The Lazarus Grow: my first grow in almost 18 years

Tonight I sexed plants and cut clones from the obvious females. The clones are in labeled ziplock bags with a bit of water in the bottom, and are in the bottom produce drawer in my fridge. If something extraordinary should show itself, I have a nice stash of cuttings stored away for future use.

I decided to pull the Trizzlerz auto out and take a good look at her. She is very stunted looking, and I overdid it with her fertilizer at transplant.

She isn’t due to cut for at least another three weeks, so she has plenty of time to fill out better. Those buds look interesting.

I also removed the unsexed white rhino, as I am fairly certain that it is a male. Plus, the room is getting a bit crowded and it was taking up valuable real estate.

Today marks the 8th week of veg, so it’s time to swap out the MH for a HPS and flip to 12/12. I had a spare 60w LED, so I threw it in there to help even out the canopy

Everyone is looking pretty good so far, although the White Rhino decided to shoot up too close to the light and I didn’t catch it until after the damage was done. It is still very early, so the plant has plenty of time to recover.

No signs of bugs, but I put some sticky traps in there to catch anything that might sneak in therr. I have been watering my plants from a bucket containing BTI mosquito bites, so that the soil gets treated every time I water.

Going very well as far as I can tell. I'd sure be happy if I could do that.
Good luck (following your journal). :bigjoint:
I think overall they are looking pretty good. I was very fortunate to start 11 seeds and get 10 females, too!

My biggest gripe is watering them. I have a monitor so I can keep an eye on temperatures and humidity levels, but I have been hand watering them as needed. They’ll be needing daily watering soon, so I really should build a gravity fed irrigation system to make it easier- I have whacked my noggin into the lights a couple of times and it sucks lol.

I used to have a simple but very slick watering system for this room. 12 flag emitter drippers, tubing, and a shutoff valve connected to a cat litter bucket. It worked great, didn’t cost much and was easy enough to install.

Where'd your drip system go? Reconnect that puppy if you can. Also, you
could set a timed valve on it, under some kind of gravity reservoir or your
garden hose spigot and it'd automate your watering. They're cheap, battery operated,
2*AAA alkaline batteries. Lemme look-see...

Ok, here's one:
RAINPOINT Sprinkler Timer, Programmable Water Timer for Garden Hose,
Outdoor Hose Timer with Rain Delay/Manual Watering System, Digital Irrigation
Timer System for Yard, Lawns, 1 Outlet Deal -25% discount $24.59. At amazon.

Then, i dunno, connect it to a hose connection that adapts to your drip tubing. like this one:
Yulaiyoen Drip Irrigation Hose Connectors,1/4 Inch Drip Irrigation Tubing x 3/4 FHT Swivel
Garden Faucet Adapter, Convert 3/4" Garden Hose to 1/4" Drip Pipe for Irrigation Kits (3-Pack), $9.99.

Probly they're at your local garden store or HomeDepot, too. But sheesh, again, I am not a grower.
But i have installed drip systems like these for veg gardens several times. Never really had a prob.

My old drip system got trashed years ago, sadly. I’m hand watering for this grow, but if I decide to keep this closet running cannabis only I might set up another one. The components are cheap and relatively easy to find and install.

In fact, buried somewhere out in my shed I actually have a bunch of irrigation stuff. I had been planning to install a rain barrel and drip irrigation for my landscaping and all the different flower and garden beds, but then my health went downhill and I never got around to it.

So, we’re a week into flowering and the stretch is on. These guys are going to be pretty good sized, I think, I just hope they bulk up. They should start to kick into gear once they’re done stretching, which should be fairly soon.

Once the stretching is over, I will hit them with GH nutrients to boost the phosphorus levels in order to help promote flowering (nitrogen isn’t as critical because the plants should be done growing vegetatively).

One plant is almost ready to cut, the Trizzlerz auto by Twenty20. She’s actually due to chop April 5, but I might take her down a bit early so I can have something to smoke for 4/20. I’ve been out of weed for a LONG time!

I'd advise going to the dispo for a 8th rather than chop early, but uh...your state has no dispos. :(
She’s basically done at this point, though the lower growth is still finishing up. I don’t think this plant will be adding more than a few grams in 5 days, so I’m not really going to miss out too much. It’s a very stunted plant and the yield is going to be low, I don’t think a few days will make much difference.

My main harvest won’t be until nearly JUNE, which is a lot longer than I am willing to go without my meds! If I had a friend in Oklahoma I could go get it there, but I don’t…and driving to either Missouri or Colorado is just too expensive and risky for me.

I’m eagerly anticipating a toke of my own making, too. Truth be told, that’s probably the main reason why I’m considering an early chop. Shitty overpriced ($300 an oz!!) Walmart weed just doesn’t do it for me anymore, my friend.

Is it that little short one in the 4th pic, Trizzlerz? That looks tasty to me. Small, but i bet it's good.
Oh, it's an auto. Don't those things grow really fast, but they can be smallish sometimes? I never really
grew, i must've said that.

OK? There's a guy here from OK. Just sayin'. All i've smoked in the last 6 years has been dispo
(Walmart :finger:) stuff. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but it's always harsh, and i just don't get that high on it.

I didn't smoke for some 25 years, until it was legal back when. And just not any of that fancy-named, exotic, nice
smelling, good looking bud has really done it. I've tried 5 diff tinctures, or more, some extracts,
ounces of nugs, kief, edible, all kindsa stuff, u'd think somewhere, i'd get a good buzz, but not really. It's
fun trying, I guess. I guess we liked some acapulco gold they had, and maybe some Herer.

I got a oz from a place a couple months ago, and they grow mostly med cannabis, but had this uh, THC stuff,
that he said would work, but it's about the same as all the rest. It was $150.00. 8-balls are around $35.00.
Yeah, I wish i knew some of these RIU growers.

Back in the old days, jeeze...the last stuff we had was some colombian green, that I got busted for sales of
a quarter oz. That was in the 90s, ya see. But I had about 3 oz left, and once that was smoked up, no more
for me. SHEEIT that was nice smoke. Great high, not harsh, great taste. Or back in the 80s, my sis came over
from HA w/some Kona gold, fabulous taste, really resinous, but too smoooooth cuz you'd take more than
2 or 3 hits, and u were just a tad too high. Great stuff to sample. And hell, the 80s skunk was great, and
choc colombian, colo gold, what else? Mostly it was just Mex brick weed. I thought this new stuff'd be way
better nowadays. Kinda disappointed.

Well, if you chop that auto, you'll be ready for 420, just perfectly. Good luck w/it all. :bigjoint:

Yea, she’s an auto- actually she and Dirty Martini are both autos, though they are as different as night and day. I’ve never grown autos before, so I made some mistakes…namely, leaving it in a solo cup too long/not starting it in its final container to begin with.

Trizzlerz is a frost bomb, but Dirty Martini seems to favor the sativa side a bit more. It’s almost as big as the regular photoperiods, with super skinny leaves. I’m curious to see how it compares with the others, though honestly it’s going to take almost as long to finish as the regular ones so I’m not really seeing the point, you know?

I grew up smoking seedy Mexican brickweed. Stuff was pretty much all you could get, unless you found some ditchweed (which wasn’t an improvement lol). I still think the Mexican stuff would have been freaking awesome if it had been treated with more love. I occasionally got some that would sit you on your butt, but it wasn’t common.

Probably around the mid to late 90s was when KB/kind bud/skunk made the scene here. My god, the difference between the two was unreal. I won some 1981 roadkill skunk seeds on another forum, and I am super curious to see what they do. I also was gifted a few very precious 2004 landrace Mexican seeds, though how well they do in a closet is anyone’s guess.

This is a fantastic hobby and I greatly enjoy it. I smoke too much weed to afford regular 8-15 hour round trips to buy old mids from a dispensary. I’m skipping the middleman and doing my own thing.

Best of all, once I find something that I really like, I can breed it and try to improve it for myself. I have some pretty good genetics to play around with, and I have a good idea of what I want to achieve.

I do believe that. What if a grower grew brick as sensemilla. I kind of favor sativa.
Boy I'd love to try a grow as a bucket list anyway. I'd get into trouble, tho, for sure.

Seedy, speaking of which, I planted some seeds to test, last week. I even got pix in here
somewhere of my solo cup. They were the smallest seeds i ever saw. But out of 15, I think
i have 3, and 1 leggy, sprout. I wonder, should it be in like a 20/4 light exposure,
or...? Right now it's pretty much on 24 hrs. The one sprout's about 3", just cotyledon is out...
My wife says to fertilize. And oh, it's under a window during day time and a 12W table
lamp at night. Nothing fancy, just testing, not gonna grow them out. I must have a couple
hundred seeds from this type, which I think might be Mexican, since that's who gave them to me.

I must've asked her for some buds too, after I got some of her male plant with no seeds, of course.
It was 7 years ago, I can't remember that far. LOL And it was the first i'd toked in 25 years too.
And i didn't get high, either. Still got some of it, fwiw. Heh, what if it's good stuff. I'd take more
pix, but stoopid MS Win10 updated and screwed my old Canon cam's ability to transfer image files.

The stretching and skinny stems mean they are struggling to reach the light. They really don’t need fertilizer yet, those cotyledons will produce enough food to get them established. Once they develop their second set of leaves, they can get quarter strength nutrients.

If they are old landrace Mexican seeds, they might be valuable to someone doing strain preservation. You might consider donating them, since it’s a shame to lose decent genetics.

Week two of flowering, and I think the stretch is finally starting to slow down. I probably should have taken off more of the lower branches, but I might dust them with pollen from my bizarre mutant male:

My girls are looking pretty good, but I am doing a bit of rearranging tonight after I take the Trizzlers auto out of the room. She’s basically done and I need the space she’s occupying:

I found a convenient spot to hang Trizzlers up, and there she’s going to stay for a while. It’s pretty dry, so hopefully she’ll be ready to trim and jar in a week or so.

I cut off some lower branches from the mutant male and rigged up a way to catch the falling pollen on waxed paper without any disturbance from air currents. It’s just two humidity domes from a couple of seed starter trays:

The ladies with the lights off. I’m going to hit everyone with bloom booster nutrients, since they are just about done stretching and should be kicking into full bloom soon.

E6FAAF78-2DB9-4313-AA46-99782D5C9780.jpeg
I also hit a couple of lower branches on the White Rhino with a tiny bit of pollen from the QAR mutant. It’s a full moon, so who knows what kind of magic will happen.
