Based on these photos, how was my grow?

In retrospect, I think I should have let the middle of the canopy grow/stretch a bit taller in Veg in order to get more colas like that big huge one seen there.

(FYI I am using peat/vermiculite as discussed here).

I am very happy with the quality on this run, but would have liked to get bigger quantity of nuggage.

What did you guys feel indicated about it being too early?

Some of these photos may have been from some previous days before I chopped.

I did chop after 10 weeks/70 days of flowering, when 90% of pistils were red, there was some amber trichomes and foxtailing. Cloudy trichomes not clear. I thought I was roughly on time. And really didnt want to wait more than 10 weeks since I wished to move on to new genetics.

From what I can see there is still a lot of white, stretched out pistils. That's always sign #1. 66bb230ab9c4d9e4703ec8626dc91b13.jpg

Non of those 10 pics look ready enough for my liking.

pistils need To recede and not just change colour.

It is easy to find amber and cloudy trichomes throughout flower. Checking trich's isnt that helpful till the plant has obviously ripened.

I am sure the bud will be fine, you just could have had more if you waited
 
Thank you all for sharing your advice and experience.

Well I didn't have patience to wait for 11-12 weeks to flower this hybrid, I harvested at 70 days.

I'm seeing a bit of silver lining in not having let them keep going because all the biggest, chunkiest and fattest colas had a tiny bit of bud rot at their cores, in the early stages, so that it was only like 3% (but still a pain and something to avoid like the plague). Im not sure when it developed but I suppose it was from when the plant was going at full-power in 29 degrees Celcius in flower, since I run CO2.

I ended up with about 1.4 grams per watt so I am very happy with the yield of 560 grams of Grade A in this 4x4 with 445 watts of quantum boards.

Since I was running Co2 I kept the flower temps high at 29 degrees C and thus also had difficulty keeping the RH down which would fluctuate between 50 and 70 despite having a 200 watt dehumidifier in this small space.

Only when I hit the last few weeks, did I really lower the temps more and more, gradually, which I guess (as it appears from the autopsy) really helped halt any additional spread of the rot which only appeared like a but of powder mildew in the thick bud core superficial inner surface.

For the future, to avoid that rotting 3%, what should I do better; such as which (or all) of the following?
  • Lower temps (thus RH) earlier (despite running CO2)? [HOW TO BALANCE THIS?]
  • Focus on more and smaller, symmetrical tops by more topping, instead of having some of those big-ass colas, prone to rot
  • Choose strains which finish quicker? (I am soon to flip Runtz and Gorilla Glue however, first time with those fun strains...)
  • Lower the lux/light wattage to avoid possibilities of bleaching that can lead to the core bud rot -- too much light in this small space!
  • One oscillating fan and a stationary fan is not enough, replace stationary fan with oscillating fan under canopy
  • Less fertigation to avoid humidity build up
  • Remove undergrowth better to reduce humidity

    Any other advice please?

That’s 6 days drying time.

I fear your 1.4gpw might lower once they actually dry.

6 days is too quick to dry.

Rot can be a horrible thing to deal with.

Steady humidity is one thing that a lot of good growers have sworn by. That isn't an easy thing to do, especially at lights off, as you need to make sure temps do not drop too much or too fast.

Also is a lot of airflow, both under canopy and above canopy. It looks like you only have one small clip fan. It may be better to get a small oscillating fan that can hit the space. Strains with big buds also tend to be more prone to rot, but not exclusively. Make sure you clean out the space between grows, with light bleach, as mold will grow in corners and so over time.

I am currently using blumats and they got bigger than I anticipated, an uneven canopy. This has messed with air circulation, so I am expecting to get some issues because of that. It's one of those things.

Climate may not help either. Some people just let shit do what ever and never get any issues. You can look into mold filters, but I am not so sure how effective they truly are.

I stopped watering 2-3 days before I cut them, so they started to dry out while still in the pots. This really helped me retain terpenes I think.

You are right however, it was still a bit too fast when drying at 60 degrees 60 RH. Yes even last night they were still a bit too moist in some jars with RH at 70.. True the weight is going down a bit, but only by a few percent or 10-15 grams at most. The gram per watt was around 1.3 at worst or 1.5 at best. (Depending if you count the popcorn which was like 25 grams).
