The King Grows

You did a nice job with the mylar, or whatever that is.

Thanks @snow, unfortunately I learned how to hang it as I did the room. It started off with a few really poorly hung sheets before I learned a couple tricks to lay it flat.

It is 6mil diamond cut mylar. I can't recommend it enough. $114cdn for a 100'x4' roll and it is very durable.

Ok first off for anyone who was following this journal, sorry for not updating anything in a long time. Life got real busy and the grow room got put on the back burner until I knew I would be able to give it the attention it would require.

That day is here. I recently got my Quest dehumidifier and the rooms ready to grow. All testing is done and I have germinated 5x Ripper Seeds Fuel Og and 5x Pyramid Seeds Black Cherry Punch.

All the seeds were germinated in damp paper towel inside zip lock sandwich bags and kept warm on-top of my satellite reciever.

Tonight the seeds were planted in 4" pots with a 60/40 mix of Promix HP/Perlite. They were watered with plain RO water and placed in the grow room with lights dimmed to 50%.

I was only going to use one light at this point but needed all three to keep temps around 74⁰f.

So I had 10 seeds, got all 10 to crack in paper towel and planted them in Promix and within 72hrs all but one have sprouted and shed their shells. The tenth might still come up but it makes no difference to me. All I wanted was 4 of each strain to grow out and I have that plus one extra that I will cull at a later date.

Temp: 74⁰f
Humidity 72%
CO² is off starting Monday. Currently 800-450ppm
VPD w/-2⁰ leaf temp. 0.7-0.9kPa
Lights two of three on at 40%

Here are a few pics. Nothing spectacular yet. CO² gets picked up and added on Monday.

Germanation is done. Had 9 of the 10 seeds come up. One of the nine that came up looks stunted or sick ....not sure what it's deal is but it's gone now.

This leaves me with 4x Fuel OG and 4x Black Cherry Punch.

Going to call everything up to today the Germanation/Sprouting stage.
So Feb. 7th to the 11th was germation/sprouting.

Seedling stage will be the 12th to .......

I don't consider the germanation or seedling stages part of my veg stage. I start veg once I see the first set of 5 tip leaves. By that time rooting should be well established and gives me a more accurate timeline to compare future grows with.

Just a little update.

The seedlings are growing nicely. Nothing crazy still just one leaf per plant but that leaf is getting noticeably bigger throughout the day.

I added about a half strength dose of Green Planet Root (rooting additive) and Vitathrive (micro nutrient) to them today, they didn't react badly to it so they must have liked it.

I also added CO² at 850ppm and the dehumidifier was also installed today. The room is getting pretty automated now.

Current Parameters:
Temp: 75⁰f
Humidity: 68%
Leaf surface temp: 72⁰f to 73⁰f
VDP: 0.7kPa to 0.9kPa
CO²: 850ppm
Lights: 60% power
Par: ~280ppfd (using phone app, not sure of accuracy)

Hey nice looking setup u got going. I wanted to let u know that I’ve got the Photone app and it was spot on accurate with my old IPhone 11. Then I replaced with a new IPhone 13 and it’s way off.
I use a HLG 320 led and I was checking my intensity the other day. It seemed too low. So I went to the local hydro store and tested it with the meter they had, which was a nice one. I think it was an Apogee. Anyway, we tested multiple lights and distances and it was consistently 30-40% low. I remember one spot the ppfd from the Apogee was in the 900’s and my phone was reading in the 600’s.
It’s taken me some trial and error to get dialed in to that light.
Anyhow, I saw Alberta as your home and it brought back some memories and prompted me to jump in. I live in Va and made the trek to northern Alberta about 8yrs ago. Hunting trip to the Upper Peace River and I’m really wanting to go again…..never imagined such a vast place. Great trip for sure. Good luck I hope to see some Alberta buds in a few months.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. I tried the photone app and didn't really find it that user friendly. I have been using "Ppfd Meter". I want to get the Trolmaster Ppfd meter but it's like $500. It's just gonna have to wait. Would be nice to have it for the flower cycle though.

As for the hunting, I know the area you are talking about. I work in Grande Prairie and it's not too far from there. Amazing hunting all around that area.

Have you considered the pulse pro meter?

First set of 3pt leaves are on all the babies now. Slowly bringing light levels up and currently at 65% on two of three lights, the third is off.

Everything seems to be going good so far. The only thing that has me scratching my head is that the humidity rises back up when the lights are off quite quickly after the dehumidifier shuts off. I am fully aware of how humid rooms can get with the lights off but these small tiny 8 plants shouldn't be able to keep my humidity levels up so high.

Basically the dehumidifier cuts the humidity levels as soon as it kicks in. Then shuts down for 5 minutes and kicks in for a minute or two then shutdown and repeats all night long.

Not sure why my humidity levels come back up so quickly, wonder if it could be the weather outside .....but it's a sealed room? I don't see any condensation anywhere? Evaporation from soil/plants? I don't think they would be capable of creating that much humidity right now? Could it be the dehumidifier reaches its lower cut off set point before the entire room humidity has actually been cut down everywhere? Hmmmm.........

Btw this is my first sealed room, so I am expecting to run into issues I have never delt with before. Any suggestions?

So I was called back to work a week early.:wall:
I had planned on transplanting the girls in another 5 or 6 days but because I will be working I had to do it tonight because I leave for work tomorrow morning.

Definitely not the best time to be transplanting them as I feel they are to young to be disturbing the fragile roots but it had to be done.

My wife agreed to help me with LST, watering and pruning but that's it and I am thankful she is willing to do that. She has her own hobbies.

As for the transplant, I started by putting the copper root barrier on the bottom of the autopots. Then added a few inches of expanded clay pellets around the autopot air domes.

Then I mixed Promix HP with perlite at a ratio of 2 parts Promix to 1 part Perlite. I then mixed in a few gallons of ph adjusted RO water to keep dust down and mixed the hell out of it.

I then filled the Autopots with the mixture and watered it with water containing only Green Planet Root and Vitathrive additives.

After the pots were watered, I transplanted the seedlings into the Autopots. I water first so I can confirm the saturation of the Promix when I transplant. PXL_20220219_032336385.jpg

So I drove the 1,000km to work. Kinda sucked since the last 600km was in blizzard conditions.

The seedlings look like they didn't stress at all from the early transplant. They kept growing and look pretty sweet. The nodes are stacking tight with little to no stretching. I am pretty sure the node spacing with the SF4000's are out doing my previous hid setups.
