Transplanting directly from the ground?

My outdoor garden has begun to flower but the location will cease to be safe before they will be ready.

My plants were started indoor before being transplanted directly into the ground in early June. Can they be dug up and placed in pots or will damaging the roots at this point in the game be too much for the plants to take?

They are in upstate NY and I'm expecting most of them to require several weeks to mature but I may have to either move them or destroy them within the week.

I guess you need to out way the risks. If they stay in the ground are they definitely not gonna make it? transplanting them right now is “possible” without a lot of care and they certainly won’t take kindly to it. How bad of a situation would it be if you left them? If there 100% not gonna make it where they are now then take the risk and transplant. At least then if there stunted you can bring them inside and finish out the season. If you do transplant, dig way past where you think the roots are. They can get pretty wide. Put them in a larger container than you think you need. Water them generously after with super thrive. Good luck

Yeah i agree with this! would say if you have to, dig way past the roots and lift the plant with as much mass around the rootball as possible. The problem comes with soil, and wet soil especially is heavy. Hell, get some sort of winch or something with straps once its dug nicely underneath the rootball. Good luck man, super sad to hear but worth a try. Cannabis is a weed after all

Dig wide and deep. Wrap the root ball in burlap. Be gentle, find a strong friend and move away. With days getting shorter and cooler, I'd be surprised it it takes root in its new home. Good luck.
