T-5 lights for just flowering??

Hey guys was wondering I will start a new grow pretty soon and my grow space will be in a attic.....Now I have a 400hps light and im thinking of doing 4 plants max.....my concerns are 2 things the whole IR thing with choppers detecting heat sigs especially since its in an attic and the fact that hps's get very warm.....thats why im thinking of going with a t-5 h.o for flowering since from what i have read emit very low heat and building a small cab for vegging with cfls....what do guys think???:-|

I love the fact that u can adjust the bulbs and have them practically right on top of the plants.....Great journal......now for my other concern growing in the attic in the winter its insulated with R20 but I live in an urban area where here and there people are popped for selling.....I want to use the hps but heat sig and temps is a concern for me.....

T5s Do produce significantly less heat than HPS lights do; also they have an advantage that you can adjust the bulbs from blue for veg, to red, or a mix of red & blue!
I say go for the T5.

Thanks Lounge thats what im leaning to...... with t-5 's how many red flowering bulbs does it take to flower say 4 plants? can you get away with 2 blue and 2 reds? blue for veg and red for flowering? :mrgreen:

a 400 gives off barely a heat signature,the heat lost through my sealing gives off a bigger heat signature then a 400.now if you had 8 1000,s then you would have a heat signature,do you know the cost of running a heat signature helecopter let alone one detecting a 400 watt light,i have a 1500 watt tungsten shop ;light in the attic for when repairs are done if i have leaks are whatever it is there for emergency.

Thanx trapper for the help........How about the ones that carry the handheld ir cameras?? I heard they can detect the heat sigs in the entire house just from standing outside of the property??? or is this something the dea would have for major grow ops....

Well, as you know blue light is best for vegging, and red for flowering. Having said that, think about daylight: In the morning you have more red light, during the day blue light, and at evening back to red.

I would use 4 blue, and 2 red, or go 1/2 & 1/2, this was suggested to me by an associate at our local Progressive Garden growing store.

if your that paranoid,it will be a drag on your life to grow,it aint worth it if your going to be freaked,hand held ir for detecting a 400 watt light,the tungsten house light gos to a 1000.

No not really paranoia just safety first is my motto all its takes is one slip and thats ur ass mister postman...lol.....but seriously im going thru with it and I will post a journal once its all ready to go...just wanted to take some precaution measures thats it and what better way to find out than here.....thanx trapper......

what ever option you choose just make sure your comfortable with your desision,im happy to here that it is caution not paranoia.and if your in a warm climate year around and you need an ac to keep your temps down then today you have many lighting options.ive never had to add anything to cool a room here on the trapline,if anything i need a lost lady trapper to stumble into my shack to heat things up.but then again maybe not,ive been shot at for that before.good luck.

lol.....I hear ya its pretty chilly in my neck of the woods right now too......Thanx for the help and I will deff post up once everything is all said and done........:blsmoke:

Hey there I'm a total noob that had to quickly move inside with not much time or money to plan and prepare... I'm using T5's full spectrum high output and my babies flower beautifully, but I'm dealing with mites n gnats n other probs... lol... Check out my Journal and pics here... They do sell ir reflective material That will help reflect and spread out the light in the grow room and keep you completly off the ir spectrums.
I use a 600 MH/HPS and a 4ft 8 bulb T5 light and a 2ft 6 bulb T5 light in a 8x4 area.
