Nice first post there captain random. What the hell does any of that have to do with Hempy Buckets?

well nothing but i wanted to express the healing properties of herbs to different parts of the community

many great ancient culture's ate different kinds of plants through trade
but the most curious question is how did a specific culture evolve through the consumption of these great herbs

i might start a thread on these subjects

It's considered bad etiquette to go off topic in a thread. If you want to share about something not related, find the appropriate place and start a new thread. Forum etiquette 101. Cheers.

... so i have been thinking about using a bit of 'wick system' to get the bogged plants to root into the reservoir faster... like buying some cheap cotton rags for car care and cutting them into 1 inch strips... then cutting the bottom off the 16 oz. cups and putting a couple inches into the side of the cup between plant and container and dangling this down into the HB reservoir while bogging the plant into a 3 gal pot. Any opinions as to wether or not this piece of cloth would do any 'wicking' and ease/hasten the roots delving into the lower reservoir ?

Did you have much of a growth delay when you transplanted? My plants didn't have any problems making the transition. But I transferred from 44oz foam with pretty established roots.

I'm new here, I just joined.

I'm a hempy bucket grower and I thought I'd check in.

I been growing the last 2-3 years, and Hempys for the last year about. I use 75/25 pearlite/Verm. In 8qt trash pails from kmart. I just switched from FF nutes to Lucas formula with GH bloom and micro

Nice thread AZ. I didn't read it all, just like 50 pages or so.

Cheers,

Alright guys i have a little problem It seems that some white mold started growing around the edge of my hempy buckets in the perilte/vermiculite mixture. What should I do? Should use some hydrogen peroxide?

A little about my opp. I started 3 bagseeds into hempy buckets they are under 1 27 watt daylight cfl for each plant and they are about 3 weeks old and I have feed them half strength ff grow big hydro nutes for about a week now and im about to bump them up to full strength. The plants look good im just worried about the mold. I already scooped away the moldy stuff. Any tips?
thanks

I am about to start a hempy grow next week with some ak-47 and some power skunk. I have been reading alot but I think there seems to e a conflict somewhere which I hope you can help. I read we should get a container where for each month you have a gallon so if your plant cycle is 3 months, you should have a 3 gallon pot (eventually). But when I read these, several peope veg in a cup then flower in a one gallon pot. Is this implying that these plants cycle is maybe 6 weeks total?

I have read about 60 pages here and I am excited to start. I will start a grow journal with pics for all to see

thanks in advance gang

No, you still have an 8 week flower, 4-6 week veg cycle.

People start out in small containers and transplant to larger ones for a couple different reasons.

First, light and space efficiency. You can fit more 16-32oz cups under a light than you can 1-2g pots. It saves electricity and space if you have 16 plants in cups underneath 1 light rather than having them in 2g pots underneath 2 lights.

Also, with this method the plants don't actually see rapid growth until the roots reach the reservoir. Obviously the roots will reach the bottom of a 16oz party cup faster than they would a 2g pot. So the theory is you have rapid growth quicker if you start small and transplant.

In my current grow I started out in cups and then transferred to 10qt buckets. Transplanting with hempy buckets was kind of a pain and didn't result in my plants growing more rapidly than my first hempy grow. Therefore, I think starting in the container you plan on finishing in is the way to go.

Check out my current hempy grow if you like. Link is in my signature. Good luck future fellow hempyist!

THseaman, thanks for your advice. Let me make sure I understand.

I can start in foam cups, I will most likely start with six plants 3 AK-48 white strain and 3 G13 Power Skunk (after they germinate, of course). I would water them daily (not alot) until I see them really growing (a week or two I guess). They will be under a 150W HPS light on a 18/6 cycle. I am guessing I will know when to move them and I can move them to a 10qt bucket (saw some at home depot).

I can cut the bottom and just put the plant into its new home where they will live thru veg and flowering. I would flower with a 250w or more likely a 400w.

I am veg in a room but flowering I will be in a tent 3x3x6 or something (Homebox S).

I know I have to use nutes (after three weeks) so I will start to research that now. I think I have my hands full so far.

Thanks for the help again.

Yes, you can start in cups and transfer. If you BOG(cut the bottoms off and transfer), just be careful not to cut any roots when you cut the bottoms of your foam cups. If you do a standard transplant, do it at a time when the plants haven't had any water for a couple days and the medium is a bit dry. I started in 44oz foam cups and transplanted after about 6 weeks, probably a little late.

lightly water your freshly sewn seeds about 3 times a day the first 7-10 days so that they don't dry out. Then start to cut back a little as they start to grow. Once they are established (3-4 sets of leaves) they will only need water once every 2-3 days.

I like to start giving them 1/4 strength nutes after the 3rd set of real leaves develop. Others on here are a little more conservative, find out what works for you.

THseaman, i cant thank you enuf.

Went shopping today and got some miraclegro perlite, foam cups, 2.5 gal buckets but i did not find any rockwool. I was reading on your grow journal that you had wished to start in those and wanted to heed that advice. I was also looking for some vermiculite to help me with the nute ignorance and maybe mic 3:1 or 4:1.

reading up on this, it seems to retain water so when I water, do I pour on the rockwool or along the sides so it fills the rez (or am I over analyzing)?

Yes, I personally think starting the seeds in rockwool or oasis cubes is easier and faster but you can plant the seed directly in the perlite too if you like. That's a preference thing. LIGHTLY water directly over and around the seed and when it sprouts, get all around the stalk. You don't have to worry about putting enough water in to fill the rez for a couple weeks. But make sure your seeds don't dry out, make sure the cube and/or perlite is always moist. If you start in cubes, When the roots stick out about 1" put them in buckets. As for buckets, check out the dollar store before you throw down $3 a bucket at home depot. You should be able to find both the standard perlite and the rockwool/oasis cubes at a local nursery or grow/hydroponics store.

Honestly, you might consider taking back that MG perlite and exchanging it for the standard stuff. MG perlite has had known issues of causing nute burn when combined with fertilizer. Unless you have a rapid growing sativa strain like NYC Diesel and plan on only vegging for 2-4 weeks and not using any nutes during the veg cycle, I'd say ditch the MG.

Hi,

I've been reading a lot and for quite a while and have finally started a hempy grow.

I have 2 plants in a 5 gal tub.
I vegged for 5 weeks and began flowering Jan 1st. Flowering is going fine but one of the plants is getting some yellow leaves but nothing major.

My questions/problems are with watering and nutrients.

I am using GH and following the recommend dosages which give me about 800ppm (using hanna meter). When I started flowering I added some epsome salt and molasses to the mix. 1 tsp per gal of each.

I mix about 3 to 4 gallons of "food" at a time and store it in a bin under the table and feed every 2 to 3 days. I noticed that the water started to smell a bit and think it may be the molasses going bad? so, I emptied the mix and flushed the bucket with pure water. I let the runoff go for a bit to flush out the water in the bucket.

I waited a couple of days and made a new water mixture of just GH nutes (650ppm) and feed the plants. When water started flowing from the hole it smelled bad, like dead fish or something. Is any of this normal?

Looks like my last post killed this thread.

Nah, this thread is on life support. Semi-comatose.

Are both of your plants females?

I have never used molasses and never have any bad smells from my buckets. I don't think you'll get much benefit from Molasses in a hempy bucket anyway, I think molasses feeds the beneficial bacteria and fungi in soil grows. If you are determined to use it, you might want to add it to your solution just before you water, so it doesn't sit around getting skunky. I would let nute solution run through your buckets until they don't stink. Maybe some H2O2 if it is persistent.
