Boy are you limp wrists gonna be disappointed
Looks like you might be disappointed, I don't expect to be and the evidence supports this. Donald is nervous for a reason and the republicans are running from him like he has the plague, cause he does. Trump is in trouble in Texas FFS, red states are battleground states, wake up and smell the coffee.

Election night party thread here on RIU, hopefully tunes will be permitted on a dedicated thread in politics for such a special occasion! @Jimdamick will no doubt have a Trump is fucked party thread or something! :D I'd like to see Americans remove the chain from their necks, the burden from their backs and the pain from their asses!

Where do I send the get well soon card?
The Irish are noted for they're wakes, celebrating the life/legacy of the deceased, & drowning their sorrow in alcohol.
There will be no such celebration in my household this November 3 when Trump loses, I'm fucking drained.
I will sigh with relief, but actually there is nothing at all to glow about or too rejoice.
Too little, too late
The damage is already fucking done, no room left for any real consolation or room left for joy.
Too many dead
This is a old Irish tune that I will play though when Trump is finally set aside.
It is a beautiful/sad tune about futility/grief/hardship/injustice, fitting in my mind for that legacy of Trump that will forever be a part of America's history now.

They celebrate the end of every war James, the harder the struggle and greater the sacrifice, the harder they party. It's a celebration of hope for the future, as well as relief from fear. This election is a cold civil war James, a fork in the road for America, one way leads to utopia and the other to Hell, the road sign is clearly marked.

What's the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish funeral?

One less drunk.

What's the difference between shanty Irish and lace curtain Irish?

Lace curtain Irish take the dishes out of the sink BEFORE they piss in it.

Define 'Luck of the Irish".

Stepping in a fresh pile of cow shit while wearing your bad shoes. - Just imagine if you'd been wearing your good ones!

As well, for the Constitutionalists among us (Amy Coney Barrett included) and serving as a humbling to me, a quote from Thomas Jefferson:

I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. – Letter to H. Tompkinson , 12 July 1816 (image at Library of Congress)

We should all read both the federalist and anti-federalist papers before deciding what the Founding Fathers intended.
Fuck what the founding fathers intended.

Because they intended it in the 18th century when slavery was legal and blood letting was the go to remedy if you were ill.

I remember text book history lessons in elementary school. And my dad's real life history lessons when we were riding somewhere in the car.

He considered the founding fathers to be largely a bunch of very rich tax evaders who came over on boats who were too lazy to do their own work.

And they and their off spring through the decades discriminated against everybody who wasn't a blue blood like them. And they didn't like immigrants but needed them to work in the factories and elsewhere and make this country a productive endeavor.

I don't have to go over the raping of underage slaves that can be traced through the years. By today's standards they'd all be in prison. And none of them had opinions on abortion, global warming, nuclear weapons, electricity, the internet, ridiculous conspiracy theories or much else that applies today.

They did have opinions on racism though.

And WTF is a 'more perfect union' ? Either it's perfect or it isn't.

It isn't.

I detest these SCOTUS idiots who want to look at every case through an 18th century legal view. If you can't consider the real world impact in modern times, why not just go back to walking on hot coals to figure out who's right and wrong like they did 250 years before the constitution.

I know what I did before game seven of the World Series. I drove from Ohio to Wrigley Field and commiserated - then celebrated with a few hundred thousand others.

I know what I did last election - shook my head in wonder, awe and sorrow with a dwindling group of locals.

This election night is different. There seems to be about a 25% chance that Biden can claim a legit victory on election night and about a 0% chance that Trump can - just based on the likely battleground states and how they count their mail-in ballots. So I have taken election week off. I'll spend the day as a poll watcher - or, more accurately, one who watches the watchers. Then I will spend the night with my family hoping for the future of this country.

Oh, and I have a whole bunch of fireworks - mortars, waiting for the time to express my joy that we have dodged this bullet.

So what the fuck are you doing?
Good idea. Except, your post got me thinking about an appropriate menu for a night where Democrats win.

such as:

Trump toast: Toasted carrot cake with salty caramel teardrops
Biden smoothie - Blue berry, of course
Kamala candy - chocolate kisses
Republican ragout - swamp cabbage stew
Pence Pie - Pennsylvania shoofly pie

the drink, of course would be Donkey Punch

a nibbler would be elephant ears.

And WTF is a 'more perfect union' ? Either it's perfect or it isn't.
They were products of their times and those times included the enlightenment and a healthy dose of British history, particularly the English civil wars of over a hundred years before, they knew it well. Like most men they failed to live up to their own ideals, but those with ideals were compromising with men who had none, and thus America was born with original sin in the fire of revolution. They founded a liberal democracy though, one that could evolve to include equal rights for all and responsible government. It's the dwindling segment of the population who reject forming a community with others and equal rights for all that is the issue. The more perfect union means the constitution reflects the evolving human condition and is constantly seeking social harmony, the pursuit of happiness part.

People have certain inalienable rights, the pursuit of happiness among them and if people are socially rejected from the larger community for no good reason (bigotry & racism) it causes pain and suffering instinctively. People also have a basic human right to the truth and disinformation can kill them and their families outright like with covid, or destroy their souls, to the extent they have them, like with Trumpers. It is the forces of greed, hate and fear that fuck up the more perfect union thing and impede progress, the country is polarized now and the vast majority of the assholes in America are on the losing side.

Before great change comes great trial, tribulation and sorrow, they help to drive it, along with Donald who is the cause of most of it. Cheeto Jesus has separated the sheep from the goats, there are clearly more goats than sheep. Amen.

Didn't Trump say they could do what they want because they won? They are just paying lip service to the founding fathers, just like the founding fathers gave lip service to the concept of "all men are created equal".

The Constitution empowers each generation to govern how they see fit. We don't have to follow anything other than what is written in the Constitution, which is for the most part open to interpretation. Also, it's time for some amendments. We have to stop fighting over abortion. We need to take interpretation of a person's right to make her own medical decisions out of the courts and make it the law of this land. There are a few other amendments that are needed too. Such as, putting the words "well regulated" back into the 2A and make - access to health care, education, clean air and clean water - civil rights.
