Viable seeds on my plant?

Was someone can share some knowledge with me. I've been growing regs outdoor for about a decade now. In that time I've found less than a dozen seeds when I clean them at harvest.

I growing some autos this year along with my regs to enjoy a double harvest. First time with the autos.

I'm ready to harvest them in the next few days and I noticed about a week ago that one of the plants has some seeds growing on a few of the buds.

I was actually delighted to see this. The beans are still green. Are they viable as stock for next year? Should I hold off another 7-10 days before harvesting this plant to let the seed mature? Do they need to be brown and last but not least if they are viable will they be feminized auto seeds?

I still have a ton to learn on these plants. Any insight would be appreciated.

Often times you need to wait till the plant is overripe for harvest to get good seeds. In my experience with my seeds crops the bud is too far into amber or even decaying to smoke. I toss it after screening the seeds.

This is not always the case but depends on when you pollinated. If you intentionally pollinated early you can get seeds and smoke able weed but you didn’t intentionally pollinate these. You don’t know how many days the seeds are at. If they are still small and white just cut and smoke the bud.

The strategy I use for getting seeds and bud is pollinating single branches so you can get 50-100 seeds on a branch and cut the main buds down to smoke when ready. Let the seeds finish baking on the branch. Win win.

You have to let the seeds finish developing. If you want to ensure that you've allowed them to remain on the plant long enough to ensure viability then you want to wait until they are no longer green and some will almost be ready to fall out on their own.

Okay cool, that's what I was hoping. I can see that whats connecting them to the bud has started to open and I can see beans in there so I could imagine they would just fall out eventually. Thanks for the response.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same dam thing checking out the beans this morning.

I was wondering if the beans would mature before I had to take it down. There are only four of five that I see, so definitely not worth wrecking the flower for that.

But yeah, absolutely, you reach a point of diminishing return once the flower reaches peak ripeness. I have a few days to spare. Can always buy more beans but can't grow new ones outdoor till next spring.

I like the idea of strategic takedown and pollinating just a single branch. That's friggin brilliant.
