what size light for a scrog grow?

I wanna try a scrog grow. I am planning things step by step. I still need to buy items. I have grown before using a 150 watt hps. I have also grown with cfls. So this time I wanna try a scrog grow. So I am thinking of 3 plants in a 48x24x60 tent or a 2 plant scrog in a 36x20x60 tent. So what type of light should I buy. I am trying to keep things small. I just grow for friends and family. Its just a hobby for me. So in the 48x24x60 tent. I was thinking maybe a 4ft x 6bulb T5 or a 250watt hps. I was thinking maybe a 2ft x 6bulb T5 for or a 250 watt hps for the 36x20x60 tent. I would love to hear your thoughts or other ideas.

I use a switchable 250/400 light for about the same size canopy u plan to use.
Run 250 during veg then switch to 400 to flower.
Make sure u get good airflow or the heat is a problem.

Well the 400 could fit in either and do a great job as long as you are venting properly you should be fine.

I'd personally go for the 600 but a dimmable 1 this way when you do add more watts (which you will we all do) all you have to do is turn a knob instead of buying another l light lol.

Hello thank you for the reply. I do understand what your saying. I think the 400 would be best for me. I am just doing this as a hobby. I am just trying to have a nice grow without paying too much on electric. Again its just a small apartment grow. I was just wanting to get some decent smoke without using CFLs again. Do you think a 400 in a 36x20x60 tent would be good enough to scrog 2 plants? Should the light be a cool tube or a air cooled hood? And just for the fun of it, would a 600 watt grow some very nice bud yield wise? I am new to bigger hps lights. So I really dont know what kind of yield someone would get with each size light.

If you can afford it get a cool tube with a 6" fan and you will be golden with either size.
2 plants is perfect if you top and train

You wont pay too much extra you say if the 400 is $20 then a 600 would be $30 to run and yes yield wise it will definitely reflect.

I'd get a digital 400 or 600W set-up that lets you switch from MH (for vegging) and HPS (for flowering). You won't have to bother either moving the plants or switching gear every time you switch from veg to flower.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Thank you for the reply. I am thinking of the 400 watt. Should I use the cooltube or air cooled hood for better coverage?

Dude i already answered that
No matter what u use you will need a 6" inline fan.
If you have the chance just buy the cooltube. Trust me that ur temperature with a small tent will be a bigger problem then light.
A 400 in a small tent is more than enough light per sq foot.
Cooling is a bitch

ok thank you. I just have had some people say the cooltube loses lumens because of the glass being round.

It does
No argument there
But you plan to use a small tent right.
If its a small tent then the lumens u lose are worth the extra temp savings.
A cooltube can also be kept closer to the canopy so u dont really lose.

I just know from my experience the heat in a small area is a much bigger problem to deal with then the loss of a few lumens
