It depends on the charges (and on conviction). If he is found to have misused campaign funds for this payment, a prison sentence becomes a real possibility.

DA Bragg Probing Another Trump Hush-Money Payment
The Manhattan district attorney's office is looking into an alleged second payment from former President Donald Trump to a woman, former Playboy Playmate of the Year Karen McDougal, who says she had an affair with him years before he was elected.
According to The Wall Street Journal, which reported on the news Thursday, McDougal claims to have received $150,000 for her silence after a 10-month relationship with Trump beginning in 2006.

McDougal signed a contract with the National Enquirer in August, 2016, for exclusive rights to the story, but it was later purchased by Trump-allied publisher American Media Inc., now known as A360 Media.

The buy-out took the story off the market in a method known as "catch and kill," it was eventually acknowledged to prosecutors. Several months thereafter, the Journal broke the story.

Trump's legal team maintains that he was unaware of the deal by American Media Inc. until after it occurred and denies ever having an affair with McDougal.

National Enquirer publisher David Pecker previously testified in court on the McDougal incident, admitting that he should have informed the Federal Election Commission.

Sources told the Journal that the McDougal payment is important for prosecutors to establish a pattern of conduct by the former president, who is also accused of overseeing a hush-money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's team argues that Daniels received $130,000 from former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who was later reimbursed by Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Cohen has since flipped on Trump and serves as a key witness for Bragg in the ongoing investigation. However, testimony from his former colleague Robert Costello and a resurfaced 2018 letter have called his credibility into doubt.
Trump's indictment by the New York grand jury was initially expected to occur earlier this month. However, potential charges have been pushed back for weeks as the panel is expected to break for most of April.

This is the question a lot of people are asking. The answer is, it depends — on what he is charged with, of course, and of what, if anything, he is ultimately convicted.

Before news of the indictment broke, Bragg was believed to be considering charges of falsifying business records in the commission of another crime, possible a campaign-finance violation. That would be a low-level felony, according to New York state law, punishable by up to four years in prison.
But charges can be downgraded, sentences vary case by case, and, in general, it is unusual for a person with no criminal record to be sentenced to extensive jail time for a nonviolent, low-level felony violation.
So even if Trump is convicted of a felony, it does not necessarily mean he will spend time in jail.

Bragg won't release the details of the indictment (what he's being charged for) until at least it is filed in court but might wait until Trump appears in court. It's going to be a while before we know what kind of jeopardy Trump is in.

It's a possibility but it's a state charge not a federal charge that had Cohen doing prison time. First time offender, no criminal record, no victim. Time will tell. He still has to be convicted and sentenced. People shouldn't get all gung ho dreaming of prison bars at this time.

Trump lashes out at indictment, says he’s ‘completely innocent’
Former President Trump lashed out on Thursday after he was indicted in an alleged hush money scheme, maintaining his innocence and accusing Democrats and law enforcement officials of “weaponizing our justice system to punish a political opponent.”

“This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,” Trump said in a statement. “From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement.”

“The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable – indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference,” he added.

The former president’s comments came within minutes of reports that a grand jury in Manhattan had voted to charge Trump in a scheme to pay hush money to a porn star during his 2016 presidential bid to cover up an alleged affair. Trump has denied the affair.

The indictment has been expected for weeks. Earlier this month, prosecutors in Manhattan offered Trump and his lawyers the opportunity to testify before the grand jury, signaling that a decision on an indictment was close.

Since then, Trump has sought to rally his base around the notion that he is the victim of a political witch hunt, rehashing a line that he has used for years both on the campaign trail and in the White House.

Yet the indictment has thrust his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination into unknown territory. He’s the first current or former president to be indicted on criminal charges, and it’s unclear how the matter will play out on the campaign trail.

Trump sought to case the indictment as a political asset, claiming that the charges would “backfire massively” on both President Biden and Alvin Bragg (D), the Manhattan district attorney whose office is behind the investigation into Trump’s conduct.

I never said he wouldn't be indicted. I told people to wait until the news came from official sources which it has not from some post trump made. I stand behind every post I've made on the matter. I wait for the actual facts. The facts are that trump was indicted. When this thread was started almost two weeks ago there were no facts. I wasn't wrong about anything but spin it however you please.

Is there anybody in this sub forum that thinks Trump is just being picked on by the Libs? Poor guy can’t catch a break type of bullshit?
Anyone gonna stick up for trump besides thinking some of us are obsessed with seeing him going down?

We've had a couple of cynics claim Trump won't be charged or found guilty or be sentenced to serve time. But they based their predictions on the cynical belief that Trump was too well connected to be charged, etc, not on a belief the he was innocent. One of the cynics said it was too minor of a crime to charge Trump with. As if Trump doesn't have to follow the same laws you and I do.

I haven't seen a single post in this thread that claims Trump was innocent of document fraud.
