Walmart 24" "grow light" floros

Are these any different than the regular floros they sell right next to them?

I have four of these over my two plants now and wondered if they require a different replacement bulb.

THANKS ALL!

you should of gotten cfls, they work much better than tube fluoros

Hmmmm......How many should I use for two plants? They are both about 12" tall right now and I just dropped them down to 12/12. I cant afford the expensive lighting right now and this is my first grow.

I have them in a box painted flat white right now as a stealth closet grow, if that makes any difference.

BTW: I love your avatar......Do you have a high res. version?:hump:

12" high? For how long have you been growing them? Any pics?

I started with the exact same lights (5 of them) and switched to 10 26w CFLs. If you do not, they will stretch really bad, if they have not already. At least this is the experience I had with these lights.

Wal-Mart sells 6500k CFLs @ 26w which will serve you very well. 4 of them will serve you much better than the 4 your have. You can get cheap clip on sockets which have a reflector. Surround them with these 4 lights and you will see a huge improvement.

The next issue you are going to face is flowering. Both of these lights re the wrong color for flowering and way to little light.

Unfortunately, I dont have any pics. One of them isnt very full and I suspect it is a male, the other is for sure female and has some fullness to her.

I am on a florescent lighting budget right now, i thought I could flower them in this lighting but it just isnt quite as efficient. If I cant flower them with floros I'll just throw them back on 18/6. Is there any other lighting that would work better for the flowering stage other than an expensive MH or HPS?

Thanks again for all your replies, Shes my first grow and I want to show off some good bud pics here in a couple months!bongsmilie

Agree. For your 2 plants, try to get some CFLs. The highest I've seen at Wal-mart are 42w, which push out like 2700 lumens each. For flowering, use the 2700k spectrum (red/orange) bulbs. 6500k spectrum (blue) for vegging.

Then plop those suckers 1-2" from your plants.

They should be different unless you are getting ripped off. I use the cheap floros for vegging, but I use the expensive light for flowering. If you want good results you need the money lights.

SERIOUSLY? And that's for one with a reflector? Is it possible to put a y-socket on the one your using to make it have two bulbs?

I figured they would be like $20 seeing that's about what I bought my lizard light fixture for.

Thanx man, Hit me back

Peace

yes, its comes with standerd buld fiscture with reflector bowl and like 8ft cord with switch. Im sure you could prabably use a y socket but i wouldent recommend it. I also check out the 2700 big CFL's. they run $9 each, the biggest ive seen as wally world, Id say couple of those and couple fictures; youd be pretty good for veg starting of ur plants.

But defentl try and look at soduim based bulbs for flowering. 20 bucks for buld at home depot, and get a porcilan socket and make your own cable/plug into ur timer/wall socket (w/e you have set up). and bam proly no more than 30 bucks for a good flowering lighting... well im hittin the sack man...

The clip on sockets with hoods can be found at HD or Lowes and run about $5. I use them when I want even more side lighting. (I already use 2 HPS and 5 42w CLF fro side) I like side lighting. :D

OK.....So I purchased 2 2700K CFL floods that put out 1250 lum. each and hung them over my female and am throwing out the male.

I think 2500 lum. should be sufficient for one plant in a small box.

Major_toke took one all the way through with CFLs. I know others have too. I had planned to do the same, but found a great deal on some HPS lighting and switched to it for flowering.

If I remember right, he had 4 2700K CFLs for flowering.

I learned a lesson which I think is critical. Your extending a significant risk to your life to grow 1 female plant, so in the end you can have something to smoke. Your not going to do this for a day or even a month, but for 4 months or more. Would it not suck to go through all of this, spend as much as you would on something to smoke only to end up with something which is not as good as you would buy.

IMHO, if you can not afford to spend a little on lighting, good nutes, and good soil, spend the money on a nice bag and chill, or at least except that your not going to produce anything amazing. Maybe just a high maintenance house plant which some day you will smoke.

Not trying to be a downer, just trying to place it in perspective.

I here ya,...........but also try to understand that im a newb with his frst plant growing. Thats why I am, here to learn from experienced individuals like yourself...you were a newb once too.

This is a stealth grow in my closet for the time being and dont think it is absolutly necessary to spend a ton of cash on an elaborate system, when I can keep it simple and have good results.

I am learning alot on my first grow and feel better about experimenting on this one that way I dont mess up a whole crop. I have many seeds once I get going and am confident in my grow methods, and if this female gives me a good high I will plan on cloning her.

So, small grow in a closet on a budget. Here is what I would recommend:

Buy 4 26w 6500k CFLs. Install them into a clip on light with a reflector. Surround the plant. You know you have a female, right?

When your ready to flower replace the 6500k with 4 new 42w 2700K CFLs. Take her through harvest with these.

If your going to use MG soil, at least put some more perlite in the soil for better rot health. MG hold water pretty bad. Not a good thing for weed. A small bag of perlite will set you back $5. It will be well worth it.

have fun and enjoy. Be prepared. Pot is not addictive, but growing is. :D

could you explain this a little better I was under the impression sodium lighting was very expensive 30 bucks? for a decent flowering light I have been using strictly fluoros and would like to improve my yield the fluoros do alright ... but i want to try something different
thanks
