I have a 150 watt hps and two 200 watt equivelant (42 watt) 2700K CFL's running together for my bloom cycle. Have you heard of any reasons why you shouldn't mix the two types of light? These bulbs are in a 4x2x5 tall mylar grow tent.
Sounds good to me. You've got the right spectrum ranges. Just worry about your light timer at that point. you goin 12/12?

DUDE! ... this is exactly the information I was looking for (and the clearest). I've been scouring the net for a while now, and I always come up with tutorials with no punctuation, poor spelling, and bad grimmer (no offence, but it's difficult to understand =/ ) but a lot of good pictures ^_^ anyway, thanks for the info, much love.

What are the best cfl's for flowering? ANd how many per plant?
For flowering i use red 2700k mostly but i do like to add a few 6000k to the mix as your plants are still growing thru flowering,as for how many, quite frankly,as many as you can get..

Hey Doc! I'm new to this site and to these forums, and I want to thank all of you that post on these forums for the wealth of information I have already obtained. I read alot of this thread, and I will try not to ask ne stupid questions :) The bulbs that I bought are 42 watt CFLs with 150 Watt equivalent. I have them about 3 inches from my seedlings and the seedlings seem to be doing great. However, the box doesn't say "warm" or "soft" light, it just says the brand name, "springlamp" and then the side says 2800 Lumens and 4100K. I have not run into either of these numbers exactly on your thread so I thought I would ask you if you think these bulbs are good for me. I would like to run the same bulbs through the whole cycle, but if I need to add some, I can do that. My grow space is 4x5x5 and I'll b putting two plants in the area. I have 3 of the bulbs I mentioned in that area and the walls are lined with 2 mil mylar. I have three areas like that. I have a Medical growroom and must keep my crop small. I would like to end up with short plants and high yields (doesnt everyone) LOL. The strains I am starting with are Super Skunk, Hash Plant, and Mango. I bought SeeMore's book MJ buds for less, and almost have it memorized. Also, the first beans I tried, I didn't soak in water first, could that be why none of the damn things sprouted? Also, if anyone has any tips or suggestions, I am always welcome to them...because no matter how smart or mature we are, we still continue to learn. Best of luck to all, and I look forward to your responses and tips!
Peace, Pot, and Microdot!

My little sprouties are changing colors on me! Are the little baby leaves supposed to die and fall off? If so, then thats cool, but why are my lower leaves changing? They are in MG potting soil w/ no extra nutes, and I've been pHing my water to 7.0 just like the book says...

first things first...

yes the little clover looking leaves will eventually die and fall off

no your other leaves aren't supposed to turn colors they are supposed to be a nice dark green

miracle grow potting soil is way to hot of a soil for small plants and because of its pre nuted mix it will totally fuck with your grow later when your flowering if you can keep the plant alive long enough to do it because the soil is going to be over dosing your plant every time you water it and nute it at the same time

and finally you want your water ph to be between a 6.0 and a 6.5 if you ph to 7 you are heading towards the alkaline side and it is too easy to kill the plant just watering it

and for the light questions... get as close a *K* rating to 2700 for flowering and get as close a *K* rating to 6500 as you can and you can't go to wrong ... those middle of the road bulbs in the 4000 range aren't worth a shit really they are just basically good for seedlings but worthless for anything over 2 nodes...

Thanks for the info, I was only watering at 7 because thats what seemore said to do in the book. And thanks for the lighting tips, because K's werent mentioned at all in the book and thats how I ended up ordering shit lights. Do you have a suggestion as to which kind of soil I should use? I hear Happy Frog is good, and I've had good results with FF, in your opinion, which soil would work the best?

just about any sterilized soil with no *pre nuted* claims will work...you want to control the nutrients not the manufacturer and most pre nuted soils run to hot for weed

Thanks Norml. I have used the Tiger Bloom Trio as nutes before, any opinions about how well they work? Also, I hear there are diff nutes needed for diff strains?

sorry man im a ghetto grower...i use low cost nutes and i feel the higher priced ones are a waste of money...(i know ill get flamed for this one lol) but its all good ...just make sure that the nute ratios are all good for the cycle your in and make sure they provide the micro nutrients and your good :)
