I'm interested in threading with other sunlightshed cool cab owners with the theme of problems, work arounds, fixes and general growing with the cab rather than dont buy it (already own one) or u can build it cheaper (ya if ya wanted to)
hello, got my mini cool cab running two weeks ago, i would like to know how u guys do the water change without hurting the plants! and when you switch to flora bloom in the second week how many teaspoons u gys add? im very new to this, help

I use a drill sifon. It hooks up to a hand drill and has 2 hoses on it, one for in and one for out. Makes it really easy without even having to touch the plants. Just lift the side of the lid up, stick the hose in, turn in on (make you have reverse on, lol) and empty out the res into a large bucket.
As for the bloom fortifier, just one teaspoon will do each feeding.:peace:

the water level adjusts itself with the float valve ...... I use a waterpump from an aquarium store same idea as chiceh only a self contained pump .... I lift the outer edge of the res lid up and hold it there with a stick then pump it all out and refill then I can check the equip and clean the mister

hey beachbum,

how do you adjust the white float thingy in the tub that came w/ da unit? i need to keep the water level below (1-2"s) the netpots.

? do you leave the c02 filter always hooked up, with no power or only use and hook up when smell is an issue?

? (last one...for now..lol) is it possible to dampen the intake fan (i hv mini cab) mine is top right at the back of unit (our cabs likely have the same fans, no?)

i find it rather loud.

cheers :blsmoke:
& thanks!!!!!

this one is for chiceh....(i'll try to pick on everyone...lol)

I read both your journals (awesome btw!) as my alphabet is the same as yours, where did you find that siphon pump, i went looking all over?!?!?

nice tip about covering the water pump!

i bought pvc cement and used it to glue the gromet on the outside res as it was leaking, i also glued one of the drippers as i was gettin leaks where the dripper meets the tubing, we'll see if that works...hoping to get that magical one drip per second. if it works i will glue all the plumbing joints.

whew...lots o shyt to cover......

thanks again guys..and gal for the tips and replies!!!

here's tokin to y'all :joint::hump:

I was wondering bout removing that shelf cause it is usless as a clone area unless u want ur clones in flowering phase or u want to interupt ur plants dark cycle
I am considering either the Cool Cab or Mini-cool Cab, I like the size of the Mini but cloning feature of the Cool Cab. I just took for granted that light from the cloning was sealed when you closed the front doors. As in 18hrs on for the clones above with the light seperated from the ladies flowering below with their 12 hour cycle. Is that not so? Great shots BeachBum.

OMG, I cant even begin to tell you the problems I had with the Coolcab shed.Too many to mention. Im thinking of retiring it after 2 grows and setting up shop in the shed...lol

BM ......I did not need to adjust the level but if I did I would bend the metal rod so the white float goes lower like a toilet float ....... Ive tried a dimmer switch on the same kind of fan on my mother cab and it made just as much noise cause it started humming .... on flower cycle I have the intake fans shut off with the light and just leave the exhaust fan running .... I put my carbon filter on when I noticed a smell n.... no sence waisting it

JGI .... You cant take anything for granted with these things LOL..... at the moment I use the shelf for storage but I do like the extra space if I want to do a taller plant .... plus the bigger res etc
cheers

I got that drill sifon at Canadaian Tire, so in the USA probably Walmart or a hardware type store. It works great.
As you will discover the cool cab has faults. I have modified mine to my liking now. I got a new stronger tub (rubbermaid, same size), made a section in there for the pumps by gluing in a container with slots and the bottom cut off. This fits all the pumps so the roots don't get in the pumps but still allows water in there. On the lid of the new tub I cut only 5 holes spread out. The handles on the lid, I slit on an angle from the end of the handles outwards so I can just lift the handle part of the lid and not the whole lid. This makes it way easier to fill and drain, check levels and such. I am sure there will be more mods as I grow on, lol.:peace:

yeah, I didn't like the look of their hydro set so I went with dirt.

What size containers are those you're using? I'm using 2 gallon round buckets, but there's a lot of wasted space for dirt in the cab. I'd really like something that was the width of the cab (16" maybe).

If I could find a rectangular tub, 16" x 12" or 16"x8" that isn't too tall, then they'd fit perfectly in the cab.

those are 4 gallon rubbermaid buckets I got at home depot. they fit well. only problem is with vertical height so i got do do some bending

Hmmm, 4 gal rubbermaid buckets eh? I'll have to check those out. If they're too tall you could always cut them down a couple of inches.

I figured that in the cool cab you really don't want to spend more than 8-10" on bucket height (esp if you still have the cloning area on top). The 2 gal paint buckets are a perfect height, plus their diameter doesn't narrow or taper down to the base like most plant pots do, but having 4 round buckets in that rectangular area really wastes a lot of root growth space. Thanks, I'll check 'em out.

I am currently building a coolcab type cabinet that you can find a link to in my signature. I was going to use a dwc and "spray" set-up similar to the cool cab with no drip. I see many of you using soil.. it alarms me. Is there something that you dislike about the hydo medium included with the coolcab.

Chiceh - I am very impressed w/ your grows using your modified collcab hydro medium. Why you getting dirty with soil. Or are you just a girl that likes a few different flavors?

TY

I do soil for the outdoor grow season and the hydro is in between.
I had to take out the cloning shelf last time cause I ran out of room to flower.
Word of advice, don't veg them too long, cause you will run out of room for flowering, lol.

Hello I am new here but have been stuing like mad here what a wealth of knowledge here. Anyways I am going to buy the mini cool cab in a couple of weeks and am going to post my first grow and would love some help from everyone. Im a bit nervious I dont know if I should grow random seeds I have or order some smaller strains off the internet. Im not too worried about ordering them to my apt cause they have biger fish to fry in CO I hope im right in thinking that. Well Id love to here what you all think I should do and Ive never grown before so im real nervious about messing up the first grow.
