Hey Everyone,

Just gotta start off by saying everyone is kicking ass with this Aerogarden thing.:hump: I got one myself, and hope to get some humble yields to support a quiet lifestyle.
The Aerogarden makes things look real easy.
But it seems like this thread has gotten really super complex!! I hope you all can understand where I'm coming from. But do I really need anything more than seeds and the basic garden supplies to have a harvest? Where I'm at it may be really hard to come by specific nutrients and whatnot. I was really hoping this would be a simple operation,... but the posts on this thread have really surpassed a raw beginners vocabulary.

Anyone be kind enough to direct me to a FAQ, or any compilation of the basics for getting a harvest? Heaps of good karma for you when I'm able to smoke out my friends!! :joint:

Thanks all,
:peace:

p.s. Here's my understanding so far...
1. Start seeds on salad setting until sprouted, then switch to Tomato. Use the corresponding Aerogarden nutrients.
2. Let em grow for awhile under tomato settings.
3. Keep 'em from getting to big by topping them a little, or hack the garden to accomodate a taller plant. Get some fans? More lights?
4. At some point, check if they're male or female (is this a good time to collect more seeds for future grows?)
5. Change the light settings, or wash the plants in darkness to encourage budding. Change nutrients? Tomato nutrients are no good anymore?
6. Let 'em bud, look out for buds that just drain energy from healthier sections.
7. When they reach maturity, harvest, dry, and cure?

This stuff grows wild, so how important is all that pH stuff really for your first yield? Is cloning too tricky with just one Aerogarden? I've read the first 30 or so pages of posts, but please forgive if I'm dragging up old issues. If this is all old stuff, please redirect me to the appropriate post!
Thanks again all!

The aerogarden nuts pretty much keep the ph in check for you. Be sure to us 1/4 - 1/2 the dose. Do not use a full dose of aerogarden nuts!

If you use the stock lights you will need to get a "figure eight cord" (do a search for figure eight cord) so that you can use a seperate timer for 12/12 flowering. Other than that you can pretty much grow with the AG and nothing else. Good luck and lets see some pics!

3 of the four hindui kush sprouted along with the 1 regular i pulled out (didnt want to take any nutes away from the kush) i also planted 1 more kush seed two days ago i figure if i end up wit 2 or 3 females out of 4 i'll be happy. anyone heard of these seeds from nirvana whats my chances of being able to do all four if they all turn up females...or is that a slim chance anyways...they also opened the first set of leaves already the sprouts are only about a inch and a half high at the most..... i've been putting drops of te aerogarden water on the sprouts a couple times daily. leaves all look healthy. the roots dont seem to penetrate through the sponge or should that take a few more days...any suggestions? pics tommorow. happy labor day...

seeds that autoflower and you do not have change your light time and if you run it for 18 hours you should maybe get good size buds.. you can buy them online just do a search for them this is all I know

Thanks for advice Kushtown, yeah, I'm just peeking in on my seeds every free moment. Can't wait to see some sprouts, and I hope they're female. (Seeds are actually a little hard for me to come by, so I wouldn't mind making my own.) We'll see how things go, I've just got 2 pods going right now... maybe that's too conservative, but someone said you shouldn't try for more than 2 in the AG. Again thanks for the tip on cutting back on the AG nutes. I'll do that from now on once they sprout.
Peace.

In my opinion you will at the very minimum want to get more lights. You can get cheap CFLs that should do the trick.

I've been growing with AG nutes ( two of the small tablets every two weeks) for 5 weeks now, and all my plants look wonderful to me. I think I'm going to stick with the AG nutes, unless I have problems, No problems so far (knock on wood). The pic shot at 28 days old

hey bro,

you should start your own thread and post lots of pictures.. I hope you are flowering now...

YOUR PLANTS look great!!!

Sure but when they start to flower I am pretty sure you may need to add some mg, so if things go to poop this may be what u need...........

the three sprouts i have, all have two sets (4 total per plant) of leaves approx 2 inches tall and one day i came home and noticed that 2 sets out of four on each plant is pointing upward with very little browning on the tips of some (not all) of the leaves. the stems look ok. still strong. the only thing that i could think of which might have caused this would be that i put a half a tablet of the clear bag of ag nutes in a day or two before. and it was 1.5 weeks into the base nutes too early? i thought they might need more because they didnt seem to do much growing a few days before although they healthy then. i was also thinking too much light? not enough light? im using only factory ag no extra bulbs. this happened three days ago and yesterday i cleaned the resevoir and put in fox farm grow big 1.5 teaspoons and big bloom 1.5 tablespoons (both less than thhe recommended dosage).can someone give me advice please, im a beginner i only know what i read on this thread and a few other sources. i beg you

There's no such thing as "too much" light if you're in the vegetative stage. I'm thinkng the culprit is the AG nutes; too strong, and not the correct formulation for cannabis. It would be helpful if you told us what seed package came with your modules, and how far away the light is from the plants. I highly recommend people stay away from AG nutes if at all possible. As I said, they're crude, and not formulated for cannabis; using the recommended dosage could even kill your plants. Your plants are still underdeveloped and haven't grown a good set of foliage yet. Obviously "not enough light" is not a problem; you can use the AG CFLs for vegetative growth up to about two feet.

Flower when they start to outgrow the system, putting the light on a separate power source with a timer for 12/12. Use side lighting; you'll need it. Back off on the AG nutes, and pick up some respectable nutrients as opposed to the Aerogarden shit. Foxfarm GB and BB are my recommendations for a basic, thorough feeding program, though any good nutrients (such as the BC line) would be adequate. Besides that, have fun, and learn your limits with this system. It performs amazingly well, but it does have certain limitations. Good luck!

Anyone out there have any experience or knowledge about the new AG Pro? I guess it has a few extra features such as 24 hour light cycle, bulb replacement notification warning light, not to forgot fancy brushed aluminum. The part that I am not sure about is the adaptive growth.

"The AeroGarden Pro 100 has stainless steel trim and Adaptive Growth Intelligence that automatically adjust the water, nutrients and lights for each plant type at three specific stages of growth, from germination, to initial growth, to advanced growth. The AeroGarden Pro 100 also includes the Grow Light Replacement Reminder system and the Super Grow 24-hour light cycle.
The Aerogrow AeroGarden Pro 100 introduces New and Improved technology called Adaptive Growth!
The current system regulates nutrients and light to optimize growth for each specific plant type. The AeroGarden Pro-100 takes the optimization one step further with Adaptive Growth, by delivering nutrients and light according to their specific stage of growth.
From germination, to initial growth to advanced growth, the Pro-100 delivers just what the plant needs, just at the right time. As a result, the unit can speed up the growth of leafy greens in your AeroGarden Pro 100.
In addition, since grow lights lose power over time before they actually burn out, it is important to replace your bulbs every 6 months.
The Pro 100 includes a Grow Light Replacement System, to automatically remind you when it is time to replace the lights for continued optimum plant health and growth.
The Pro 100 Super Grow 24 hour light cycle lets the experienced gardener override the built in timer, which is maximized at 17 hours of light, to provide more light. This expands the possibilities for gardeners who may want to plant their owns seeds in conjunction with the Master Gardener Seed Kit."

I am considering buying one but I cant decide to go with the standard or the pro. Also I believe the dimensions are slightly larger with the pro.

I just sent my Aerogarden back for a refund. It worked pretty well for a small system, but I was able to replace it with a homemade system for a fraction of the cost. I just took clones from my one female plant and 3 out of 5 of the clones are doing well in my setup, the other two died. I think I probably would have kept the AG for rooting clones if it had not been so expensive. The small size and constant drip setup seems like it would work really well to root clones, and maybe even veg them for a while before transplanting them, but my plants all doubled in size within a couple of weeks of moving them out of the AG and into my own setup! I am using the General Hydroponics nutrients, but I used the AG nutes for the whole time in the AG (5 weeks) and the first week in my own setup too. I never had any issues with the nutes, but I started with one tablet, and gradually went up to 1.5 tabs every time I changed the water, which was weekly.

I am a complete noob, and basically mechanically retarded, yet I was able to build a system that is already out-preforming my AG, at least on rooted plants.

I'm glad I tried the AG, because I would never have had the initiative to build my own system without it, but it was quickly outgrown.

My advice: If $150 is not a lot of money to you, then go ahead and get the AG, but expect to use it just as a starting point to get into growing. You will quickly find that you need to buy more lights, better nutrients, and eventually a larger system to accomodate more than one plant or so to harvest. I don't have a lot of money, at least not to spend on this particular hobby, so I sent my AG back after the free-trial period, but if you've got the cash, go for it. At the very least you will learn how easy growing can be, and you may be able to keep using the AG as a decent cloner once you grow out of it. This way you can always have a fresh crop of clones to transplant into a larger setup for flowering.

  1. ok i have since changed over to fax farm . big bloom , big grow, tiger bloom...i also have the solubles which i havent used yet (too soon). plants look somewhat healthy i lowered the light on the ag (i took it apart). the leaves have since opened up. but one thing i noticed before i had a chance to switch to fax farm was that all the stems started to split at the base, but its odd they look healthy but seem to be growing at a slow rate...........what i did was wrap very little amounts of plastic wrap over the spit stems. i dont know if they will make it or not. has anyone ever heard of this and is it worth trying to save them or will they die anyway.. these seeds i ordered from nirvana..hindu kush. im gonna send some pics in a few days is it safe to do that.
