There's lots of aspects combined, big fish on light tackle Is a thrill and a half, you're out in the country with absolute peace and tranquility seeing different flowers and fauna.

The places it takes you, the people you meet and the sites you see are just some of the reasons.
I have great memories of this night what we'd call a red letter night :-)

I have great memories of this night I seen the most spectacular shooting star, the sky suddenly lit up like an arc welder lighting up the whole countryside and continued to burn until it was over the horizon, I've fished during meteor showers but haven't seen anything like that particular night.

And I landed a couple of sea trout :-) .

Is that an otter?

Bugs are a trip too. That butterfly with the spots that look like big eyeballs. Totally to scare away predators and look bigger. Nature's a trip.

Hell ya. You get it. The big guys are smarter. Fish aren't blind, and the smart ones test shit first. I'd do a 4# line with 2# leader for trout usually, and 6# line with 4# test for walleye, pike and that shit. But if I was strickly going for pike or muskee I'd use a steel leader. Those fuckers have some gnarly teeth.

Light tackle makes smaller fish fun, and bigger fish amazing.
We used to do a lot of spring crappie fishing until our honey hole got blown up on this damn internet . Size 6 jig head with a small emerald shiner. Mostly 4lb test . Pike , white and channel cats up to 15lbs or so . The pike would often get hooked in the bone between teeth , great fight . Some monster pickerel and big bowfin . You learn how to play a fish for sure .

My fishing buddy and I have been friends for 55 years , back in about '77 we started using 2lb test for stocked trout . People thought we were nuts until they saw our stringer . I've caught some surprisingly large fish on 2 and 4lb line . Pike , walleye , bass , trout. It's a hoot !
I've used 4lb nylon for grilse, not because I wanted to be daft but I couldn't cast a size 0/1 spinner with heavier nylon, I wasn't looking to have a tug o war with them so I was confident of landing anything that stuck .

These days I use braid so I get 18lb for the same diameter as 4lb maxima.

Lol 80# power pro braid and 100-120# flurocarbon leaders for muskie ;)
8# Andie/ 4,6,8# leaders for trout depending on where you're fishing and water clarity. (Float fishing)
10# with 6-8# FL leader for bottom bouncing
30# powerpro w/30lb fluro leaders for salmon spoon chucking... Wait Floro ? Fluro. Haha whatever I'm baked
Hmm walleye... Usually 15#pp and 12# fluro

Are hand grenades not acceptable tackle for pike? Asking for a friend whose afraid of those god damn teeth :bigjoint:
Muskie teeth/Gill plate is prob the sharpest thing I've ever been cut by. Deeep deeeep curved laceration. Happened to me twice. I also had one roll on me and my bulldawg hooked my thigh and came back out well he didn't stop rolling and it yanked right out of my skin. Got an insane infection had to get antibiotics the whole 9. It's not like you can keep fishing either you gotta go to the hospital asap to stop bleeding so a ruined day of fishing too :(

I've met the sharp end of a size 4 treble from a rapala thankfully the fish come off when I got hooked but it was still damn painful.
I cut the split ring and went to hospital, the hospital cut the front off and pulled it back the way.
They only use the equipment once then bin it so the Dr offered me the used kit with being a Fisher himself, I left hospital with a hook removed a pair of scissors 2 different types of tweezer and a pair forceps they're all handy tools between tying flies and fishing, every cloud has a silver lining :-)

I got a big salmon hook in my thumb. You could see the point under my thumbnail. Hospital burned a little hole in my nail, pushed the hook through. Cut the barb, and then pulled it out. So I've went through that drill too,

Cringe... Down the back of your nail ouch!
that sounds painful af, I at least was lucky enough to get it in my finger lol.
Since then I've made a rule that the closest I get to a hook is a forcep length away.

No it went in the bottom of my finger, but all the way to the nail. Sad thing is I wasn't even fishing. I was a kid and I had the idea to play that fish game they'd do at carnivals. But they use clothes pins.

I had friends cast over the fence and I was attaching a rubber shark. Well I accidentally kinda tugged on the line when I was putting it on, so they thought that meant fish on, lol. They set the hook on my thumb, :dunce:.

Love to see the kids out fishing! Keeps em busy and away from other stupid stuff like the internet and social medias! Amazing life lessons, and bonding times! I remember all the time spent with my pops and my uncle fishing. I didn't necessarily appreciate it then but now that my uncle is gone those memories will be with me forever. I feel like I'm honouring his memory each time I'm out in those spots I fished with them as a kid. Priceless
