Depends on how much ash he put in.. but, yeah.. Test that runoff.

Just FYI, the natural pH of rain is 5.7; a little low for MJ in pots. In nature, there's usually a huge buffering capacity in the soil that makes this minor acidity irrelevant. But, run this water time and again through the limited environment of a pot, add acidic nutes (they all are..), and you're on a road to trouble. Distilled is always good, tho..

By all appearances, I'm down to my last week. It's been 9 weeks post 12/12; 8 weeks of real flowering.

As I reported a few pages back, I burned the shit out of these babes about 4 weeks ago.. adding unneeded full-strength nutes and dive-bombing my pH (what an idiot). Fortunately, they pulled out of it with flushing and working some lime into the pots. They've been on water ever since.

I ended up with three distinct phenos out of the same bagseed -- two plants that are maturing ahead of the others, and very sugary (first 2 pics), one monster that's a foot taller than the others but with a huge central cola (24"x6" round, and still growing - 3rd pic), and one "Christmas tree" type that is slowest to mature, almost no sugar on the leaves (but plenty in the buds - in background of 3rd pic).

True to newbie form, I couldn't resist a little early harvest and pulled down a couple of side branches this weekend. Quick-dried a little sample ... very nice. Smoked great even green, and three hits puts you in the sweet spot. Not crazy-good, but pretty damn satisfying for my first grow.:hump:

Trichs are about 40/60 clear/cloudy right now, with occasional ambers. I think next weekend is "the time".

Wow.. I can't believe I'm pullin' down my own weed, folks... how fuckin' satisfying.

These are under 400W -- I vegged 4 weeks under MH, then went HPS for flowering.

I way overdid it on the nutes.. I probably didn't need to add anything at all. But hey, live and learn... that's in the past.

Yeah, that "care of others" is a bitch. I had to leave my plants to my wife once for a trip -- all she had to do was water. Well, I came back and those suckers were swimming, and the humidity in the room was about 98% from the babes trying to pipe all that water off. She said she made an "executive decision" cause they "looked dry". They were big enough to take it, no harm done, but geez... had they been seedlings, they would've been done right there.

That's it in a nutshell.. if you're using MG pre-ferted soil, don't ADD ANYTHING UNLESS THE PLANTS ASK FOR IT!

I learned the hard way. Fortunately, MJ is smarter than I am in the long run.

I am glad I read this shit....I just go some Miracle Grow Organic Choice and I had no idea it needs to be watered so cautiously.
The Organic Choice probably releases nutes a little more slowly... but watering lightly during early growth is good general practice anyway. If we all had a nickel for every pic of overwatered plants on RIU...

I did not read all this, as flame wars make me "irie". For the record, though, I'm using MG Organic Choice because it was readily available. When I have more space, I'll compost and all that good stuff, but for now, MG is what I can find and it's been working really well. Since I have seedlings, I have not overwatered yet. Underwatering has happened once, but that's about it.

Cool beans... I'm going organic next time around myself. I want to compare methods and experiment. I find this whole growing world very exciting -- last thing I'd want to do is get tracked into one routine. But yeah.. MG stuff works great and as I pointed out in a long diatribe a few pages back, there's nothing "low impact" about doing organic-anything...

I think the most challenging thing about using MG soils is accepting the fact that you don't have to do a damn thing except water properly. Especially for first-time grows ... we're impatient; we want to "do something for our plants". But it's not necessary or desired (by the plant, that is..).

Well, Scientology is a federally recognized religion, therefore I guess it was only a matter of time before MG growers came out of the closet.

I wont even lie, I've used MG organic choice potting mix on a number of occasions, and though it was acceptable for seedlings, I found that Lambert's sterile potting mix was much less susceptible to pests and fungi and provided a higher quality grow medium than did MG.

nice pics man.... what type of flouros and cfl do you use
im using currently using two T12 GE Plant & Aquarium Flouros, one cool white 20W clf, and one 23W clf.

im currently 4 weeks into flowering and they have finally stopped growing (just in time, i had about an inch or two left of grow space.....

sorry to hear about your grow. if its at all possible i think you should try and salvage it, work on your crisis recovery skills ya know?

anyway, heres a pic update. keep posted on what you decide to do with your grow (keep it or junk it), im interested to see how it turns out if you keep it.
