Hey CV.
Got a q for you. I noticed you said mix your light between 2700k and 6500k. Is there a scientific reason behind this? And what ratio of yellow / blue do you use?

Like you I tend to stick with feminised seeds and I recently had a thought that may also be of use to you. You know how you get the odd runt in a micro grow? I usually grow them out anyway, but in future I think I will put a humidity dome over them and force them to turn hermie by farcking with the light schedule. This should still give me a bit of bud, but it would also cover my seed requirements for zero extra effort. Just a thought.

hey not to be too critical but it looks like your lights are really far away from your plants, because cfls produce so little heat you can get them as close as an inch away without burning, i think you would see better results if you moved them closer. just a helpful tip, other than that they look dank as hell.

Hi mate, thanks for the comments :-)

Probably like yourself I have read so many CFL grow threads and you get so many different ideas. The biggest influence for me though over the last couple of years has been the thread by 'DrBudGreengenes' the original thread was amazing, 4 fixed CFL's (all 2700K's) a boxfull of clones and seedplants all grown on a constant 12/12 cycle producing solid results! The guys harvesting 2 or 3 plants a week, averaging just between 10 to 20grams each but with dense frosty buds, he just keeps on turning them over, as 3 come out, 3 more go back in etc so he keeps his box full all the time, he also reveges for 3 just weeks then bangs them back into flower again, all his plants go through 3 'cycles' before being 'retired' :-) So hes got a mix of seedplants, reveg and clones running through at all times. I just dont know how he does it but the pics speak for themsleves. Have you seen his thread?

Good idea with the forced hermie. I always grow out any odd seeds I find in my grows, it happens, and never have any trouble with that hermie trait carrying through. Have you found that too?

Re light spectrum I just decided on another growers advice to put in 3 x 6400 'daylight' spirals to sort of balance the spectrum I guess, again some do and others don't!

I'm ordering a few more fems from 'pick & Mix seeds' today :-), I like being able to just buy a couple of each rather than whole packs, they split the packs and don't charge any more for single seeds which I think is pretty good. You always get a portion of the original packaging so you know what you're getting. I'm going to try the good old skunk#1 from Sensi and a couple of White Widows.

***********************

vandewalle, thanks for looking in: the CFL's are clustered a round the main buds about 2" max away, the lower buds are a few inches away. I have 16 CFL's wired in there, some fixed some hanging etc, all are adjustable to where I want them.

I didn't catch the thread you mention but I just did a search and found a few links so I'll have a read later.

I never had a hermie yet and I've been indoor growing since 1981! I must be one lucky barsteward! That's why I'll need to mess with the lighting.
I've seen the picknmix pages and I'm impressed with the range and the convenience. You had good experience with them?

Last Kush I harvested was a reveg and I found just 5 mature seeds in the whole plant from a single lower bud :-)

Had them out in the sun today, theyre loving it :-) Couple of quick pics.

Hi again MCCLAD :-)

I like seeing them out in the sun. The pic below (outdoors again!) shot from above, I think shows the slight difference in maturity of the 2 Kush plants, both at day 77 from germination, 12/12 from seed, obviously same soil conditions etc... but one is slightly advanced and yellowing more....genetics at work.

Also one taken indoors. I HAVE removed a couple of lower larger buds to dry, I sometimes have to do this when stocks look like they could run low! I estimate a good 2 weeks to finish these to my taste :-)

I'll add a close up of some Kush bud I'm smoking if I can do it justice with my camera.
*edit*.. this ones not too bad, Bubba O Kush (Bubba Kush x OG Kush), seeds made by 'Organic Herbalist'.. cheers mate, hes been giving me these seeds free for years now, wont take anything, but comes down for the odd summer bbq with the family :-) I love it.

It's been good up North too these last few days. Sadly my girls are nocturnal :(

I do have a reveg outdoors and she's just starting to take off. I notice that many of the leaves only have single fingers. Is that something you see too?
There's a couple of more mature ones appeared yesterday so it looks like she's on the up now anyway.

That kush looks soooo good :)
Bravo.

Reveges always begin to grow back like that :-) twisty non serated leaf, then 3 bladers then gradually 5, 7 etc..I have found that it takes roughly 5 weeks to get back to small 5 bladers again then theyre ready to go again or you can veg them on further. 2nd yield is always higher, I guess due to maturity with absolutely no loss of quality, at least thats been my experience.

I'm thinking about starting a fresh thread once these are finished, 4 seeds, 2 per pot as usual, 12/12 again BUT I'm thinking about changing method to a sort of hempy style thing where the pots sit in a 2" res of water BUT with a couple of airstones added, maybe in perlite or clay pebbles. What I want to be able to do is to contain the roots in the pots so that I can still take them outdoors on occasion! Anyone got any thoughts on how best to do this?

Anyway, heres something different today, our veggie patch :-) tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, shallots, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, celeriac, rasberries, onions, green beans, spinach, marrow, strawberries & broccolli :-) Coming on nicely again this year and from skills learned growing cannabis!

Thanks CV. Good to know I'm not doing anything wrong on the reveg.

I'm just running a hempy bucket myself to see how they go. I considered an airstone too, but I still need to keep a check on growth in my case, so I'll just run with the small res for now. The only thought I have on taking them outside with the air still pumping is to use the airstone tube connectors available at pet shops to hook up a 5 or 10m extension airline between the pots and the pump. Not sure what air pressure you'd get at the end of 10m though. It might also be possible to add some h2o2 to the res just while they are outside and flush it out when they go back indoors, but I don't know for sure that it wouldn't harm the plants.

I learned all my gardening skills under flouro's too. It's a most profitable way to teach yourself :)

Thanks for the ideas mate :-) hows the hempy going so far? if i have one reservation about the hempy, even though its been around for years, I think since the eighties (?) its not having access to that res for the entire grow! So I kind of thought along the lines of a pot inside a pot, one filled with medium and the other forming the res with the drain hole 2" from bottom etc..at least then I could access that res AND add an airstone. As the original Hempy don't use an airstone at all, I dont think it would hurt to put them outdoors for a few hours so long as the res wasnt getting too warm? The airpump would not need to be on all of the time. What you think?

Better get on with some work, these hot days make me feel lazy :-)

Hey CV

Sounds like a neat idea to have a pot in a pot. It may answer a few of the problems of dwc in a pc case too.
The Hempy experiment is in limbo just now. It seems there's a lull before the storm as the roots make their way to the res at the bottom, so I've seen no growth for 3 days, but the plant is very healthy so I'm expecting great things.
Loving that avatar by the way :)

Good luck with the hempy experiment.

I'm thinking about a bit of an upgrade to my cabinet, it needs tidying up and I plan to improve the fan with a 100mm rvk. I'm gradually getting a clearer picture of what I want to do next.

Today is 11 weeks since germination and I have removed some of the lower buds to dry for supply! I will let the colas finish fully now, both are still pumping out foxtails all over. The smaller clone next to them has 4 weeks to go still and is bulking up nicely, I don't expect much more than 14 -18 g dry from a small clone like this one, but you never know :-)

Threads winding down now...... I hope to harvest end of next week. Few more pics of the whats left! I have removed all lower buds for drying, they seem nice and dense :-) Heres the colas left to finish off.

Theyre suffering a bit now as you can see but still foxtailing away :-) The small clone has about 3 weeks left then its clean out, upgrade slightly and start again with 4 more seeds in 2 pots.

Damn! Gonna miss your bud porn :(

Got any plans to train the new ones?
Cheers v12 :-) I'm going to register on your forum today.

I've run this down so that I can work with an empty cabinet, I want to tidy up the wiring, add a new fan and mylar sheeting (non crinkly!) and clean down well as I am noticing some mites appearing in there. Been free of the damn things for months. I'll order something to eradicate them as my neem oil treatments don't seem to be effective any longer :-(

Heres the little Kush clone, 12/12 from rooting but doing nicely with about 3 weeks to finish.

Thanks for the pic. I needed a fix :)
I'm always a bit paranoid of taking my girls outside just in case they pick up any freeloading bugs. Hope the cleanup goes ok.
I'll see you over there later then :)

Yo CV u got any dry weigh inz yet ? Jus curious 2 no if ya met ya target.
Alright MACLAD :-), well I dont really bother much with weights these days, what I get is what I have to smoke! I'd say from experience I have cut what will be a solid 14g when dry from the lower buds so its down to those two main tops, BUT I'd say I will hit my 1.5 OZ dry from that pot overall, and hopefully another 14g from the smaller clone that has a good way to go yet .

All outside for a good flush through this am, put 4 litres of plain water through the big pot until its running clean through. I'll leave it another week then see how they look.
