Topping advice

Since you're scrogging , I would FIM.....get more bang for your buck. However , if you're unsure just TOP 2 and FIM 2, label which is which and see what you like best . I just wouldn't cut earlier than 4 nodes of true growth .
I’ve never done that, similar right? Bend and snap at the new growth?

my scrog is a shitty trellis net, but if it’s tight enough it should work as well as chicken wire right? And thanks to all of you who have helped!
It will work ok.
The main problem with the trellis is the size of the squares. You have to wait till it grows quite a bit to tuck it back under the next square. If you made yourself a simple screen with garden fencing or something of that sort it would be easier. Chicken wire isnt the best for scrogging because of how small the holes are and thin the wire is. I did it, but looking back i should have used something heavier.

FIMMING is actually pinching or cutting appx. 75% of the very top of new growth ......just google FIM if haven't already and you'll get the hang of it ...super easy

Mines made for growing so I can make the squares/diamonds as small/big as I want . Down side is if i make them 2-3” or so , it makes the overall coverage smaller

I like how you threw out how I can try different techniques. I’ll Top 2 and FIM 2 . Thanks!

So basically I’m just trimming the new top pointed growth down 75% . How in the hell does that make 4 new colas?
For a quick explanation on FIM just google it....I have had much success with it and was likewise skeptical at first .

Found this, so I’m going to Top, wait a few days then FIM the new 2 colas.. have you have good luck getting 4-6-8 colas from doing this??

Yep, I generally get 4....and you can also FIM side branches as well if you have the space once you get the hang of things .

I think if I do the sides I’ll have a prob with the amount of plants I’ve got going. Might have to get a bigger tent as it is . Thanks again for your input. I’ll post an update to this thread as soon as I get them going.

Good question.

Look close at the small shoots next to the fan leaves on the plant ( you could count them ).
Each one can become a cola.

The new growth often has a few new shoots in the very early stages and the small fan leaves wrap round them, its these small fan leaves you want to cut 50% off.

This alway stunts the top growth, the plant redirects the energy to the lower nodes/bud sites and result is a very bushy plant.

Update: Fimmed 2 plants , 5th node. Waiting on the others to catch up . Looking like I did it ok?

You have a good straight cut with some new growth there, but you did cut too much off.
The new growth will grow and plant will turn out bushy but it may take a week longer.

So your saying I might of actually topped it? Lol . If so , I was going to top the other two when ready to compare growth.

I got a couple weeks before I put it up (prob) Mine is a vivosun that can make any size square/diamond down to an 1”. Cheap but looks like it will be easy and effective . Do you think fimmed to much on those two plant pics above? Other two I can fim less if that’s the case.

You have film the plant, you have taki

you have fim the plant and done a good job.
Just saying cut off a little less next time and it will recover more quickly

Is it normal for the tips where I cut to turn yellowish/brown? It’s only been one light cycle
