Was just about to start a new thread and ask what light meters everyone recommends? I would like to get an Apogee eventually but its out of my budget at the moment until I pay off some credit cards at least. Was going to just get the Hydrofarm for now but seems like the Apogee gives a lot more consistent results. But in the meantime I need something better than an app to help dial in my light height. What's the best option in the < $100 price range?

Dr Meter lux meter. there are $25 and $40 options on amazon.
Its not completely accurate with LED, but its been enough for me to dial in my hanging distances and dimming.

Do you feel like its a lot better than the apps? Not doubting you or @Rocket Soul, I seem to get pretty consistent readings from the app I use now, and figured something that cheap couldn't be that much more accurate? Do you then plug those LUX #'s into the HLG calculator app?
I am not sure how to adjust calculations for my V1 boards, for now I have just been subtracting 10% off the v2 numbers and throwing in my best guess to round it out.

I have the orange $40 meter and follow this with it and my plants have been fine.
I watch the plants and take meter readings when I see various conditions like burning, stacked nodes, or stretching.
Doing this over 2 grows gave me a good baseline with my 561 panels and showed me I could pretty much just follow the chart with my lights and be good.
- Clones and seedlings: 5,000–7,000 lux
- Vegetative growth: 15,000–50,000 lux
- Flowering: 50,000–70,000 lux

Both really. Ive not seen anyone demonstrate any difference. RN i would go with all white boards from KB and maybe add some qb11s for extrareds/blues/uv. Last time i checked this was better priced than whites + decent reds.
Remember that its just as bad paying too little for something (and getting bad quality) than too much (and getting ripped off).
I allways rec buying your drivers from somewhere you can return them if you have a problem.

Yeah but i like to be able to fine tune. Especially since the boards with extra red and uv isnt all that economic.

Hey guys I’ve just ordered 2x meijiu 240w, How high do you hang your lights at in flower? I’m a bit worried because I have low head room and I’ve read that these lights can be very intense, I’ve been using parabolic hps which u can get the lights pretty close. Thanks

Id say they are but not diodes that gone thru QC as perfect top bin. They might sometimes be top flux bin but not lowest voltage bin which brings down per watt performance a bit. Or maybe a little bit outside tolerance limits for spectrum.
They do work fine though. But i wouldnt expect too much aftersales support. Id still rec hlg v1 boards though if they are still cheap.
Just under 2 but that was with Fotop boards: low watts (30ish per squarefoot) spread out very well over the cannopy, 8-10" hanging height minimizing wall losses. But that grow we must have had some luck, even the hps section finished 1g/w which we usually dont get. The secret is to push all envelopes: get spread right, spectrum right (i prefer 2700k 90cri for flower), plant health and we had shit loads of co2.

Do you understand how this switch works? Is it just the reds and LM301s botg being on a CC driver, when turned off is still within the voltage range to where it runs the driver fine?

No idea. Not a big fan of switches as you cannot automate, prefer the separate strips. Also KB will let you customise somewhat if you do moq
