Damn!. Everything happens 4 a reason an u sound very smart so good things r bound 2 happen soon. We still have a good amount of work n so cal.(4 u an ur wife) I subscribed to c how the experiment between 32 oz. cups vs. 3 gal. containers went. it would b nice 2 c how much space i can really save. Im about 2 harvest a crop of mendo purps and og+blue sattilite where space is limited and was thinkin of changing my pot size. R u still doing that? Would like to hear an c the results. Good luck an blessings with everything else.

Thanks for stopping by. I love socal, lived there till I was 8, moved back when I was 14 and moved back again a dozen or so years after that. I just cant stand the smog and traffic to be honest. Within the next 2 years we will be back on the west coast....wherever my wife needs to go for her career I am game as long as its the west coast :hump:. I would love to move to NoCal or Oregon, my grandfather has a big chunk of property at clear lake in northern cali that he said we can build on but we need to go out and see how far commute etc. it would be.

As for the pot test.....I kinda talk about it in my next post. This won't be a good comparison as the clones stayed in veg 2 weeks too long. They are demanding water at least once a day. I am in the process of putting a new ebb/flow system together and plan on running 3 gal pots on two tables and 2 quart pots on the other 2 tables. This will be a completely controlled test with 4 strains split between the tables....I will start it up within the next 30 days or so, maybe sooner.
I can tell you that I averaged 1/2 to 3/4 oz per 32 oz cup on my last two runs. There is someone on another forum pulling over an ounce per plant in 20 oz containers. Just remember the smaller the container the quicker problems can kill everything.....they also need watering a ton more often....thus the switch for me to ebb/flow.
Let me know if you have any questions

Well, the wife didn't get laid off, just asked to make more sacrifices zzzz.

Anyway, we are deciding what we want to do, go up a floor or stay. I like the idea of 2 a/c units which would mean "my area" is completely sealed off and climate controlled....almost couldn't ask for a better situation. The downside is I hate moving, physically I am not up to it so I would be forced to hire. Obviously there are things that the movers cannot move/see so it just makes things more difficult. We are going to weigh everything over the coming days and make a decision by the end of the week.

The plants had a rough patch the last two days, temps here were in the 90's and I was not prepared with the a/c set up. They are fine now and temps are back in the 70's during lights on. They have eased up on the stretching and are now popping bud sites up everywhere. I did my second and final trim on them as well. For those that were interested in pot comparison.....this will not be a good comparison. With the delay on my bulb replacement and other gear they vegged for too long. They are getting watered everyday as a result. In the picture you can see the one in the 3 gal container is 6 inches taller and the stem diameter is quadruple....the difference wouldn't have been so noticeable if the others would have went straight to flower from rooting. Next batch I will run two tables with 32 oz or 2 quart squares and two tables with 3 gal containers.

Everything in the veg room could have clones taken at this point but I am holding off for two reasons.....1 less thing to worry about if we have to relocate upstairs and I like taking bigger clones when going straight to flower. All photos below are 28 days from seed and 28 days from rooting on the tomahawk...I believe :?

ANYONE THAT HAS GROWN ALASKAN ICE PLEASE TAKE A LOOK:

I have some leaf cupping going on....normally a sign of heat stress but it is 78 in the veg area and none of the other strains are showing any cupping. Is this normal?

cheese_1.jpg

trainwreck_1.jpg

trainwreck_2.jpg

As you can see there are 3 distinct pheno's on the AI.....should be fun to see them till the end. If I had to choose on the others right now it would be cheese 1 and trainwreck 2. Both have sick node spacing and stink if brushed against....again we will see what happens in flower. Everything in the veg room is now up to full strength nutes and drinking up tons.

I have decided on my hydro system and have started acquiring the parts. I decided on ebb/flow due to the flexibility it will offer. I am going to run (4) 36" x 24" x 8" tubs under (3) 600w adding an additional 600w if needed but I think the light spread will be perfect. I am going to run 2 separate reservoirs for the system, 3 table s on the large res and the 4th as flush. I am going with the K.I.S.S. rule.....lucas formula for first three tubs and flush for 4th....nothing fancy.....less to F up. If I relocate up a floor res temps wont be an issue as I can keep the room and the room within the room as cool as needed. If we stay put I am going to turn a chest freezer I have in to a DIY chiller of sorts

I spoke with a lawyer today that specializes in cannabis cases, he is now on retainer. Nothing has happened I just figured I had the opportunity to meet this guy and its better to be prepared before shit hits the fan, not that I expect it to. After understanding how my local officials deal with personal grows I have changed my grow strategy a bit.
Since they go by weight and not plant count I have decided to do SOG (obviously) little to no veg time and perlite as my substrate with a coco mat under the pots. Reason is if they just pull my plants and not remove the medium (which they don't do in most cases) I don't want big blocks of rockwool or anything else being in the mix. With little to no veg time they will be smaller obviously with less stem and foliage. I will experiment with veg times and yield to try and dial it in over time.

Hope this finds everyone well and sorry for the long post...had a bit too much cannabutter on my french bread this evening ....

Hey Shipinit glad to hear that your wife didn't lose her job.
The new ebb & flow setup sounds hot. Looking forward to hearing how it works out.
I have my tents in rooms with window a/c units and it really does help alot with the temp and humidity. I am very close to the Bay.
I too have been thinking about a mouthpiece on retainer. You have reminded me to do that.
Good luck and be well.
Your ladies are looking good.

Thx, I was glad she is still employed.....I would have felt terrible but relieved at the same time....I really need to move.

Last year I ran my grow near a window a/c which I was able to divert air from....worked great. I have 2 12000 btu units sitting here that I have set aside for the grow if needed. Problem is if I stay in my current location I will need to make boxes for them and vent the discharge a good 40 foot or so. On top of that I would need to build a box for the front of the unit as well so the cool air can be pumped in (don't want to cut the tent up although I can sew in a flap for one....see below). Moving a floor up is starting to sound better, easier and cheaper in the long haul for sure.

As for the law chump....now don't get me wrong....I am an equal ego hater, not picking on attorneys.....
I look at it like this.....I can't stand being around them, actually despise them for the most part but boy they are sure nice to know when your in a pinch. I had no intention of putting him on retainer but he has a ton of experience, very unassuming and down to earth as well as politically connected. I figure I pay for insurance for my place, my vehicle, my health.....why not for a rainy day.

I am taking photos of all the junk I am throwing together for the ebb/flow as well as an extension for the sunhut. The material I am going to use for the tent extension arrived today but it will stay boxed until I either start the build or move. I am using a high denier suitcase type material with a black inner lining for the exterior and then will just hang/tape panda to the frame on the inside. I may try to sew the panda to the exterior material and see if it holds....I'm thinking it will but will not last long if you have to take it apart often and the thread needed is not cheap.
I will document it all and post a DIY as I know the new sunhut xxl's are being used by more and more people.

Well, not much going on. Flower room is doing ok....I say ok because the plants are needing water everyday and it is a PITA! I will get photos up of the flower room either tonight or tomorrow....most likely tomorrow.

Here are the younger ones, I took clones off of all of the AI....total of 12-15 not sure. The AI are taking water like crazy compared to the other strains, like twice as much. One of the Trainwreck and Cheese have separated themselves from their sisters....the others will be culled or thrown in two flower if there is space. I will take clones off of both in case they end up being something special but as of right now they have fewer of the attributes I am looking for than their sisters.

Here is the tomahawk, kinda butchered but not bad considering she was 1 month from rooting and she gave up 15 or so good sized cuttings.

tomahawk.jpg

And the cuttings taken on 5/2/09, somewhere between 25 and 30 split between tomahawk and AI. Will get an exact count later, just got tired. They did not go in to my new cloner as I had no additives. Image below
I am hitting the hydro store this week sometime for the following:

    • Roll of panda film for tent extension
    • Misc. hydro fittings
    • (2) 600w digital ballast with air cooled hoods
    • Nutes
    • Blower/Can fan....not sure on what I am getting as of yet

They are real pungent when brushed against and are starting to stink with the fan breeze hitting them.
I hit them with a 400w mh in week 3 and 4 from seed then back to the floro's, seems to help keep them short and bushy.
I threw 2 of the AI's (#1 and #2) in flower a few days ago.....they may make it all the way.....I may yank them. Main reason I threw them in was to see how they stretched so I can judge how long to give these others......they are stretching big time....oh well, may run the AI solo and give them room.

Thanks for stopping by:joint:

Few pics for this evening.....

Left side of flower room, you can see the plant that is in the 3 gal container in the back....it is the same age and towering over the others.....of course she isn't struggling for water like the others are. You can also see the two AI I crammed in the middle, just wanted to see what to expect as far as stretch

Day 17 for everything in the flower room except for the AI, which is 2nd day.

Veg area.....I could take a ton more clones but I am holding off a bit.....need to raise the lights tomorrow.

veg_area.jpg

And a spoon I got for my wife from faded.....I quit smoking cigs 4 months ago on Thur., as a result I only have been vaping and consuming cannabis.....I had to try this thing so first smoke of any kind in 4 months.....my lungs (whats left of them) hate me :?

new_faded_spoon.jpg

Still have not made it to the hydro store.....by the end of the week for sure.....just a pain to arrange a trip there.

Quick update, hit the hydro store and picked up some hygrozyme, 100 ft. roll of panda and some nutes....need to go back next week for the new 600w's and some nutes that they were out of.

New cloner got it's first run tonight....no clones just ran it....good thing I did....pump needs more height of lift.....will hit the aquarium store tomorrow to get a new one as my veg area is looking ragged.

Dude your plants are coming along beautifully.

Funny ... I also went to hydro store and picked up some supplies including my first bottle of hygrozyme. Haven't used it before and mainly bought it for my mothers. Have you used it before???

Take care, grow well and enjoy the weekend.:joint:

Ah, the hydro store.....Im like a kid in a candy store....between the hydro store and home depot I could spend a quarter of a million without even thinking, I always tell my wife it is the equivalent of her going shoe shopping, she still doesn't understand

I have never used hygrozyme, I have been reading a ton about hydro and the problems I may or may not face....decided it would be good to have....in case. I am planning on using it in my aero cloner and may use it for my flower room as well, we shall see. A lot of people swear by this stuff.

Quick update.

Still need to take a bunch of clones as the veg area is overgrown. I still need to pick up a larger pump for the cloner since I added more misters. I also have 2-600w complete setups as well as some other misc gear ready to be picked up this week sometime. I may hold off till picking it up next week as I will have help then and I am still have my eye on some warehouse space....rather not move gear twice.

Dweezle, sorry didn't get to your pm sooner....here is a photo of some of the stuff I am using, most will not be used beyond this grow. There is a lot of other stuff I use that isn't in the photo....I will get photos of my complete setup once I get it all straight and where it will be for a while.

I just give up. I need to clean it up but figured I might as well wait until I take clones.

Flower room (Start of day 23)
They are needing water everyday...no exceptions....sucks but what are ya going to do. Yield looks like it will be nice, still early but should get close to 1 oz of ea.

I pulled all the cuttings I had rooting except 2 of the AI. I just dont have the space for them and still have another 5 weeks or so before they need to go in the flower room....will take some this week for sure.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Just a quick update, been extremely busy as well as sick.....haven't had a spare moment. Will get a proper update this weekend and browse everyone's grows.

Hit the hydro store today and bought 4 bags of FF chunky perlite, nutes, cloning gel and ordered another 600w as well as 100 5" pots. I bought some laundry mat tables (don't know what they are really called...they are built just like flood tables), I will either modify them with a pond liner or just use them as my tables. They will be delivered tomorrow and will make my decision then. Everything else for the ebb/flow system is either here waiting to be put to use or on order so I am set come the end of this grow.

Veg room pre trimming

Veg room post trimming

Result of trimmings:

clones_65.jpg

clones_23.jpg

88 clones, mix of cheese, trainwreck and A.I.

I can say that I will not run fem seeds again, they seem to be more finiky and unforgiving when it comes to cloning. They also take much longer to develop roots. The Alaskan Ice is crap for the most part, I think I may have 2 decent phenos but time will tell. They probably do great outdoors but boy are they leggy. I planted all 10 seeds, 7 distict phenos and I held back 3. I took a ton of photos and will probably start a new journal and point greenhouse seeds to it....if they even care. The seeds are shit, they may have some great phenos but the strain is far from stable and should never been released.

A.I. that is currently in flower (3rd day)

ai_left.jpg

Has decent node spacing and may be a keeper

A.I. that is now shredded bagged and tagged

15 other Tomahawk in 32 oz. cups (Day 35 of flower)

flower_right.jpg

They need to be carefully arraigned at this point as they will not stand up on their own. This issue along with the PITA watering will both be resolved with the hydro set up.

Now here is something crazy, if you check the photo you can see the plants that have lime leaves that are starting to go yellow.....those were all on the right side of the flower room. The others used to be on the left until 2 days ago. The left light has a Sunmaster and the right has a Growbright from HTG. The plants grown under the Growbright are finishing sooner but do not have the weight that the others do...they are tight and dense just not as large as the ones grown under the Sunmaster. After this grow the Growbright will get shelved as a backup and the spare Sunmaster I have goes in.

Close up of Sunmaster plant

closeup.jpg

Will get more photos this weekend. Hope this finds everyone well. :joint:
