Topping auto's.........Any tails to share

I just started lurking the Auto threads. I recieved several auto ceeds in the past two SOS orders.
I have been thinking about running one in my veg tent. I have a perpetual grow, so there's always room in the veg tent for an extra plant or two.
I was just going to throw it in there with everything else on 18/6, and just never put it in the flower room.
Now after reading this, I am going to run two of them. I'll do a one time topping on one, and straight up the other.

I think some of those SOS freebies I got in the promo, also came in this recent order I got today. If I have two ceeds of the same strain, I'll run them and see how they yield, side by side.
I'll have to mix my spectrum in the tent, to add some more reds and yellows, (I have a 6 bulb T5 in there) but it shouldn't slow down the vegging regular plants I have going too much. I flower with a mixed spectrum anyhow, usually just a lot less blue/white
The lighting wont matter as much, since the experiment parameters will be the same for both plants.
Anyhow, I'll germ them tonight, and get them going.

when you top them too greatly affects outcome
if you top before preflower or right after it doesnt impact run time to much
if topped right before vertical growths stops ( this is where knowing your strain comes in handy) then they tend to delay flowering for a few weeks at the least
from what ive seen anyway
 
Thread Update: I checked my auto freebies last night, and I don't have two of the same strain. I have, Amnesia, Super Bud, Somango and Purple.

What does everyone think I should try?
I'm thinking Super Bud and Somango. They should be more indica like or similar I guess.
I think the one I top will be the Super Bud.

I am going to germ them later today, so throw in your thoughts people.

What two would display the most similar growth traits?
 
have a few blue mammoth autos i topped. they look great, ill post a pic tonight. thinkin ill get more than what i got last time off them.

I am germing the super bud and somango.
 
I grew autos twice and never topped them but still got a decent yield,(40z 3 plants).I wouldn't top them. It's not recommended for autos.
 
somango is a hands on strain if i remember right
lollipop if you leave it alone
but bush's if you start with some hardcore lst early on

topped blue mammoth vs non topped. ill post back which one had more dry weight at end. these are on day 29 flower now.
 
what light system are u using fo those ............i know i messed up with my berry ryder but i am disapointed in the first budding one i have it is only make light stuff not thickening out like i am seeing with your guys ...........i got to correct this for the next set coming behide it
 
intense light is key. they are in a 8.5 by 9.5 room with 3000 wattts hps

last run i had some in a closet with a 1000 watt and i got zip half each one. but i did mess those up by putting them in some shit soil.. what i get for rushing i guess.

put them in a big pot, good soil, and intense light....

i tend to stay away from autos , there not really worth it for me. i can grow a better plant in its place.
i plan to try a few in future under some leds and see what yield i can get off them.

well my freebee from autos was some carmel auto and its worthless lol... ill post a pic later.. really stretched and airy plant. id like to see how the blue cheese auto finishes. i have 4 reg blue cheese in my flower room and they look great thus far.

love attitude though i prolly have a 99 percent germ rate with there seeds.
