Time for 400W MH?

I'm wondering when a 400W MH light should be introduced for veg, I have been searching and searching and cannot seem to find the answer I need.

I have 5 seedlings under t5's, they have been under for 2 days and are vigorous little ladies. I want to put them under stronger light but i don't want it to be too intense for the little seedlings.

Let me know what you guys prefer.

i do as soon as they start their third true node, the round leaves dont count
ive had great success and never saw light stress(which can happen to seedlings)

well lucky for you i was asking myself this exactly 10 days ago and i was under some cfl bulbs at first for my clones...DSC02413.jpg

ofcourse mine were store bought clones which were already semi rooted in rockwool, but i still have experience with the transition your talking about from other grows, your on the right track thinking that the light is too intense for the seedlings...it will easily burn them from the intensity from the light and/or heat...

like he said, 3 nodes sounds good, and even at that keep the 400 watter (same light as i have) like 20-24 inches away and gradulally bring it closer until its like maybe 10 - 12 inches away as long as it doesnt get too hot...

check out my current grow on my signature and you can witness the transition first hand and how they acclimated to the change, and good luck bro!...this is where im at as of right now...IMG_20110518_190254.jpg

i start mine under a 1000w with no problems. i just put it about 3 feet above em. i dont even mess with florescents. but i also use an air cooled hood and heat wouldnt be an issue even if they were 3 inches away. i've heard you can stress seedlings with too much light, but ive never ran into that problem

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will wait for the 3rd true node as stated, I don't wanna risk stressing my girls out. This is my first true grow with the proper strains, lights, and nutes, trying to make it go as smooth as possible with not making too many newbie mistakes.
