Trust me it gets old after a while. I went in after HS and stayed for a good amount of time. Definately reaping the benefits for the rest of my life now. We are doing amazing things in the middle east but unfortunately good things dont make the news...only bad things. Its a slap in the face to our young men and women that are volunteering to serve. The ones that need to be punished for their actions are dealt with swiftly and professionally. Everyone else, 99.99% are doing a fabulous job and making an everlasting impression. So if you aint been there and seen it first hand...STFU with your negative BS.

Stay motivated

You speak the truth boneman. You also said that you can get screwed over by the military which is 100% true. My friend went in last year out of high school and is deploying this year. He has 4 more years to go (He fixes planes and has a 5 year contract). At first he regretted going in but now he loves it. He likes the benefits and the guaranteed paychecks. Hell while the unemployment is 10% now he just got a fucking raise lol so he has nothing to worry about.

That being said he did say he wished he went in a little later than at 18. And it is really tough from living in NYC all your life to being in the back country of fucking north carolina lol. Personally I'd never join the military but thats because I've got it perfect right at home. If you look at your living situation its a pretty easy desicion to make. I smoke my weed, watch my tv and do good in school until I graduate. No shooting up any freedom fighters for me :hump:.

My resentment toward our government is directed at the corrupt politicians. Definitely not toward the people that serve in the military. I have a ton of respect for people willing to serve. Good luck.

At least I can count on perfect strangers for support, lol. While my family isn't against it, they aren't jumping for joy. My brother told me I won't make it through boot camp and my boyfriends father actually LAUGHED when he found out. Oh well. This frustration will serve for extra motivation and staying power- I know I'll need it.

just my personal opinion but if i was going to join any branch of the armed forces it would probably be the navy. Sure the marines are the badasses but if u join the navy worst case scenario you get stuck on a big ass boat that's more like a small city, unless your some kinda special ops or seal or somethin like that. My brother is a marine and has been lied to since day one, he's only received about half of the money he was originally supposed to. Now his wife and kid lives with me until they pay him what they're supposed to and he can move his family where he's based at. Serving is an awesome thing to do just dont expect all those things they promise to come true without going through hell to make it happen. They'll say anything it takes to get you to sign on that line.

That's the damn truth. My brother was lied to time and time again. The most miserable years of his life were in the marines (according to him) and now that he's out, he just can't get back to normal routines. It's rough to watch.

Either way, I hope things go better for you. I always admire someone willing to serve in that regard. My only advice is to REALLY think this decision over. Have you signed on already?

Be a real Marine and get kicked out for smoking pot. That's what everyone in this town seems to like doing.

Jokery aside, thank you for choosing to protect my home. Enjoy firewatch and good luck out there! Make sure to come back every tour.

People with this point of view have no clue about our world... oh well, at least there are people who do and who devote their time and their lives to protecting their country.
Yes. I do have a clue for your information.

In reality, people in the military are just pawns being used
by the corrupt government. If you can tell me why
the government isn't corrupt, I definitely want to hear it.

Sorry, but I'm not going to work for evil people.

I won't work for people who declare war on sovereign nations
looking for "weapons of mass destruction" that don't exist.

I won't work for people who invade other countries to rob them
of their resources.

I won't work for people who enslave their citizens with debt
that is impossible to pay off.

I won't work for people who hand out billions of tax dollars to incompetent
corporations when those billions could be used for education.

I won't work for people who CUT funding in education.

If you work for the military, you're standing behind everything they
do because, after all, you are working for them. (unless you joined for other personal reasons)

I don't mean to sound rude Socata, but I won't put my life on the
line for a country who is responsible for the things I listed.

I'm not bashing anyone else for going to the military, I'm just stating
I would never do it. I have my reasons for being against them, just

as you have yours for being with them.

As far as I know, America is the most powerful nation in the world.
And if this is true, what are we being protected from?

The missiles from N. Korea that can't even navigate?

Exactly. 100% agree with you.

I know many people join to help with finances,
and they don't agree with everything that the politicians

and other corrupt government officials do. But hey, its a stable
income and a place to lay their heads at night, and income

for their families back home. Totally not against providing for your
family, I just don't like what our governments stands for, which

is why I wouldn't ever work for them.

Congratulations and good luck. People like PurpleKitty will continue enjoying their freedom because of courageous citizens like you. If it were not for people like you, we'd have to learn Chinese...lol.

Just because I have my reasons for not wanting to work
for the government doesn't mean I'm bashing everyone

else who does.

If you read my post you would have seen I already said what
I just told you. Here, I will help you look.
