Lesson learned, reassess the condition of one's equipment before jumping to conclusions, lol. I still am glad to be filtering the extra calcium, and will continue to do that as best I can. So, it turned out that my ph meter was pretty dirty... I had not noticed, but there was some mildew forming inside the cap and up inside the walls of the testing area. I took my electric toothbrush and dedicated a head to cleaning this thing... a bit of hydrogen peroxide and a scrub and my water reads like 6.8.
