When Should I Switch From Veg To Flower

Hello, i like to start off with that i am a first time grower. So far i believe that i have everything i need and done for the most part correctly with my 2 plant. Originally i got these 2 clones from a friend on April 19th (1st picture) and it is now May 19th(2nd & 3rd picture) 30 days later. i am just curious since they are clones should i begin flowering them now considering they grow 25-50% of their height during the flowering stage or let them veg another 30 days. FYI In the pictures attached they are being held down with training wire to even the canopy out.

The equipment i am using is a 42x42x80 grow tent, 4in inline duct viziosun fan and carbon filter, 600w viparspectra light, 1 osculating fan and 2 clip on fans, a small walmart humidifier and a co2 canister for the flowering faze.

They look great. In theory you can veg them indefinitely, it’s up to you when you would like to trigger the flower phase and the only consideration really is if the plant is healthy (got to be in shape for show time) and is it big enough. If you’re happy the plant is healthy and the plant is a decent size then you’re ready to flip.

size of the plant is important for yield but you also want to make sure she has a strong root structure which is particularly important to consider with clones as they can be deceptively big for their root structure and don’t have a main root that they get from seed.

Thank you so much for the reply and input. I was just very uncertain as to if the plant was at the correct stage/height to switch over. from what ive seen online, my plants branches are quite thin compared to what ive seen. But they are clone so im unsure if that has a factor to the growth rate/size.

What strain is it? Sativas stretch like crazy, indicas not as much. Your limiting factor though is your light. The Vipar 600 draws about 260 watts. That enough light for maybe 6 square feet. so you could flip soon and keep them tucked under the light you should be ok. Or you could keep training them, maybe get a scrog net, and definitely more light And fill the tent.

I am unaware of what the strain is, i purchased them from a co worker and he was unaware of what was what.
So pretty much what youre saying is due to my light and size of my tent i should probably lower the light, set up a net and begin flowering soon? My light is currently 26in away from the canopy.

Just figure you have about 6 sq feet under the light that will produce. So say 2 x 3’. so you might be ok flipping now without a net. IDK. It’s hard to judge size from the pics. The only reference is the bags but IDK the size. 2, 3, 5, 10 gallon.

Gotcha, they are sitting in 7 gallon fabric pots and the plants themselves are are about 15in tall from soil to top of canopy.

Those are small. Probably barely mature enough flower properly. You also have them in 7 gallon pots so I doubt the root systems even developed yet. It all comes down to opinion I geuss. I vegged these for 2 months and pic is right before i flipped them in first pic.in the second pic I vegged those for about 3 months and that's what they looked like before I flipped them. Those are 5 gallon pots. Let them mature and you will be much happier. Next time if you want smaller plants I suggest using smaller pots so root systems develop faster

I defiantly want them to be much larger without a doubt, i just didnt know if the size would increase by switch to flower is all. thank you for the reply and advice, much appreciated.

Large plants I have grew 16 inches after flip and both are indicas. Even have a pure sativa in large tent and it's only 4 feet tall. It did double in size because it was just over 2 feet at flip. Indicas will grow short and stalky while sativas are tall and lanky. I have it tied up in so many places became all branches started to collapse under bud weight.

If you let them veg for 8 to 10 weeks you can also tell what sex they are before you start flowering and then you reduce risk of pollinating other plants with males (always hermies to worry about tho). When they are sexually mature they will also flower better. Kinda like the difference between girl and a woman. Also do yourself a favor and buy a 315 cmh with a nice bulb

good advices. i would work backwards, figure out what size you want them to be at the finish and assume they will double in height and width from the flip. so flip when 1/2 the final height you want. mileage will vary.
