How long did it take for Amazon to turn a profit, again? But Jeff Bezos is one of America's 3 richest men.

Building a better electric car costs money but it has one thing nothing in the GM lineup has; a future.
better sell that Tesla stock, ttystikk.

I call BS on that video. P1000 is a mid 10sec car. How the F was it out running 8 second cars? You can hear the other cars aren't even getting on it off the line, that terminator stang shoulda pulled the front wheels if he launched it right.

I'm not denying they're fast cars, but they aren't going up against 8 second "street cars".

The only thing keeping electric vehicle going was tax credits, which are no longer available. Plus, the electric generated still comes from power plants which require coal, etc and the raw materials for the batteries are mined by children in third world countries, which is even worse than clothing and shoe manufacturing mills

IMO, the future is in hydrogen powered vehicles= fuel cells

“They all said, ‘We think the shift to electric vehicles is accelerating and we have only limited R&D money to invest and we are going to put all of it into the electric car revolution’,” Mr Robson says. “This is a colossal structural shift and it’s come at a pace that has never occurred in people’s careers before in this industry.”

Oil Industry much?

Ever heard of solar panels and wind turbines?

They're putting coal fired power plants out of business, the current administration's promises notwithstanding.

Most mining is being done by children? Dude, you watch too much TV.

The car is lightened and has improved electronics; 'stock body, stock motors, stock battery' conveniently ignores the all important power controller, which can easily make a model S an 8 sec car.

In addition, you'll notice that's not a dragstrip- it's a regular street. Much harder to get a good launch there, giving all wheel drive a big advantage.

Finally, electric motors develop 100% of their rated torque at zero rpm, making a clutch and transmission unnecessary and redundant.

I got a taste of electric motor speeds when I was into R/C car racing. I was nitro for the longest time, until I got a decent electric on trade and I put a few $$ into it like speed control and higher turn motor. Electric power is 100% right now! No clutches, no building HP just all power delivered right now. I do however enjoy the ability to pull in with a nitro, fill the tank and cruise off again without needing to stop, needing 10 battery packs or needing to charge in order to play.

I think this is a problem that can be solved, just like where all the electricity for them will come from.

From what I looked up the fastest recorded, modified, p1000 is around 10.4 in the quarter. 10.4 to 8 is a HUGE jump.

These cars were racing 1/8 mile....hardtop beat a tesla at 0-60...or 0-100. Street drags are rarely 1/4 miles...

Tesla Gigafactory 100% off grid. There are no electric or gas lines running here. Tesla batteries are made with 100% renewable energy...

Lithium mine in Nevada.....

I saw a proposed Mercedes electric and hydrogen hybrid SUV supposedly coming out in late 2018. BMW has been running 7 series hydrogen cars for quite a while.

Dude do your homework https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/business/batteries/congo-cobalt-mining-for-lithium-ion-battery/

The world’s soaring demand for cobalt is at times met by workers, including children, who labor in harsh and dangerous conditions. An estimated 100,000 cobalt miners in Congo use hand tools to dig hundreds of feet underground with little oversight and few safety measures, according to workers, government officials and evidence found by The Washington Post during visits to remote mines. Deaths and injuries are common. And the mining activity exposes local communities to levels of toxic metals that appear to be linked to ailments that include breathing problems and birth defects, health officials say.

It is going on.

There is supposedly a new graphene battery technology that I think U of Texas has developed and Hendrik Fisker is looking into it. Fisker was the Tesla competitor. Oddly, Bob Lutz bought up the rights and they dropped V-8s into the Fisker bodies.

The same kind of crap goes on with Foxconn and Apple where the young Chinese workers work insane hours to keep up with iPhone demand. It is kind of sickening when people who are supposedly are socially responsible support a company who engages in crap like this and offshores much of their hundreds of billions in cash in a tax haven aka Nevada. Apple is viewed as Mother Theresa but they are far from that.

Ditto - Bono and U2 moralizing when they are the richest people in Ireland and they avoid paying any taxes. U2 is also a global mega corporation shill. It makes me respect Pink Floyd even more. Though post-Waters PF did have VW sponsor one of their tours but they were cars guys.

I am not a Tesla and Elon basher but he is getting hit with discrimination stuff from line workers plus also union busting activities. Their factory, as far as I know, is the old Nummi factory that was the Toyota/GM factory their shared that was unionized. Toyota finally threw their hands up and said they could not make any money in the Nor Cal and with a unionized plant.

NUMMI couldn't make money because those who follow the rules these days are at a competitive disadvantage to those who don't but aren't held accountable.

This goes far beyond the car industry.
