All charts taken from Steven Levitt in Journal of Economic perspectives vol 18 #1 163-190 (2004).This info I first encountered in Levitts book Freakonomics. In the early 1990s the Murder rate started dropping across the US ,opposed to all projections.Actually all violent and serious crime was dropping at an amazing rate. Explanations for the drop were offered such as increased police strategy, economy and changing population demographics.
