When to count days in flower?

I count from flip. 2 weeks or less I see "crowns". Who knows. I watch the bud formation and the trichs. And I'll snip a Bud to test. After a couple days it will vape nicely for a test smoke.

I think counting days is kinda pointless. Seems to cause a lot of impatience and anxiety among growers. I let the plant tell me when its done weather 52 days or 83 days, its made this hobby more enjoyable and the end result better the less I paid attention to and tinkered with shit. I might have a touch of ADD so your results may vary. :bigjoint:

I not the day I flip to 12/12 as I grow different strains that show pistols at different times after the flip. However, I haven't really counted days per say because everything I have read has said that breeder estimates are usually off. Once I start questioning whether the plant is ready to harvest or not is going to be when I personally start checking trichomes, and then will probably check them every 5-7 days depending on first view. Granted I am a first time grower, but the issues I see is usually, especially with new growers like myself, is that we get too impatient and chop early. Haven't heard of too many that waited too long to chop usually, so when I think they are read I'll check trichs as there is no other way to know for sure.

1 Wait until your Calyxes swell up big time. I'm talking about when they fatten up and you're like holy shit. I'm glad I didn't chop this like I wanted to a week ago.
2 Pistils recede. You'll notice there's little to no new pistil production at all. Your plant has pretty much accepted her fate as being a crazy cat lady and all alone.
3 NOW start checking your sugar. They should be damn close.

Count from first formation of flowers. That could be a week or two after flip, conditions and strain dependent. A mature plant will usually kick into flower quicker than one from seed forced into 12/12.
Its really not about days or weeks though as the others have said. Its about watching your plant and as Monkeygrinder said, the Calyxes will swell or fill out, become nice and dence, Pistols shrink back and trichs change from clear to cloudy to amber. Depends on what you like ass far as those go. If it goes too long you can literally see the amber shine with your own eyes. Get a good trich scope, or even a cheap on. They look amazing when you look close up.
Commercial growers (not in the usa) love the seedbanks time scales because they just don't care about the quality, they arnt gona dry it properly anyway so why would they care, its about the money for them.
Look at what you guys n girls are doing in America these days.. Its amazing how far standards have come since the laws have changed. Leaders in the market especially in quality. One day I hope my country can go the same way.

I've been doing this for over 40 years - Why do you need to count? Just watch for them to be done!
They ALWAYS run about 1-2 weeks longer then breeder reports list, and sometimes longer!
If it's for feeding changes (nutrients and concentrations).....Simply mark a calendar on the flip day and count the weeks!

Just so you know. NEVER (Unless you use Hesi or Canna) start "bloom" nutes at the "flip"!!!!
2 weeks you still use veg nutes!
At week 3, mix veg/bloom - 50/50 and don't start 100% bloom till week 4 at least (strain dependent).

Use Hesi or Canna brand nutes? Follow THEIR feed charts! The way they feed is formulated FOR cannabis......Pushing but ok..

The only reason you would need to count is for your own reference later so you can manage things like perpetual grows, grouping similar finishers together or planning your next veg round based on when the flowering round will finish.

Other than that it's pointless. Breeder times vary all over the place, phenos of the same batch of seeds can finish 2 weeks apart. If you want to know for reference just pick a date. I track everything so it's just another reference point for my perpetual grows, I just record the date I flipped them to 12/12 for that it's easy. The plants will finish when they're ready and no breeder's finishing time will ever be on the money, it's just a reference.
