I just recently built a hydroponics setup and i'm growing only one plant. What light would give me good results MH, CFL or fluoro tubes? And i dont want anything resulting inn a tall skinny plant. Thanks! appreciated!

Thats what i was thinking but i thought those were more for flowering because they are warmer and have a different spectrum?

Yeah, but if you are doing it one at a time. HPS is perfect. No real need for anything that eases veg, since you are giving it all to one plant.

Well the thing is i have limited height and i know you have to keep the HPS at a distance. So it might dry my buds up if its to close. I at least want my plant 41/2 to 5 feet but i only have about 6 feet and i dont know if thats enough space. I have 2 fans if that would help with the heat. Also if i buy the bulb is there a cheaper way to set it up then spending 150 for a whole setup?

in my veg chamber i use a 150hps outside converted floodlight, and ill tell ya, i often sit there wondering how cool it would be to do one plant under it, it would be cheap for you and ill tell ya, you can keep the damn light 5-6 inches away as long as you got a fan on it, it would do one plant awesome

What is scrog?
check out one of my grows and you will see.

i had one of those 150 watt light/ballast combos that a friend gave me. i wouldn't use one to grow with unless i was growing in a tiny cabinet and had no money for something else. you would end up just getting something different eventually, so you might as well by something you will keep using in the future like a 600 wattter

Awesome, thanks for the tips! :D I Also hear that vegging with hps causes the plant to strech and grow a bit slower. Have you had any of these experiences?

they will stretch anytime they are not getting the light they want. metal halide is better for veg but if you are only going to have one bulb hps would be better. i run digital ballasts so i can run either type of bulbs. they also have magnetic ballasts that arre built to run both as well. hortilux also makes bulbs that give off both light spectrums. in my opinion, other than the pretty outrageous types of lighting they are coming out with, high intensity discharge bulbs (HID) are the only way to go, but that is just my personal opinion.

Great Advice!

AND THE 150 WATT BUILT IN BALLAST....SHIT ADVICE.
ya well your a shit head. lets fight. i'll take you on right now one on one. you dont wanna fuck with me man im a gangster. i'll cut off your toes and make you eat them shit face

lol
fuck this guy. my understanding is that you wanna set up a small grow set up

a 250 to 600 is gonna cost you a lot of money to set up and to run.
if you want it to be cheap and effective for just one plant, go with a 150 hps and some cfls. it doesnt get too hot you can keep it about 6 inches to one foot from the plant without burning it and its not gonna cost you as much per month as a 250-600 watt.

but then again who am i to say. do what you please

Sounds good but what if i just get hps that has a blue spectrum, would that be good for veg and flowering? And do i need a whole fixture to set it up or can i put the bulb in the socket and hang it straight above the plant like that. Also i would have something to reflect or some cfl's.

As I see it he wants max yield without growing outside, and has limited space. The thread title says "great results"! Not average... and a 150WHPS will give an average harvest. a scrog will give you "great results", but even a 150W HPS won't penetrate it enough to give "great results" a 400, or 600 will, and at a nominal cost too! Still wanting to fight about it? Too bad. I have said enough in this thread.
Either way I hope his grow goes well, and he comes back to ask for any help needed along the way.

Hey JDUB get a quatum ballast and a cool tube set-up cost around 3bills and u can run from 300w for veg then 600w for budding and with a cool tube a fans u can get away with having it a foot above over as little as 8inches just check the heat with ur hand and if it burns ur hand its to close but u should have plenty of room with 6ft ceilings and want 4.5-5ft plant...and pull 6-8oz of a plant...JMO
