"A company made up of a few dozen people just got permission from a collection of federal agencies to try to land on the moon.

If they succeed, they'll follow the only three entities — the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China — to touch down on the moon. The trip would take them 10 times fartherfrom Earth than any commercial company has gone before.

Moon Express' rover is planned to weigh about 20 pounds and be about the size of a coffee table. Once it lands on the moon, it will turn its engine back on to hop around the surface.

The lander will have scientific instruments on board, including a lunar laser that will replace the longest-running Apollo experiment, which sends laser beams to Earth to measure principles of general relativity. Moon Express is also building an internet-run telescope and is hoping NASA will entrust them with a payload.

But the company's end goal is focused on more commercial goals, like mining for metals, fuels, and moon rocks. They're also offering to bring people's ashes to space."

You need permission to land on the moon??? Government isnt out of control or anything.... FFS!!
What i find disturbing is them granting mining rights. I was not even aware we could grant mining rights for the moon... does america own the moon?

It's not just the United States you need permission from dipshit.

And the reason why you need permission is because you are launching an unknown object into and out of orbit. The unknown thing needs to be heavy regulated as to not completely fuck everything up for everyone, by taking out a satellite or two or three on the way up.

Jesus fuck you are so fucking stupid.

Mr. Kahn didnt sacrifice shit. His son sacrificed his life for America. His son should be honored.

Mr. Kahn does not like Obama's immigration policy and he falsely accused Trump of wanting to deport him which is false on it's face. Trump was talking about illegal immigrants, not legal US citizens.
You have no idea what Mr Kahn was saying or what he has done. You are repeating the same tired bullshit seen on Fox News and Alex Jones.

Jesus fuck you are so fucking stupid.

I was hoping we were developing a platform of respect to have a conversation. I dont know what ethnicity you are and personally I dont care.

Liberals keep demanding we have a conversation about race and the moment it starts they shout down the other side calling them racist and then wonder why progress isnt being made.

I thought you were trying but it is all bullshit. No sympathy needed, I didnt lose anything. Just am not going to try with you anymore either.

Good job!!
What are you talking about, "liberals are demanding WE have a conversation about race". Umm, no. This liberal knows better than to have a conversation with the entrenched views of racists. What purpose could possibly be accomplished with somebody like David Duke who has been proclaiming for years that "there is massive racist and racial discrimination against European Americans" including by Hollywood entertainment. Because Jews from Europe are "not European Americans, they are from the Middle East" Thereby dismissing about 900 years of residence and the role Jewish people had on European history.

You hold your own racist beliefs so tightly that there is no point in discussion. The dialogue I want to have regarding racism is with people who are open to discussion. I'm a white person, born in the white suburbs and appreciate dialogue with people born in other places, situations and in families that directly experience the effects of racism. I admit that my background did not expose me to everything they experience and it helps me understand both myself, my own bias, and the issues of the past and present.

Racism is about closing doors and keeping them shut. Why would I want to shout through the door to somebody that won't listen?

I did, thank you, it was very cathartic...:cry::cry:.. ::sniff::

It's good to know you care :) it really helps.

but also, just in case... no, I don't care that much, but it is an issue, and let's say if this forum did mean a lot to me (I'm sure it does for some) or I was involved, I'd hate to see that being how RIU does things, on a personal level. It's not even unprofessional, it's rude, and free forum/volunteers or not, there's generally standards of behavior of members and mods alike.

Let's say a live free convention staffed by volunteers... would you want to hang out get cursed at by the staff? Or watching them do it to others, even if they were nutters? I'd rather not... I'd rather they just get them out and ban them, if it's like that. Why flame?

I think we all know that sort of behavior, and the environment that fosters it, is what leads to forums being crap, and then useless... this place is, i nothing else, a pretty good source or good community based info and support. I like that, and rather have it be better, not worse.
This is a free flowing fairly wild forum where some important issues of the day are debated in ways that would never happen in person. I think the point is arrived at a lot more quickly here than in, say, a forum moderated by Economist Magazine. Its my guess they might have more educated and intelligent discussion but it would also miss the point in that some issues are almost purely driven by emotion. How does one speak objectively and impassionately about how they feel? Do you think a Trump voter is educated, intelligent and objective? They couldn't even begin to participate in a "professional, polite and controlled forum with strict standards of behavior". They are here and I'm not nice to them but I come back because I'm interested in their viewpoint. So speak for yourself that you'd like what I can only guess is a "professional, polite and controlled forum with strict standards of behavior". Go away if that's what you want.
