Trim Jail is Hell

I know that some people don't mind it. I didn't used to mind it so much when I had plants that weren't too leafy. I even made a nice, comfortable space with music playing and the whole nine yards.....But, it took me 4 days! My eyes are shot. My back is killing me. When I close my eyes at night to sleep, all I see are tiny leaf tips. I love growing weed -the whole process.....except trimming! :)

Some diy might help. Box fan with hacksaw blade will take off all the larger leaf. And a bowl trimmer does a good job if you’re not trying to sell weed that looks like dispensary… never had a complaint so far. If you do it wet in the trimbowl there will be less loss of trichs. So box fan, bowl trimmer, drying rack. Nobody is gonna care if there is a flat spot on the buds… as long as quality is there.

It is a pain in the ass.

I don't sell I give it away to friends so much depends on appearance, similar to Japanese food appearance is key.

My method is to trim in hour lots. I will fill a seafood bin from the growth. If I need to will cut and fill extra bins and pop in fridge.
The downside of trimming for multiple hours outside of repetitive stain injuries the quality of your trimming decreases as you get into multiple hours.
Not sure about the mechanical trimmers, outside of the kief everywhere issue, I trim on a tray and get a gram or two from each trimming session.
Part of my process is to grade the buds during the trimming process popcorn and early developing buds go in the hash bucket.

My fall process drying is done on a rack and one seafood container fill one tier. My winter process involves paper bagging the trimmed pot until dry. But with both processes I check them 3 times a day and adjust as needed.

If home grown pot takes off there could be the start of niche trimming business, some of the commercial machines would do very well.

On another note, when did appearance of weed dictate how good it is? How can someone go into a dispensary, look at a bud and say “it’s fire” just by look? My product may not look like theirs, BUT my product tastes, smells, smokes, and gets you higher faster and for longer than dispensary weed ever has. I can smoke my “20%” and be higher for longer than the highest THC dispo bud. Fact!

Cut your 8hrs of torture down to 2hrs of watching TV and spinning the crank on your new bowl trimmer.

I like most hate trimming, then that hatred was compounded when I started scroging. A couple harvest went by before I bought a bowl trimmer, best investment ever.
Me and a buddy can trim. 6lbs wet in 2 hours. With a bowl trimmer. Including clean up.20240129_165143.jpg

Appreciate all the responses! And yeah I would DEFINITELY consider a bowl trimmer or something like has been suggested.....but, this last run, four out of my five plants expressed very sativa-like growth....meaning they produced tons of trichomes on very wispy, larfy type flowers. If I put buds like that into a bowl trimmer, then I'd end up with some stems! The buds would be the trim! So, it was like doing surgery for me to get through it. I wish the buds had ended up being the dense type that are mostly calyxes that roll around like pine cones....but noooooOOOoo! :) On the bright side, I still have a couple plants drying that will be much easier to deal with when the time comes. But, man, the heavy sativa-dominant expressions are no fun to trim.

Yeah, I made the mistake of trying a “foxtail” sativa in mine… it’s good for rollin with or packing the bong lol

Another good thing is that, even though I did get a lot of leaf trim, it is all very trichome-rich so it's going to make some great bubble hash I think (hope).
That was gunna be my suggestion. Make hash. Cuts down on trim time if you rough trim and fresh freeze. But being sativa it might not wash well…that’s been my experience.

Isopropyl wash is the only way with sticky sativas that don’t shed their resin in ice water.

I just kept the tops now and turn the rest untrimmed into bubble

I did my first “larger” trim in November for my two large outdoor plants , bought a bowl trimmer and it helped but destroyed my pretty flower so i ended up opting out and back to light hand trimming for the second plant.Got about 4 pounds total off the two plants , but ended up with 3 pounds of ”pretty buds” and a lot of ugly bud with a lot of keif. I feel for you, i hate it as well but its all worth it in the end!

I never said it was a test as to how good it is. I said it was part of the appeal with the whole package.

Rolling a clean prepared racecar rolling out of the trailer attracts more attention than rolling one that looks like it just came off the track.
