transplant during flower

im suprised to see this isnt really easy to find.

anyone in here ever try to transplant during flower? im geussing after a certain point thru its only worth it if the roots are quite bound and the plant wont finish properly.

so say you have a decent size plant under a 1000w hps. by week 3/4 you think it may be in a smaller than ideal size pot. is it too late to transplant in your opinion? and why.
would it not be worth disturbing the roots? would it most likely help the plant in the long run?

I would just water a little more often than subjecting the root mass to a possible catastrophic break up.

befor stretch was the time to do dat
week 3-4 sounds like right after stretch
not as much activity going on below surface at this point
more ctivity being focused on budddage

in my opinion - no expert just good common sence

in my opinion i see this way
first 1/3 of flower stretch (mh)
second 1/3 is time buds get hard (hps)
last 1/3 of flower final bulk up (mh)

I an I

Yes you can transplant up to four weeks in, that shouldn't be a problem. Wouldn't push it any further than that though, especially with an 8\9 week strain.

i have never done it. but it like this, now, we can plan ahead. nothing to even consider, now. if i have room, i got from cups to my final size. or, to one gallons for a couple weeks. maybe 3. THEN into the finals. during all this, i give em foxfarms kangaroots. live mycortiza. it has helped me lots. equal parts that, and big bloom for all younger plants. when i put in finals, i water in with the veg nute of choice. for me, its either flora nova, or grow big. no need to transplant again. some people like small pots. in fact, mandala reccomends using a one gal only. and little or no food. im off subject. stoned.

My current plant, and one of my last outdoor plants, I did 3-4 weeks into flower, scoring the bottom of the rootball about halfway up and splitting the quarters over a fresh mound of soil in the soil like I do with other plants, and had no ill effects from it.Pic1dec17_zps603dfad4.jpgdec24pic4_zps303382c6.jpg
Pics 1 week apart, going from 1 1/2 gal. bucket to 5 gal. pot.

I have a bag seed plant currently in flower.
I used really crappy soil initially and by the time I was 4 weeks into flower, I could tell it was possibly root locked...

so I mixed up a nice fresh batch of soil, perilite, vermiculite, potassium silicate, trace elements and worm castings..in another 5gal bucket

I dug out the old lady being mindful to not rip the roots and put her in her new home.

I'm currently in my 8th week of flower and she is LOVING it!! it slowed down the flowering process for sure... but the hairs perked up about a week later and trikes started becoming visible..

be expecting it to slow your flowering time down a little...or even a lot....

and definitely know that it is risky....but it's worth it if your plant is actually in need of it....sometimes that can be hard to determine....

WOW very conflicting info im getting here on this. in my high times its very vauge about it. they make it sound like u can. ive really read both ways.

like i said in the beginning, it seems like after a certain point its useless. but i noticed that plants will cannabilize the green out quicker if they are on the edge of needing a repot.

also sounds strain/pheno specific. strains like pineapple express and critical + need tons of room for roots in my experience. seems the strains that have the most explosive bud growth and stretch potential combined.

If they are plastic pots, cut the bottoms carefully with a razor knife, and put them in a bigger pot of dirt without ever taking it out of the old pot..

That is one thought..

i agree with this post for the most part and others that hint towards this opinion. id say after weeks 4-5 on a 8-10 week strain u shouldnt mess with it.

either way i have a Grape Ape that is an explosive grower, very big yielder. its in a smaller than ideal pot atm, about 4/5 weeks into flower under a 1000 HPS. i flowered it from a small size not thinking it would have gotten so big, and ive even grown the strain multiple times before same pheno and all. its starting to have its lower leaves yellow and drop. i have to feed and water it as much as possible to prevent it.

it seems some strains' roots just need more travel room. cuz i have strains that produce VERY thick roots, and they dont seem to be as easily effected by the roots getting bound.

If done properly, then there's no problem. I think the rteason a lot of people have so many probs in flower is cause their plants have been stressed in 1 way or another the whole grow, so they're at the point of pitching a fit anyway. A healthy plant can take a good bit of abuse with no probs. I've supercropped later than that before with no probs.

Man.. you can transplant whenever you want.. I've transplanted way into flowering in the ol days.. Just be gentle.. Like I say, in such "meh, I better' situations, I like to cut the bottoms out of the pots and set them inside bigger pots.. I don't disturb the plants, it has a place for the roots to creep into and helps 'sweeten' things a bit..

I've done this in the last two weeks before a harvest and people would be surprised how those root's filled in with only 2 weeks to go.. they were the little hair roots.. but tons of them.

Just be gentle..

be gentle..

gentle..

The reason the rule of thumb is halfway into the flowering cycle is that up until this point the plant is still technically growing vegetatively. Transplants really shouldn't be a big deal, the ways I could envision it going terribly wrong have a lot to do with improper handling or the medium being water-logged without a lot of real root growth in the first place; so someone yanks it out and leaves behind half the roots that were there or otherwise does some kind of significant damage to the existing root-ball.
