When Bugs are About

Last year, we had a very easy time with leaf-eating bugs here in Texas, but that is a cyclical thing, and just might return this season....What do you recommend to deter them?
Thanks in advance from the paragon of beginners!

We call them "grasshoppers"---a smaller version of locusts...Sorry, no pics.
Is It the ones that like to hang out in cemeteries? Only place I ever saw those down south. Thought the plague was upon us... If it is those you need a flame thrower and Bible...

Honestly though: "Romalea guttata" is that the one.

Yeah that's the one..
"the grasshopper is widely known by the name "diablo" or "black diablo". In Louisiana, they are known as the "Devil's horse" or "cheval-diable". The insect is also colloquially known as a "graveyard grasshopper".

use insecticide with carbaryl, bifenthrin, cyhalothrin, permethrin or esfenvalerate, being careful to follow instructions on the label. Hand picking may be more effective and tossing into soapy water.
