Shit I'm 30 and have to ask my parents for money occasionally. they don't mind helping because I work 50+ hour weeks and make good money but get raped by insurance and healthcare because my wife is stage 3 bordering stage 4 kidney disease and our son is autistic. Between my weekly insurance payments and our out of pocket maximum which I hit every year I'm out about 20k a year to medical costs(and I have blue cross, God forbid I still had HAP).
Theres a difference between helping and hurting someone, my parents taught me a lot about not only working hard but working smart. And when I have a good harvest and can afford it I try to do nice things for them, like getting their hoop houses installed for next spring, and offering as much knowledge as I can about organic farming as they've retired and started a 10 acre organic farm with some beehives. They're going to have some nice tomatoes and I'm going to have a go at outdoor in some 50 or 100 gallon pots of supersoil next year. especially if my new worm bin takes off over the winter, id like to try some cover crops and throwing a hundred or so worms in every pot.
Also OP, your kid is an asshat. How was the harvest?
