a pack of good cigarettes in the several states ive been too is 10$. dont assume everything is just automatically cheaper in the us ;) price wise most shit is pretty comparable. of course certain states are cheaper!

buy cartons on the rez if youre near one its like 30$ tax free for a carton of cigs thats what i used to do

honestly tax on alcohol and cigarettes dont bother me.
Yeah, a buddy of mine in NJ (I work there a bit) pays around that if I remember right. I don't smoke but I know the odd smoker that buys them off the reservations, no tax, smell like shit, even worse than branded cigs :) In general cost of goods tends to be cheaper but different state by state like taxes. I spend quite a bit of time in the US, sister's in Mississippi and brother's in Florida. In general consumer goods tend to be less in the US but a lot of that is volume, 10x the population and all that. All in, it's probably around the same cost of living but while I don't mind visiting the US, I'll stay here :)

i dont smoke anymore but when i did i did find it was same price where i was buying from
i find AK is pretty comparable with canada, so was NY.
MI was pretty cheap compared to canada.
Gas however is cheap in the states thats one thing ive noticed no matter where i was in USA the gas is wayy cheaper than Canadas like not even on the same football field lol

I assume, (big assumption) the further south though the cheaper things get.

if we just talk groceries for a hot minute they are pretty crappy compared to canada. lots of brands we have in canada i used to buy i no longer buy here, they seem to put a lot of high fructose corn syrup in everything so i pay special attention now when im buying a prepackaged good here. because what was safe in canada to buy is not here
but thats just personal preference on how i eat foods. i dont like things loaded with a bunch of shit it doesnt need lol

Everything is more expensive in AK and Hawaii except for local goods and NY is too I remember like 10 years ago cigarettes where $8 a pack but in NH it's under $6 still but there is a reason NH sells the most alcohol in the country probably cigarettes too from the neighboring states just nothing like North Carolina. But yeah our junk food is junk we get GMO high fructose corn syrup in most everything. They do sell maple syrup locally but I buy the Canadian shit because it's a lot cheaper and tastes the same to me.

Definitely a lot of pro's and cons even with US states.

The Nexus program is a quick travel for Canadians and Americans to go back and forth effortlessly, no passport needed my friend, come on up
What's that about? So I can visit with my family without passports? I will if I could been wanting to for years just figured I needed passports.

the nexus card program is a trusted traveler program
you will need to be clean as a whistle to get into it, its an agreement from both countries you are a low threat level so you can cross the border with an identification card
it costs 50$ (non refundable) , and you have to go to an interview for it and get your finger prints scanned. , so unless you live right next to a boarder, expect to have to travel to a nexus border location building, which could be hours from you.

i have a nexus and a passport, if youre gunna go through the damn trouble of getting a nexus card just get a passport.

you cannot fly with the nexus card unless you get the eye scan retina , and thats only available to do in like a few major cities.

the nexus program is way more invasive to your personal self than a passport is really
the interviewer goes through a lot of questions with you ,
they also do background checks on you, scan your finger prints and your retinas if youre at said location.
and they are more likely to deny you over any little thing youve done in life

i rarely eat junk food. but i have noticed some prepackaged foods i would normally be safe to buy in canada are not "safe" here because they are filled with a bunch of shit i dont wanna put into my body
so i dont buy them.
