When I say centimeter range, I mean around 100 centimeters up to 300cm (about a foot), close enough for government work and to locate a mine! Depending on if they are using encrypted military grade GPS, but even regular commercial GPS has improved accuracy with a dozen or more satellites being received by most systems these days.

the article I posted? The Russians have defeated that method by stacking pairs of mines. The resulting shock damages the vehicle bearing the blade or flail.

I would reallyreally not want to be tasked with exhuming active antiarmor mines.
Someone has to do it and they probably put a small, prepared charge light the fuse and back off. My point is we have the technology to know where the mines are if previous surveillance work was done while they were buried of just after and they can be accurately located using that data. They could have a cellphone app that would act like it had xray vision just point the camera at the field and every mine previously located shows up in the screen superimposed over the camera landscape. Not as farfetched or far off as you might think.

That’s still the difference between shooting the mines and requiring a good-sized bomb per mine. Price just went way up.
Not if the sapper knows roughly where they are, finds them with conventional equipment and uncovers them, if there is a risk in deactivating then use a few grams of plastic and a detonator to destroy them, I imagine some mines are booby trapped.

As they get through the mine fields they become fewer until they can break out into open ground and use their advantages in tactics and maneuver. As for Russian artillery laid mines, it appears to be suicide every time they fire their guns trying to kill Ukrainian troops clearing them or shooting at vehicles using those cleared paths. The counter battery radars and 155mm artillery is accurate at range and out ranges the Russian stuff. The FPV and other cheap drones are saving them a lot of ammo and destroying billions in Russian equipment and stressing out the Russians on the front. With enough drones, they can have enough left in the tank to exploit their breakthrough to open ground. They should also have enough old fart reservists in the rear to hold what they gain, so the regular army can keep going.

Are the Russians retreating through their own mine fields? Think the Ukrainians will give them a chance to plant any and the drones miles ahead of their advance will see and attack anybody laying mines. Besides once they get so far in, they can go in any direction and bypass any mine fields. The objective is to cut the Russians in half and there is a lot of ground they can use to get to the coast or have fire control to it. They don't need to take any cities, just cut the road and rail links from east to west and destroy the Kerch bridge. Everybody to the west of them in southern Ukraine will be fucked, trapped and cut off and so will Crimea. Push them into Crimea and whatever is there is trapped there. If they control the coast of the Sea of Azov, then even getting troops off Crimea will be hard.

And the ending of the story, "Ukraine needs to have enough ammunition, equipment and manpower if and when they break through. If they do not or the weather changes before they break through and the fields get soaked then Russia can start the process all over again.

Fall rains might put an end to it, but I think the ground is sandy in many places there which would help a lot with wet weather. Like I said with enough FPV drones they can save a lot of ammo for their drive. There is a reason the allied aid is pouring in, plans among the allies have been made months ago and arrangements made. Biden or the other EU allies are not gonna let this operation fail, if the Ukrainians can do the job efficiently, if they fight like Russians no power on earth can save them!

a few grams? Like five thousand? Sappers are valuable, slow to train and dying like flies. The idea of digging the mines out is ill-considered.

They are only gonna clear a path or paths through the mines for now and sapping is a dangerous job, so they systematically reduce the risks. After the war is over and moves on is then the real work of mine clearance begins in the combat areas, and they will need all the help they can get and all the tech they can employ. All the more reason to have as many as you can plotted as accurately as you can and entered into a GIS system for later use by civilian mine clearance and to fence off areas and put in signage until you can clear it. Like I said cities, states and governments have been using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for decades and they have gotten more precise over time with GPS improvements, today it is not uncommon for new cheap GPS systems to use multiple GPS satellite systems and have a dozen or more satellites providing location data, enhancing accuracy of commercial GPS. GIS and GPS are old mature technologies.
