Too late to uppot?

Hey all. I’m on my first grow and have been just forcing myself to learn as I go (I have been an avid gardener for several years but veggies outdoors lol). So I have what I was TOLD to be an indica dominant gold leaf I’ve grown from seed. I started LST pretty much week 1 of veg. I just hit week 4 of veg today and had started the seed in a 3 gal pot. It’s started to slow down in growth it seems and I was thinking now would be a good time to put it into a 5 or 7 gal pot since from what I can tell this strain will take off during flower. I am growing in FFOF (won’t use it again next time) but have just been using filtered water from my rain barrel system that is used for my veggie garden as well. (I figured FFOF already had enough nutrients to get it going). My main concern is by moving it into a larger pot with larger FFOF volume would that stress or harm the roots/plant? I also have to add that my light situation isn’t ideal. Was a handmedown from my uncle. It’s a Kingplus “1000w” which is actually like 195w. But figured 35w per sqft should get me through the entire process and I can reevaluate for my next grow. I have attached some pics. Constructive criticism and any issues with the plant I may not have realized are MORE than welcome! I appreciate it in advance!!!

I also must add that normally when I uppot my veggies I really don’t pay attention to soil moisture… but seems like the roots of cannabis are a little more wild and sensitive…. So you recommend letting the soil dry out first or does it not really matter?

IMO too many people worry about "rootbound" that don't need to. That plant can stay in this pot for the rest of the year and be fine, you'll just need to water it more; a 5 or 7gal pot you can get away with skipping waterings but in a 3gal you'll likely just have to water daily.

Just flower it out now and it'll be fine. To answer your question though no, I don't think it's too late to transplant.

It's not too late to transplant, but yes they are easier to handle if you let it dry out a bit.

I have been experimenting with different size grow bags and size definitely does matter.

Thank you for your reply. Ya this go around is more so for me to focus on the health of the plant rather than size. I’m sure I wouldn’t get as much yield as say an 8 week veg… but so far it’s been really fun seeing how strong willed these plants are. I built a scrog but only because so got bored lol. May try a sativa next round and scrog. I’ve been aerating the soil a day or so after every water and can tell I have room/the roots have been spreading nicely. Just wasn’t sure if it would go ham on me. But other than that can you tell if the plant is healthy enough to begin flower? I feel it is but again…. It’s my first grow lol

ya my first mistake was using this resin pot that goes from wide on top to narrow at the bottom. I’ve already bought normal larger pots but will use those for my next grow. Thanks for the reply mang.

Oh! Another question…. I just watered her yesterday so was planning on letting her dry out one more time and then the next feeding I’ll add some blooming/flowering agents just before flipping? I see FFOF has plenty of N in it. It’s been several weeks so I’m assuming im probably getting towards the end of those nutrients having an effect so figured I’d rely on nutrients for bloom and just monitor for any early signs of N depletion before worrying about adding any since most plants only require little N during flower.

I’ve also found my light at 20” has been best for veg stage. Does it typically need to be lower for flower?

It doesn’t have to be lower, though most people sit their lights around 18”.. you wanna crank it up gradually once those flowers start coming together tho.

mine doesnt have an adjustment. Just flower and bloom. I’m definitely going to invest in better lighting for the next grow. But for now I’m just working with”Watt” I got ha

Use both switches on when flowering
Normally you switch to bloom nutrients a few week after flipping not a few week before.
In veg it's harder to stress them out, so you can do what you want.

move been using both through veg as well. With the low wattage Iwas kind of figuring the full spectrum would help

I had been watering until run off but just realized the coco growers do that so had been wondering why my soil took so long to dry. Probably explains my root system not being as strong. But I’ve been waiting for it to dry and not watering until it shows signs of being thirsty. I want to figure the watering amount first as well before flipping if it’s more anxiety prone during flower

‘First … you need to relax , it’s a plant.

‘Water it when needed , fox farm soil will feed it and exhaust over time. It is nute charged and takes a few week before showing depletion ( strain dependent) . Don’t start “ bloom stage “ nutes unless plant is actually in bloom. You can flip that plant as is …. Wait for transition ( sexxing and bud set ) / ( stretch ) phase to slow ( roughly 2 weeks after flip ). Then consider plant flowering as plant moves into this next grow stage.

You state you have garden experience- there is no difference- it’s a consumable plant like your fruiting kind. Cannabis is quite resilient and it’s rooting strong. Most grows are wrecked from over loving and or overthinking.

Thanks man. Ya I’m not stressing over it. There were just a couple of things I wasn’t sure if Cannabis differed from veggies with/I outdoor grow veggies and from seed I did well but as it’s getting closer to flower …. The fact I’ll control when it blooms kind of had me second guessing my original plan ha. I appreciate your reply. Ya I couldn’t believe how much crap was in that FFOF But figured it would be best to use without wasting money on their whole line of nutrients. So I’m growing in my closet.. I made a scrog because I’m anticipating a crazy stretch. From what I’ve seen I should be able to get away with weaving the plant through the second week of flower? It seems scrogging is a love/hate relationship here but I’m primarily using it to limit the height gained. Ya these plants are waayyy more resilient than everything in my garden ….. though my watermelon may give them a run for their money.

literally redneck engineering out here.My wife keeps closing the floor vent in the bedroom where the closet is so the closet gets to freaking 88 degrees with the light so I duct taped a seltzer water box and used some left over half inch drip line, sealed the box around the floor vent and ran the tubing into the closet. Keeps it at a constant 75 degrees and our bedroom still gets cool since the vent in the grow bedroom is restricted Plus doing all this will get her to agree to put a little more funding into grow equipment lol. It’s a win win.
