I would bet you can find something you like from the new stuff, because there are so many options. You could grow some of the old school sativas and see what you think. Try some skunks, or diesel strains, or some landrace genetics. I haven't grown them but Mandala seeds is supposed to have some awesome landrace crosses.

Sounds like my story. I grew up in small town Midwest . Im 40. I smoked nothing but mexican brick from about 95 until probably 2005. Couldn't get anything else around there. Still hard to find anything good.

Love this Post,what you smoking on.It took some getting used too,to be honest.Not keen on Sativas,i like indicas.But Sativas make great oil and hash.Are you growing or just smoking brother.I agree its not the same,and i think its one of the only things that has changed in a big way that i am happy with,the quality now is just super high grade.In all Honesty i think there is more strength in a 8th over a oz of that old brick week.But back in the days when i first started i smoked Hash red and gold seal along with the slate and soap bar.I was never that keen on soap bar though.But loved the other hash from back then.Funny enough i'm smoking hash that is very much like that old gold seal from years ago,But its far stronger,but taste is same just far more sticky.Never really enjoyed the weed from back then,apart from the odd time we got thai weed.But that was full of seed,i love a few of those seeds now though just to see what i could do with it.You also have to take into account when we was younger we was smoking with friends,having a good chuckle,I aint had one of those laughing fits you used to have sometimes when we smoked for years.Most of the time i smoking it with wife,or when family come who smoke.But i smoke now for pain and other medical problems i have,and it really does help.But my wife just does not get high,I can smoke half a joint so a gram and i feel it ,she smokes a full one and the only thing it does is she sleeps,that's it.But not one tablet doctor gave her,makes her sleep like she does when she has had a smoke.Its the only thing that numbs the pain.
Go with some of the old lines,Like Skunk # 1,Northern Lights,Ak47 ,Big bud ,Afganica # 1 ,these seem to be better for those that miss those old school flavors.But to be honest i would seek out good quality soft black,its what i smoke.Same taste has the old stuff,But just far stronger love it.I know the dude who is getting it fresh of the block,so getting it for a nice price.I do smoke bud at night though,just love a change.But through day i smoke this.This Melts like wax.Full of flavor that peper kinda old school smell.I'm loving all this New stuff the wedding cake and El chapo,Strawberry Sorbet ,i like them all.
