My feelings were similar, but holding my thumb over the trichs for about a minute made them get stickier and melt together, which is when the pressing began.
Yeah I just reread everything and I got it...small amnt in palm..rest thumb on top of pile for few mins to warm up...begin pressing/kneading?folding..repeat..repeat..for 20-30 mins..I've even practiced the only french chef accent I can come up w and its pretty good actaully..."warm up my little baby trichomes...form into zee little ball of hash for daddy"...:)...ill report my experience tonight..thank u

I forgot to mention you all were talking about charas earlier in the thread. I made some charas for the first time a few weeks back after my last harvest, and it was the most flavor full, blondest hash I've made yet. I had just watched that strain hunters a week or 2 before and decided I wanted to try it. So when I harvested and began trimming, I very carefully, and gently(to avoid green material) "stroked" my fingers over the buds, and rolled them in my hand a bit. I found that if I brushed off any green material and hairs from my hand in between each bud I worked, that I was able to keep the resin building up completely clean. I continued this for about 6 hours of trimming the first night, and had resin "callouses" on all my finger that were very thick. I worked it off my fingers and pressed it in my hand a bit and was left with an amazing smelling and tasting ball of charas. I think the first night I may have gotten a few grams, the following nights I worked faster and was not as concerned about it and got less. After it dried over night in the ball I had made it would crumble if I tried to break a piece off or squeeze it, I assumed this had something to do with the resin profile, but perhaps Frenchy can shed some light on that. I may not have pressed it long enough, but it sure smoked nice and was a fun experiment in charas making!

Buds were still real nice cus I was gentle! I'm sure I could have gotten more yield if I had beat them up a little by getting trichs from the nooks and crannies, but I bet it would have been harder to keep it clean like it was. The bud still smoked good to, I don't feel like I took so much off that it hurt the potency much.

start with 2 gr or so, the trichomes will just stick together, press gently to start and apply slowly more pressure. Trust me, after only a few minutes the aromas and feel of your "melting "trichomes will let you know that you are going in the right direction

Got it man...thanks...I'm at work for a couple more hours but I've been practicing mentally visualizing the process and I think I got it...I did it once before but w out good instruction...I formed a ball dark on outside and light inside and it was nice tatse and smell...but I know now I didn't press n roll long enuf which means I prolly didn't heat it enuf either....I will do it again this evening but won't have sunshine to use as it will be dusk...will my palm facing close to a bulb on a lamp help the cause?

Charas, the most difficult, wasteful way to get your trichomes but what an unique taste and buzz. You seems to have done well enough recolting on your finger but if your Charas is crumbly the following day(s)/week(s)/month(s) after making it, you had moisture and/or leaves matter in it. Charas will stay sticky for years when really clean.

I wonder if the moisture could have came from my hands getting sweaty while I was doing, because that happened and the resin almost started to fall off at one point from the warmth. Charas certainly isn't going to be a regular adition too my routine, but it was fun to try, and be reasonably successful. I will be buying a portable washer, and the correct bubble bags very soon though. How do you feel about using flowers to make hash Frenchy? I run a single cola SOG style grow, and just don't produce tons of trim, but I wouldn't mind using a couple plants worth of flowers if I could realistically get a nice amount of hash off it. This is also the only way I could really get to taste the pure flavor of a few of my strains that I only have 1-2 in flower at a time.

Most certainly your sweaty hands were the cause of your moisture. It's fun but you need quite a few plants to make any quantity.
No my friend I do not work with buds because I got more trichomes per square/centimeter on sugar trims than on a bud. If you wanted to make butane/oil extract you would be able to get what is inside the actual vegetal mass, I cannot do that with water. It does not mean that you should not since you have not much of a choice but know that you are on the "loosing side" doing it.

I've recently been making alcohol extracted oil, which I find I can get a very clean amber oil if I wash it quickly rather then the usually shake and soak methods.Perhaps I'll try that on the buds, and just save up my trim for the IWE.

I knew you would enjoy, it is hard not to.
Your hash should smell like your flowers and with age it will take a slightly more spicy flavor.
