what would be better?

On another note, I can tell you that once I air cooled my light I was able to keep it 6" from the canopy as opposed to 16" with the bat wing reflector. I also went with remote magnetic ballast as opposed to digital. After 4 years of use (and I bought it used) the ballast failed. It cost me $47.00 to replace the condenser and igniter and I was back in business 2 hours later. When the digitals fail you have to replace the whole ballast. Just trying to keep you from a problem down the road.

yah, four hundred watts is four hundred watts, regardless if your running cfl or hps or led, and the energy usage to run either will cost the same as your using the same amount of watts.. the way your electric company charges you is kw/hour.. so if your using 4oo watts. that would be .4kws/ hour.. and say your electirc company charges your $.15/ hour. you therefore multiply your .4 kws x your price per unit, in this example case, $.15, you are therefore paying $.60 an hour for four hundred watts of power, wheter it be hps, cfl or a hairdryer..
hope that helps you out some..
That's some of the worst math I have ever seen. Off by a factor of 10. It would be $.06 per hour. Weed and math don't mix.

Buy an aircooled 400 and use it combined with the CFLs. Better spectrum+Light intensity= more bud. Even a 400W by itself is more intense than the CFLs.
A 200 CFM fan should cool the light rather well.
A good rule for cooling the box: figure out the cubic foot measurement and size the exhaust fan for 2-3 air exchanges per minute. Also, trying to cool the light and exhaust heat on the same fan circuit is inefficient at best. Two fans is the way to go.
Hope this helps

you might want to get another fan then, i forgot to show you the link to what ive got.
I chose(and advice you do too) to get the high output bulb option(only $4 more dollars)and the euro reflector option.

or you could spend a bit more and get this- http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47981
is smell going to be an issue for you? you might need to make or buy a carbon filter setup.
Id use metal ones, most likely it would not melt or start a fire but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

The combination of sucking the air through the carbon filter and then out though the hood might be too much for that fan but i think you could make it work for you.
