The HK Journey

Today was a nightmare! I know some of you were looking forward to this day and i know who you guys are but anyways... This morning i decided to harvest another plant because my first one harvested is so good. I picked my finest looking plant with the largest cola. I am checking her out closely and i notice something doesn't seem right. The cola is hard and looks great, but has a tiny soft spot and upon closer inspection i discover that this HUGE ass cola had been hit by the mold army. FUCK! The thing looked perfect! I had no choice but to discard that beautiful monster cola. I probably could have salvaged some but didn't want to risk it. I smoked a couple dubies to calm myself down and so i could continue on with my day. All the smaller buds on the plant look good so trimmed them up and hung them to dry.

Now i am worried so i go into my grow room and chop my second largest cola and examine it closely. This mother fucker looks great!.. until i cut it open to check out the middle that i was worried about. FFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKKKK!!! NO! NO! NO! NOT ME! WHY ME? This second largest cola had also been hit but nearly as bad as the first, a very small portion was salvaged. I was very picky about what i kept, only part of the cola that was a reasonable distance away and i didn't keep anything that i wouldn't personally smoke. Well that got me really excited so after a few more dubies i went and chopped the remaining colas and thank god they are fine.

I am assuming this happened because of the, very large dense colas + high humidity, but am not 100% sure. My humidity was around 55 - 65% through out the flowering stage. I continue to smoke dubie after dubie because this shit has me stressed.
ive followed your journal and you took all the percautions,55-65 humidity is not high, were the buds against the wall,i cant figure out why you got mold when you took care of all details,i wonder if it could of come from the walls, not sure how that works with plants.

Larger denser clas do have a tendency to catch mold easily. The humidity of the grow area is not always a good indicator of the humidity within the buds themselves.

I have never suffered this, yet. I also live in a humid country. I keep my lights close (as i use 400's I can get very close, maybe 5"), which helps as I have a low ceiling height for flower. I get a bit of burn at the very top of the plants sometimes (especially during the stretch phase) but this never seems to affect them.

I like to have two fans, one set up high blowing between lights and plants, and one down on the ground blowing from underneath the stems.

Well I have a feeling that my humidity may have been climbing during the dark cycle when the ventilation is not running and the air is still. I had my light about 7" from the tops for most of the grow. Like skunkushybrid said larger denser colas do have a tendency to catch mold easily. I don't think over crowding was a problem because i have seen people stuff way more in to a space like mine and my soil would dry quickly ect.. I will be very careful with my next crops.

Fantastic grow, with the exception of the mold there at the end. Have you harvested all the plants and what was the final yield? Would love to see some pics of the dried buds and detaila on how the smoke is. bongsmilie

Man that totally sucks. I'm glad that you "only" lost a portion. I went on vacation for a little over a week, came back and my "trusty assistant" had let my lights fall onto the babies. When I came in and saw them he said they had fallen down the prior weekend; that was 6 days before. 14 blueberry babies are in serious jeopardy because of his lack of caring for my damn plants. I think about 6 of them are dead but most of the rest might make it.

Yes i finished up on the harvest yesterday. Most buds have been drying for three days, some 2, and some just over 24 hours. The first plant that i harvested over 1 week ago yielded me over 2 oz of beautiful looking sensimilla, and the smoke is great. I will let you guys know what i yield off of these four plants after they dry.

Here is a pic of a bud from the plant i already harvested, i took the pic right before i burned...

Hey Toke...mold sucks don't it. I had the same problem with my
BB harvest. I cannot credit the mold to humidity because mine was
on the lower sides of 40% most of flower.
I might have to suggest that a lack of air-flow (over crowding)
caused my mold and due to your similar enclosed set-up, this could
be the culperate.
also have you looked up to see if hk is mold resistant. my sensi star i grew outside, well it doesnt seem to like low temps and high humidity. botrytis is nasty. then i found out SS is mold and pest subseptible...peace

The buds are all dry now and i started the curing process a few days ago (except for the first plant harvested, it's long gone smoked). When i harvested the remaining 4 plants i didn't bother to separate them because i didn't have enough boxes or time for messing around with that, i had a shitload of bud to trim. So i don't have individual plant yields, i just have the lump some. I basically only kept buds that would be 1 gram or more dry and the rest of the small buds will be used for hash and oil, a few nice tight .5 buds did sneak their way in though. From the 4 plants i yielded 210 grams quality bud and the first plant was 63 grams after i smoked some, so that's 273+ grams total. This is with the loss of my 2 largest colas. If it wasn't for the mold i bet had about 3/4 of a pound.

Just read through your whollllle thread lol, all 28 pages word for word!!! lol

amazing grow mate, makes me want to try harder as im currently carrying out my first grow, i got 4 plants atm 2 got there first leaves this morning at 3 days old (after sprouting) the other 2 were planted yesterday but i hurt one of the babies today when i was sorting out my lights and the seed shell dropped of, but it seems to be doing ok, the other one is still underground.

Just wana say again great grow!

How much in dry weight do you think you lost to the mould

also im new to the growing, what is a cola lol? im assuming a massive bulk of bud but thats just a guess lol
