Lesson learned, reassess the condition of one's equipment before jumping to conclusions, lol. I still am glad to be filtering the extra calcium, and will continue to do that as best I can. Glad I'm not ph downing or anything, and that you guys convinced me not to mess with ph in the first place. :D

So, it turned out that my ph meter was pretty dirty... I had not noticed, but there was some mildew forming inside the cap and up inside the walls of the testing area. I took my electric toothbrush and dedicated a head to cleaning this thing... a bit of hydrogen peroxide and a scrub and my water reads like 6.8.

LOL.

good thing to know. is it an expensive meter? ive never used a meter and done alright without one. if funds are there i might scoop one up. besides that how is everything going Alt?!?!

It's a fairly low end meter... milwaukee something or other... I'll check later and get back to you...

Going alright but I am still losing leaves on my C99's to yellowing from the bottom up, in pretty much the same way that every plant I've grown has gone... but at least I've got clean water for them to drink now... still, it might be a bit late in the bigger picture of things, and I might have yet another crop seriously detrimented by what i suspect to be calcium build up. Oh well, live and learn...

Hmmm....get some pics up..Some specific ones if you can boss..

And what have you been doing as far as the teas goes?
Do you have any bagged compost? If so you need to start making some balanced teas I say bro.
If you don't have any bagged compost, I say you should get some...

Trying to think of what it could be...What you might be doing different to cause whatever the issue is..
And how far are along are you at this point?!

I'll be back in about an hour and a half bro, but can't throw in the towel tho. Gotta make things right boss :leaf:

Yeah I hear ya... just not feeling great this morning so optimism is flagging...

bagged compost would be a good investment probably. I made that tea brew you recommended but it didn't foam much and still smelled sorta fishy (like the seaweed emulsion stuff) so I wasn't sure whether or not I actually got a good brew...

My feedings have been inconsistent and perhaps not often enough... honestly it looks like my raspberry coughs are burning up from over-nuting while it looks like my C99's are suffering from lack... so I don't really know what's going on. I will get some pics of each of the bottoms for you later today.

I'm not sure exactly where I'm at time wise... I'll have to go back through the thread and figure it... I'm thinking around 3 weeks into 12/12 tho...

I am forgetting....was it:

Yellowing from the top down is hunger.
Yellowing from the bottom up is a deficiency.

I was sure that there was another line.

I have been too lucky so far (I do not know these signs yet).

Does anyone recall the mnemonic above?

Take care,

JD

Never bubbles for me boss, but I didn't get any yellowing with this crop until the final 2-3 weeks of existence. The foam doesn't indicate how good of a brew it is, and the kelp meal alone can make the teas smell fishy, so adding ANYTHING else ocean related is gonna add to that smell.

Sounds like pH problems...And you don't have to feed at all, so that shouldn't be any issue. Anything you feed them is just a bonus.
But cool bro.

Everything should stay ALL green till AT LEAST week 6 bro...Gotta be pH issue if you've got the same plants under the same regiment, doing different things....
I feel like a couple balanced teas could right ship...

I'm sorry for you bcuz you growing in the same thing as I did and I had no issues :?
Found a new replying style lol. Giving it a text run :joint:

Yeah, i don't know anymore man. I don't get why my ph would be whack. It just doesn't make any sense... there's no obvious explanation for why I would have ph issues at this point... the water seems stable... the soil mix is the same as yours. Like you said I shouldn't even need to feed!! Which is why I still suspect calcium build up locking out other needs. While I understand that it makes sense that it could be a ph problem, i just don't know what Ic ould be bdoing to cause it at this point.

I will keep going with the teas and see what happens... not much else I can do when I have no idea what could be causing a ph swing in the first place.

Here's some quick pics I snapped... don't have time to take them out so the color isn't perfect but it will give you an idea of what they look like... if you prefer to wait for better pics I will get some tomorrow morning...

but here's what's up:

C99s are doin this:
P1020634.jpgP1020635.jpgP1020637.jpgP1020638.jpgP1020639.jpg

While the Raspberries are doin this sort of thang... a lot of the leaves did not yellow before burning up, but they are also showing some yellowing now:
P1020636.jpgP1020640.jpgP1020641.jpg

Some top shots to show it's not all pain and suffering... but as you can well see, they're still far too young to be showing this much leaf drop:

Hmmm....How are they dying? Is this like the start of it?

And no necrosis? Just the purple stems kinda giving out?! Why do I feel like it could be Potash?

Try and find some compost ASAP bro. Brewing teas from compost will get you bennies in abundance, which will start working right away.
Don't really look like you can afford to lose any leaves damn!

I'm about to hit Amazon up tonight for some supplies for the next op..

But yeah man, see if you can find some bagged compost.

http://www.growweedeasy.com/potassium-deficiency-cannabis - Would explain what you think is a Calcium build up

Alright, I'll get my hands on some tomorrow before work.. there's a little grow shop right around the corner from the place i started. Went in yesterday to get worm castings... I think they had some good bagged compost...

And yeah, you can kinda see how it goes in that pic... the leaf in the back is more green but is showing the wear at the edges... then the whole leaf fades out like the one in the foreground... until the ends start shriveling like the upper right petiole shows... then it all shrivels.

now to find out how one builds up an excess of calcium maybe.

And the good thing is that a good balanced tea is a cure all, so you don't have to worry about treating something individually as much ya know?!
It's gonna have to be a cause an effect type problem you know...

And i don't have much experience with any issues other than Sulfur from Molasses, so I can't even say for sure thats your problem you know??

But I damn sure want you to succeed. To actually go beyond normal success..

Think I would be better off doing a heavy flush of just water, then waiting for next watering to do the brew? Or should I maybe dilute the brew so that I can get a lot of water flushed through WHILE adding the brew? Seems like I need to try to flush it in some way to get the calcium out...

Yeah... thanks man, I appreciate the help... I have to assume the excess calcium came from the hard water, as I said before. It's not super high ppm but it is hard, there is definitely scaling on our faucets and shit.

Hmmm....IDK about flushing...Maybe just go with the teas? But flush if you feel you should boss! I probably wouldn't, but we're in totally different spaces here, so thats on you.

First thing I found on Google with "calcium build up in soil" :leaf:

Purple edges on leaves with tips curling upward is molybdenum deficiency. Resembles light bleaching and/ or n def early on. Its from a lack of phos n sulfur. A guano tea with epsom salt will do the trick. Green sand will do it but slower. Any water soluble tomato plant food. Even cheap ones like Peters or Scott's will work.

Potassium lock out will have yellowish burned edges. Be droopy and curl downward. Its caused by too much Cal.

agree with hyroot. your issue is not def. its over fert/lock out.

also agree with him on the way to take care of it. trying to take care of a locked out nutrient "organically" means sacrificing yield. it also means sitting there waiting and using nothing but plain water, so you will have to stop feeding other nutes too.

Above^^^ gentleman are correct it's a def(I'm leaning towards K, moly def is RARE) and yes Organic ferts ARE SLOW acting ...........but as Hy says AACT's/teas are faster and should solve the issues before ALL the fan leaves drop:)

If your concerned about yield than a good balanced chem fert (20-20-20) should help immediately IF it's NOT a lockout...........be safe Altar
