This has been a long time coming, and lord how much I have missed it!

I really want to thank everyone who helped me get started again, too. I couldn’t do this without you.

Here’s the lineup of star players:

I let it soak a while to activate the mosquito bits, then stir it up and dump it over a block of coir to rehydrate it.

For 12 solo cups of seedlings, I will mix this with seed starter mix and vermiculite: 6 parts coir, 5 parts seed starter mix, 1 part vermiculite (I use one of the cups as a measure, so it comes out evenly.)

I’ve never been fond of time release nutrients
Maybe I’ll learn otherwise
Welcome to RIU :weed:
Thanks! This isn’t my regular forum (I “grew up” on the original Overgrow) but I like the layout and the folks here seem nice.

Believe it or not I have had lots of luck using this with my other plants. I’m curious to see how it turns out.

Hey @Hippiechik – long time no grow! Hard to believe OG has been gone since 2006. Doesn't seem that long ago . . .

Here's a tip: this is the best organic fungus gnat control I have found – https://milehydro.com/product/tanlin/

You will still get gnats, but Tanliln targets the grubs that eat the roots in coco (and soil). This stuff works, is entirely natural, and a little goes a long way. Just yell out if you need any more help.

White Rhino – another blast from the past!

Subbed.

I remember you! Weren’t you on the original PlanetGanja? I never got into the whole shark tank thing, but I swear until the day I fucking die I will hold a grudge against “Ethical Grower” for making me freak out and trash my entire grow. I hope karma pays him a visit.

I have Mosquito Bits, which are the same as the Mosquito Dunks- just crumbled. I think they really do work. The active ingredient in them is the same as tanlin, I believe- B.t.i. (I am not 100% sure about that though)

White Rhino – another blast from the past!
Heck yeah it is- and I really really want to do a true Lazarus grow by bringing my old mambagum seeds back to life. Do you remember those babies?? Black Mamba x Bogglegum

Rezdog sent me the Mamba beans, and BOG gifted me the Bogglegum and some LifeSaver. Freaking best birthday I ever had, you should see the stash box Gypsy sent me, it’s beautiful!

I miss the spirit of the old Overgrow. There was so much knowledge, too.

‘Gratz, and thanks for the walk down memory lane. It’s hard to believe how many people are gone now- Bog especially, he was just the coolest old fude

So here we go (again). I took a cup of water and microwaved it until it was almost boiling, then added a quarter teaspoon each of molasses and brown sugar, plus a pea-sized amount of Clonex gel, and stirred it all up until it dissolved.

I divided the solution into four 50ml portions and dumped each one into a separate cup. Into one cup I also added the tiniest amount of gibberelic acid- maybe enough to cover the tip of a toothpick. Into each cup I also added about a quarter teaspoon of 3% H2O2.

I then placed three of the best looking seeds from each cross into a separate cup. The seeds will remain in this solution until they sink, and then I will extract each one, rinse it, and move it to a damp paper towel for further development and observation.

Cup #1 (+ gibberelic acid)
([Black Mamba x Bogglegum] x AK47) x (Black Mamba x Bogglegum, trifoliate)

Black Mamba was originally gifted to me by Rezdog, and Bog gifted me the Bogglegum. (I got the AK47 pollen from someone from Overgrow 1.0.)

The trifoliate was a cool plant that I really liked and was playing around with. I intended to cross the best offspring from this to the next one below (cup number 2)

Cup #2

[Black Mamba x Bogglegum, trifoliate] x Apollo 11, Genius cut

I got the Apollo 11 pollen for this (and the AK47 used to make the previous seeds) from another Overgrow member and bred it to a trifoliate Black Mamba x Bogglegum clone from the same mother as the one above.

Cup #3
Chimera’s C4

Chimera was kind enough to gift me these beans. I picked a delicious pine pheno from one of these, and used it to make:

Cup 4

[(Black Mamba x Bogglegum) x Apollo 11] x (C4 x AK47)

So… that’s what’s soaking now. I’m so excited, but I’m also pretty realistic and don’t have very high expectations.

Update:

All the seeds have sunk, so it’s on to the next step: germination

I used a spoon to carefully remove the seeds, and put them in a glass of room temperature fresh water and gently stirred them up.

I then placed all three seeds of each cross (12 total) on top of a paper towel that had been folded into quarters and placed in a quart ziplock bag and moistened with a teaspoon of peroxide in 16 ounces of water, plus a tablespoon of the soaking solution mixed in. I used a little spritz bottle to just moisten everything, and then gently breathed into the ziplock bag to inflate it a bit and put it on top of the rack in a sterlite container to keep the drafts out.

I also decided to start some of the newer stuff, too, and used the remaining soaking liquid to water each planted seed.

Now the waiting begins. This is a new moon, and a supermoon at that, so I am hoping that it will help. But this isn’t any ordinary supermoon; it’s the closest the moon will be to earth in the past 992 years, as well as the closest it will be for another 345 years!

So far none of the old seeds have done anything, and I am starting to see fungus growth. I’m pretty sure the paper towels are contaminated.

I don’t really know what to do at this point. Should I try to rinse them in straight h2o2 to kill the mold, or what?

My other seeds, the new ones, are actually sprouting. I decided to move them under the 1k so they wouldn’t stretch, plus the warmth from the light should help them grow.

We had a stretch of pretty cold weather, so I lowered the lights to keep everyone warm. I am glad I did, because the stretching would be much worse.

I figured this light would be adequate for newly sprouted plants, but I was apparently wrong. The light is maybe 6” away, which should be sufficient to fry them, but you can see what’s going on.
Also, check out this little yellow mutant! It’s a white rhino, and I will probably have to cull it, but for now it’s chugging right along.

As you can see, there is absolutely no way that this kind of light will be sufficient to veg and flower these guys. That’s a pretty big problem. I was told that this kind of light was the equivalent of a 1000w HPS, which it plainly isn’t.

Looks like I am going back to the basics: ditch the LEDs and reinstall HPS lights like I had before. Two or three 400w HPS in that closet (and a ventilation system) will grow some serious nugs

So I'm in about the same boat as you are. I just did my first grow in about 15 years. The led thing is kind of a learning curve. I've got an old 100 watt mars hydro in my veg tent. It's been awesome for seeds and clones but isn't worth a damn for flowering. I tried it to sex plants with it and after about 12 days still no sex. I asked a buddy and he said it was probably not enough orange/red spectrum. I put them under the hps and they show in about a week. I run a 600 hps/mh in my flower area with a 125 watt flowering led for a little supplemental light. It seems like the led in the flowering area makes the stalks more woody and makes more biomass. I'm probably going to get another led for the flowering room to run when it's warm outside. (no ac in my flowering area) I still like to finish off the buds under a MH. It seems like they get a bit more terps. I've tried lots of led grown bud and they just don't seem to have the kick to it. Your plants are looking pretty good. Welcome back to the growing world.

What light is that?
what’s your temps and feeding ?
they look hungry ?
It’s a sf1000d and it’s a pretty good light for lettuce, but these little rascals have been under it from the beginning and they just don’t seem happy.

They’re only a week old so they haven’t been given their first real feeding. The potting mix has fertilizer in it.

I just don’t have the money to keep buying expensive new equipment, sadly. These lights were what I had expected to use for this grow, and clearly they’re just not powerful enough.

So, the LEDs are going to be supplementary to the HPS, or moved to the hydroponics rack in another room. They are still good quality lights, but I need more light than what they can produce.

This room was dialed in very nicely before, and it can surely be dialed in again.
