Amazing Work! thanks a lot to share!
I want to test in my prototype lamp this type of COB.I have right now 2x meanwell LPF-60D-54(1.12A) and 2x LPF-40D-36(1.12A) dimmable with pot 100k.
The 60D at max make 68W, the 40D at max make 47W, both tested after 24 hours of continuous stay realy cool in a sistem with 32 luxeon rebel best bin in 2 separate chanel with 12" fan at 64cfm with little fischer 160x200x25.
The lamp at max power after 24 hours continuos stay stable at 30°C.
The heatsink simulator, in this case, make wrong result: it supposes 43°C.
Do you think it's possible to use this combination of cob and meanwell?
Which COB I can use for my meanwell?
I see the CXA3590-0000-000R0YZ40E7 1.2 A - 77 V - CRI 93...
I know the power it's undersized, but it is for idro-microgrow with little problem in water temp that right now it's not risolved, and I don't know how.
I think SupraSPL ,Guod , Mr Flux .....
will give you far better advice and guidance ,related to your questions..
( At least I've asked them .....)
I do not think that those drivers you could power anything more than a 3050 or 3070 cob per driver ...
(3070: LPF-60D-54(1.12A) ..... 3050 ? : LPF-40D-36(1.12A) )

Great project sds...I think it is time for a patent!

The biggest question (in my mind) is how many of those high power leds you need to replace a hps 600 w or 1000 w bulb. There are a lot of led-sellers who exaggerate the performance of their leds what results in dissapointing grows/results, so I have read.

On youtube there is a guy that has a side by side grow of AT600 vs 1000HPS. Latest video was made on day 56. It looks very promising.

A) Depends ...From four CXA 3070 (or more if driven softer / more efficiently ) to 'replace' a 400 W HPS .
(As this fixture -mainly-intends to ...) ...

B) That guy is GreenGenes707 and you can check his amazing thread = >here <=.
Every HID-grower should check it out ,in fact ....

Allow me ,to 'guide' you also ,to some other -favorite of mine- threads that are more than worthy checking out :

-Quantum Dot Led grow light

-Welcome to the CXA Kingdom .

-Induction +LEDS

-Kickass DIY #1

-Kickass DIY #2

-The Must-Read & All time Classic

.......And many more all over the LED section of RIU .

...................................................................................................................................................
" There are a lot of led-sellers who exaggerate the performance of their leds what results in dissapointing grows/results, so I have read
."

Might be so ....

But there are, also, a lot of led-growers who test the performance of various types of leds
or led grow light/fixtures ...
Either branded or DIY built ...
And none is exaggerating about their successful grows/results with leds ...
So ,I 've also read ...

Cheers ...

I'm bored today ....
Saturday ....

Well ...
At least I've started wiring the AC lines ...

P5101237.JPG

P5101239.JPG

P5101238.JPG

And another small detail ....
For Arduino Uno to drive one of these LCD screens ( NOKIA 5110 type ) ,a small circuit is needed ,
called " Logic Level Shifter or Converter " ...
Why ?
Because Arduino Uno has a Logic Level of +5VDC ( as 'High" / 1 ) .
These screens operate with digital signals of +3.3VDC logic level ...
So there's has to be a device in between those logic level uncompatible devices ,in order to
allow the vice-versa signal transfer of the two devices ,without the one frying the logic circuits of the other .
Something like that : http://www.sparkfun.com/products/11978

Level shifting can be done with resistors, but the method is not that much suggested.
So ...The 'plug' of the screen ,has a built-in a -3x - MOSFET logic level shifter ....

Straight from the SDS Optoelectronics Labs ..

P5101242.JPG

At pic you can see the GC400 department ..
On the background a GC400 experimental model still in development stage ,
placed uppon a high-tech round stand .

Trail of tools from high-tech stand to the bench ,
actually denotes that probably the builder is way -out -of -his-ass ..stoned...
He could have simply placed the fixture on the bench .

But that's a ...
Stoner's way of doing things ...

A note :

That's what happens when you're still in the white belt
and you go for the big -fight ..........

LED -DIY-DO is a 'martial art ' with a really long history ,trailing back to caveman and his rather desperate attempts ,
to create 'light ' by rubbing dry pieces of wood .

Few are the true masters of the Art .
:hump::hump::hump::hump::hump::hump:
One of them is Master Sensei Guod.
....

And when Master SenseI Guod says " RTFM !! " you do it !

Don't speak!
Don't you even think.
Just read the fuckin' manual.....

MeanWell PS-45-15 (the fan/Arduino PSU ) has Molex connectors for AC input and DC output ...

I knew that !

So while 've finished doing all the necessary cyber-shopping and paid all the shipping costs ....
WTF ?

It kinda was a deep thought of mine that the MeanWell HPL led drivers will also feature those
same Molex connectors ...I saw 'em on the datasheets pic !
Many times !

Fuck that chinese saying that goes like "One image, thousand words " ...:finger:
Thousand words at cantonese dialect ,they meant .Be sure about that ! :cuss:

Don't trust what you see,also ...
(Well...Sometimes ,at least ...:-?....)
Just read the fuckin' manual.....
Again....

Well..
Breathe in ...Breath out ,SDS son ...
They actually have JST connectors !!!
P5101244.JPG
And JST connectors are nowhere to be found in a ...~ 1000 km radius ...
Breathe in ...Breath out ,SDS son ...

Cyber shop for $5 in connectors ?
No way ....

The punishment to young grasshopper SDS for not reading (once again )*,
the fuckin manual :

P5101245.JPG

I'm really sorry Master Sensei Guod ,I'm a worm ...I'll always read the fuckin manual from now and on ,I promise ...

No Joke .

Rule #1 : Always RTFM first!
And when you finish with it ,read it once more !

Edit:
Rule#2:
Always listen to what Master Sensei Guod has to say !

Only the pictures i see, with so many parts around and I get dizzy allready!

I guess let alone assemblies

For sure the hand and the mind work mechanical now, since there is practice.

I hope sometime in the near future ,to be deal with these amazing lights, because they are more than interesting and vast study, which makes it remarkable!

Also is restful to have your plants at home, than to be run to the mountains and the plains!
And quality for sure was incredible from LED :cuss:

The day is just full of fun ....
It just gets bettter and bettter ....
:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:

Don't ask ....
Monday morning ....
I need a thermistor and a 4A 250 V fuse ....

A stoned DIYer ,his monstrous design and free wires all over ....
A short ,sad story film ...
About a stupid stoner being careless and a self -cannibalising machine ,eating it's guts ...
Wires ala Napolitana ....
.....Και ο μαλάκας τα 'κανα πουτάνα .....

Enjoy ....

(The end was not that happy ..It was not sencored though.
It was just the fact that the cameraman had to drop the camera,in order to save the day ! )

So that was a loose wire in the fan?
Yeap !
Exactly ...
That is what I heard. A wire hitting a fan blade. Had it happen in my PC tower builds more than once.

I thought that there were going to be sparks along with a fire after the dire description you offered.

Oh ! that came later ....
The MeanWell PS-45-15 ,is placed on top of PMMA (plexiglass ) 'base' ,in order to .....
isolate it from the rest of case ....

Well ...That plexi base is attached (with spacers ) on the case with two screws ...

Then I pressed -accidently- the PSU down ...
And underneath the pcb ,even if it is painted ,a heatsink ( From AC side ) pin contacted the head of one of the screws ... ...
Which is grounded ...
...
1) A strong brief blue flash and sound of glass exploding ...
(That was the 4A fuse of the MeanWell PSU ....)

2) A strong metallic / burned chemical smell aka .... the 'oh-shit,I 've just fried something ' famous to DIYers smell....
(Later to be found ,that the inrush current thermistor of the PSU ,has lost a piece of the shiny epoxy coat ...
Actually half of it .... Fried .... )

3 ) Darkness and silence ....
( That was the house's mains fuse ..Resettable ,no worries ... )

4) I had forgotten what happened to me , just before half a second ..
Was it a fart or have I just shitted on my pants?

.........
I had forgot to place a thin sheet of plastic over the screw heads ...
I had it in mind ,but I got carried away I guess ...
Anyway ...Nothing important....That is not fixable in less than 15' ....
At least I've discovered ...(in the good 'ol way ..:wall:.) a fault of mine ..:dunce:

It happens ...
At least it've' came back ' to me that I've to place some protective plastic shielding ,
-as normally utilised in the art -where there's AC lines ..

Anyway ..
Always keep learning ...
And applying the knowledge acquired ...
Like Here :
P5111248.JPG

Close encounters of the led driver heatsink with the SSR on/off switch pins ....
Hot glue and special plastic sheet ...Plus bending the switch pins ,away from the heatsink ...

P5111247.JPG
Alll the leds drivers have the same shield underneath .
All the MeanWell PSUs used ( 1 x CV 4xCC/CV ) must be grounded at three points.
At the grounding pin and at two of the mounting holes..( marked)

CXAs can be totally switched off via the SSR ( as MeanWell suggests in the Drivers spec sheet ) ...

Wiring this thing seems ...an endless procedure ....
My God ,One more night awake till morning ,over that thing !
P5111249.JPG

Hey,it even .....
.....has it's own USB cable !
Normally, folded and nicely tucked inside the case ...
:bigjoint:
( I'm not sticking my fingers inside there again ..... :dunce:....
Even the fans seem to be some badass meat mincers ,at 13.3 VDC ..)

if I can a little suggestion: if there are sufficent space you can think to put other 2 metal gril on the 2 tornado-fan inside the case,
only for safety purpose and to exclude future wire interference...
I think with only 60cfmXfan you are ok with temp in silence setup...
this sunon fan are incredible...like the papst used in overcloking pc benck...
other interesting fan with a lot of research in industrial design and eng, a compromise tending to silence but realy efficent,
I use in my lamp, in all my pc and micro-idro-grow-design-space,
are the Noctua 120mm Fan NF-F12-PWM.
realy super-master-pro-work! no future without research and innovation!

I'm taking a brake ....
Thought to update a 'tad '....

Used a stiff ,thin plastic foil piece as spade ..
And work the tiny blob of Arctic Silver 5 ,plenty of times ,all directions ...
P5111263.JPG

Well ,two are installed ...
Break for lunch ( at 01:45 local time ...That's AM....)
And then the other two ....
Then the Thermistor installation ,to follow ...
And THEN ........go to sleep.....For couple of hours ,until sunrise ....
