Thanks, I found it interesting reading too. ... I was trying do a little home research on insect vision when I came across it.
The lighting they use in their experimentation was called 'UVB 313' Does anyone use these for Canna? or the UVA 340 .. Heres a 3m link on them.
How may solar UV radiation be simulated?
UVA-340 and UVB-313 lamps are commonly used for UV exposure in accelerated laboratory weathering using fluorescent UV lamps. The UVA-340 lamp is a much better match to the solar UV spectrum, especially in the short wavelength region.

As long as the nms (wavelength) range are between | 315 – 280 nm | ..then it should technically work for Cannabis as well.

Still need to digest that paper but a standout section was about the increase of 'flavanoids' on plants with this lighting.
The effects of UV-B on flavonoid levels in 'N. attenuata' were similar to the effects described in previous work with woody and herbaceous species. The increase in the flavonoid rutin was consistent with previous observations showing increased levels of quercetin glucosides
(Lavolaet al., 1998; Ryanet al., 1998; Wilsonet al., 1998; Olssonet al., 1999; de la Rosaet al., 2001; Hofmann et al., 2003;Tegelberg et al., 2004).

Sounds like it would also be good to test on (peppers/chilis/woody herbs) --flavanoids are a Chefs best friend

I wanted to find out about Flavanoids. This paper has lots of interesting info on 'flavs' in Cannabis

Apparently they help reduce tumors too. ... amongst other therapeutic effects.

Im not sure this is desirable for Canna. more research needed, This is how it inhibits pests.
This effect has been attributed to a variety of potential causes, including UV-induced variations in leaf nitrogen (Hatcher and Paul, 1994), specific phenolic derivatives (McCloudand Berenbaum, 1994), cyanogenic compounds (Lindroth et al., 2000) and defence-related proteins such as protein-ase inhibitors

Yep, nice chart. Now I know exactly what UV rays are blocked by my UV treated polycarbonate, not that it matters.

Those 313's sound like a great option. Just got the 96 watt 7% UVB HO bulbs today and should have the other UVB 10%'s later today. Will post a few pics later when in hand.

I had a look for the 313 and UVA340 ... as much as I can tell the bulbs that fit inside lab equipment and not available for home usage. .. possibly with different fixtures/fittings.

I just purchased some Reptisun 10.0 HO 48" T8 tubes to give this a go, I currently have an Autoflower that's getting past the halfway point so I will be adding these shortly. I don't think the ones I purchased are all that hardcore but I am eager to see how they affect my grow. I figure for $40 it can't hurt to give it a shot and if I like what I see I will order a few more for my flower room but wanted to try a couple out on the Auto I have in my Veg tent right now.

Here are the 2 different UVB lights.
Would be nice if the 313's were available. Reminds me of the eminem song from 8 mile. "Everybody in the 313, put your hands up and follow me."
One last thing from the chart above. 400nm to 520nm range and peak chlorophyll. There are lights called actinic lights that peak at 420 and 460nm range. Really make the fish and salt water corals look great in this blue light. Anyone ever grow with these lights? I wonder if they would help with THC or plant growth at least in veg. I believe this blue range also helps with root growth and might be able to be used on rooting clones to promote root growth faster? Any opinions on this?

Thanks, and just to be cautious I am sure I can wear my sunglasses in there to help protect my eyes, they probably do a bang up job for the price I paid for them.
Up until recently I was rotating my plant in my tent but it's too damn bushy now so it's staying put, the UV lights are in the back of the tent and will only be directly shining on one side of the plant maybe this will give me a difference on the one side so I can compare and contrast with the buds that are not receiving direct light from the UV lamps. I'm guessing if the plant is absorbing it anywhere that it would likely affect the trichome production all over though and not just on that side.
I am interested to see for myself though, I think I only have a few more weeks left on this plant since it's an Auto and is getting 24/0 which is making it grow pretty quick.
