use eye protection around your lights

Wow, you guys are seriously trolling a thread about eye protection? Grow up. It's not a joke.

I'm looking into some eye wear. I'll get the method 7s if I must, but I'm not convinced it's necessary to spend that much. There are lots of UV glasses in numerous shades.

Does anyone know or can recommend a color shade that's good for LED grows. I'm guessing UV + UVB is best, I see those for 15-20 bucks, is this enough, or should I be looking at tint as well?

thanks guys!

Not trolling, just stating that we're used to the sun (150,000 some odd years of evolution) and it projects higher amounts of radiation in a broader spectrum than blue LED's. I'm reasonably confident that no one has gone blind from small amounts of exposure to the sun, so my thoughts were that being exposed to blue LED's at small intervals would have equally minimal effects. There are quite a few articles that do support the idea that long exposure to blue LED's is harmful, but they seem to be specifically concerning computer monitors, and TV's, etc.

If you're out in the sun all day, or for longer than 10-15 mins you should probably have eye protection on likewise in a grow tent. It's just common sense.

I don't think anyone is saying if you look at them you'll go blind instantly, but I do believe they're right in that they can damage your eyes, albeit slowly. I took the remote phospor off my 11w philips and looked at the royal blue led's very briefly, and my eyes were kinda screwy for about a half day as I was finding it hard to focus clearly to print on paper. Though I'm not that young.

I agree that the high lux coming from the small surface of LED's is harmful to the eyes, apart from that what eye protection is actually useful and worth the money? Are laser protection glasses viable?

Yea I hear that. But I can tell you first hand I have never looked directly into my lights and my eyes get red and sore and watery in minutes.. and you can correct me if I'm wrong but I also believe LEDs do not cause the eye to dilate so we take it all full force. Not saying I'm going blind, but that shit ain't cool so I'm gonna use some protection.

The Methods are nice but 99.99 is kinda pricey. I have found several pairs of 100% UVB and UVA glasses for $12 to $15 bucks. UVA B AND C start around $20 bucks. Also, Growers House has the Lumii Glasses for $19 bucks
