I think that the Vortex that Supcool highlights on his video is the same pheno that you and I have. My pheno Red. You get a good idea of what it looks like at day 55 which is when he took that one down. They do some amazing shit in the last week or two. My Ice buds in the final two weeks go from mostly pistols to an explosion of giant calyxs
here's the info from subcool's "dank" book.

My short pheno Vortex finishes relatively quickly, 60-63 days. The two taller phenos take 70 at least.

thanks! i'll just keep an eye on those trichomes. i'm not sure which pheno i have. it's not bushy at all, it's kinda tall and skinny but not nearly as tall as yours and caves.

it's a good looking plant - i love it.

nice SD! a train buds look a little bigger? are they?
thanks. yes, the a-trains buds are bigger. i expected that. the a-train is a bigger yielder and more indica. if i would have vegged her longer and had a bigger light and bigger container i think she'd really have big buds. the TH website says 300-350 p.s.m. that really doesn't mean much to me. is that alot or a little?

:wall: fuck i feel like an idiot.

so like i mentioned before the a-train abruptly started to fade on me. i second guessed myself and gave her a full strength shot of nutes and she burnt.
damn it! i know better!:dunce:
i'm attaching some pics. notice the curled up leaf tips.

fortunately i don't think she's too badly damaged and she's near the end so hopefully she'll recover. i flushed the shit out of her just now. i guess my plan is to just give her clear water until she's done.

i'm sure if there was any good micro-life going on in my soil i just killed it all or flushed it away.

gggrrrrr.......

i'm just baffled about the big a-train!

here's scans of leaves from each plant at about the same level.

pic one is (from bottom to top) a-train1, a-train2, vortex.

pic 2 is the big a-train. notice the spots and fading and curled up tips.

she got yellow fast, i over fed her, and now all her big fan leaves are spotty.

here is pics of the buds.

pic1 is a-train 2
pic2 is the vortex
pic3 is the big a-train
pic4 is a-train 2

pretty obvious that the two a-trains are different phenotypes.

what i am confused about is i have pretty much treated them all the same as far as nutes and container size and veg time... so why did the big a-train fade so fast and get all spotty? so strange.

even though the big a-trains fan leaves are yellow and tips are burnt the buds look real nice and smell great.

the vortex isn't getting any taller. her buds sure look nice!

Getting closer and closer to chop time, huh? Nice!! That A-Train is looking really nice ,man.....I wouldn't sweat the nute burn, I know its hard not to but, but just chalk it up as experiance. Yield dif will be minimal if anything. Have you ever smoked A-Train before...I should look it up and see what it is.

So based on four Vortex phenos that I have....The one in subs video looks just like my pheno Red. The buds are the most similiar to that one. Topping the clones turns them into a little bush and they are the quick veggers compared to the indica dom phenos.

Now if I can just get a pic up, :)

That Vortex is looking like my best pheno. Thick curly pistils and round chunky calyxes. The other two had thinner, straighter pistils.

thanks cave. yes, i'll chalk it up to experience! every time i grow i learn a lot.

yes i smoked some dispensary a-train one time and it was great. knocked me on my ass and i really wanted to grow some.

here's a couple of pix i took with the camcorder tonight.

Hey there Dance looking great, how many days are they at?? My Vortex are at day 44 :)
thanks man! all of yours are looking killer by the way. even your "poor little bitch" (i think that's what you called her) looks good.

i'm at 50 days since i flipped the lights today. the big a-train's pistil's are browning up fast and i'm guessing she'll be around 55 days.

i kinda think the small a-train and the vortex will take longer. i got the 20x magnifier out last night and the trichomes don't look amber to me at all. mostly clear and a few cloudy. is that the method you use to guage when to chop them down?

Thats the method I use too. White pistols are a good sign...means the buds are still hulking up. Should go by the trics though. Smaller and broken tric heads will turn amber first....it's better to go by the larger and healthy trics. I had an Ice pheno that I nicknamed cotton candy as it was fluffy buds and the pistols stayed white even after the trics had turned. Wicked nice, but you just cant keep every pheno. The Ice pheno in That Little Bitch pic is nicknamed Fruity Pebbles cause thats what it smells like :)

just curious what people think about flushing (when growing in soil and keeping things as organic as possible.)

i think the standard wisdom is flush heavily once 2 weeks before harvest.

if i've been using filtered RO water the entire grow is that necessary at all? if there are no signs of over fert and the plant looks good and healthy should i still do it?

i can see flushing when you're doing heavy nutes or have nute burn (like my a-train) or if you're using hard tap water with lots of solids but otherwise i'm a little leery about it. i guess i'm thinking why flush all the good stuff out of the organic soil and screw up the balance when it's working just fine? hope that made sense.
