I have been using roots soil + liquid nutes for years.

Made up a batch of super soil approx 30 days ago. I am transplanting into 10g pots next week... This will be my first all-organic grow. I am anxious to see the results and will post pictures.

Anyone interested, total cost for a batch is approx $170 however, I think it was already posted.

Another question for SUB, i'm wondering what kind of humic acid you use . I have found many different types ranging from 80-90% soluable and also ranging from 8$ to 55$, and is humate powder the same thing? Is there a link or a website you use that you could send my way! Thanks

I am mistaken and am sorry. It is not smart pots i a thinking of. It is those green passive hydro pots I had issues with and was told are meant for soilless i can't recall their name right now. Ugggg

Sorry! Kicking myself in the behind

ETA It was Easy2Grow I was thinking of, again sorry!!!!!!!!

I might be wrong but that looks like mycelia. It could be from some myco but also could just be saprophytic fungi helping break down some of the organic material, which is good and supposed to be happening.
BTW, I don't recall vermiculite in the recipe.
Yeah, that was my first thought but i don't know for sure. By the way i added vermiculite because it takes on a more natural color where as perlite is too white for me. Stands out. *Outdoor*

Hey there i have a quick question,
The other day made the soil mix at half batch to try it. i put it in the garbage can watered and left it for about 20 days, I now decided to make my second batch. I did the sma ething but didn't add vermiculite as i didn't have any. I decided to leave it in the pool because i didn't have another garbage can and the first batch would be ready in 10 days. I came back about a week later and there was a sort of white mildew growing on it. I just mixed it up and waited the next three days out. On the 30th day i did the old switcheroo, and bagged the first batch, which turned out fine, and put the second batch in the garbage can. About a week passed and i came back to this.

this was already talked about earlier in the forum pages read back a page man ;) but besides that mine did the same thing (not as bad). all I did is when I noticed it early on in the second week I took it out of each garbage can and mixed it all up together and let it sit in the sun for an hour. Ill open it up once a week now and I havent seen it since! its probably not a bad thing anyways but who knows?!

Hey Sub, I was wondering what is the plan when you raise a mother this way? dont the nutrients run out at some point to where you will have to feed her if you keep her alive making clones from her?

Not trying to step on Subs toes but after reading the whole thread and seeing how many times he gets asked the same question I had to chime in - he did answer this already. His exact words were "yes this is the soil web means you did it correctly". I know this whole thread seems like a lot to read (it's taken me a while, having a newborn and working in the garden) but it's amazing knowledge that any grower should give thanks for knowing.

Hello Subcool, and all! Well like many before me, I have a question, that I am sure has been answered, a few times, but I have yet to run across it, so please do forgive me.
What is the best way to raise young seedlings before the Subcool Super Soil? To be more specific: what type of medium to germinate in preparation for super soil(ex. rw, rr, or base soil mix)?
I am extremely new to growing. I plan on using roots organic as my base for the super soil. Past growing has been done with rw and FFOF/LW to prevent burning, with mixed results, so open to the Subcool way of starting seeds.
Thanks to all who may respond.

EDIT:
At last I found a link to Subcool's 'Seed Starting 101'; sorry. However, if there is a revised method, I would enjoy hearing about it. Thanks again!

Welcome!! :weed:

I had great success using his method of RR for my seeds- I germinated 6 TGA Apollo-13 BX seeds this way. I transplanted mine into FFOF & Organic Sunshine Mix #4 and it burned one and I lost one... He recommend planting them in Roots Soil once they get big enough roots., learned my lesson for next time! :-P

i was thinkin of gettin a growlab gl290 tha dimensions are 9'6''x9'6''x6'7''.

OK with all due respect--- Don't get bent here but ---I want to say that I have played in the dirt too and as a matter of fact I have found thus far that pure coco is great as long as you know how to feed. Coco has no nutrients per'say. However, you make all this super soil then you got to feed it more? (how is that super soil? and it sounds too hot or over fed)
I was at the garden place buying phosphates and I had so many choices from Sea Kelp to Green Sand. "you know?" I would like to know why the guy at the hydro store gives me a 0-0-2 pkt and says use this in week 7 and 8
I say Potash or the like of? and why not get some phosphates too? ( I says to myself)
So I grabbed 0-10-10 Now with the right mix I should have flowering handled? No? I think, there are some accolades for the soil yet I don't understand what it is you are pulling off when you got the food you are using I could grow just fine in Styrofoam for that matter.
As for mentioned I do mean this with all do respect. Yes your girls are great but so are mine in Coco Spagnum and perlite as well as the ones in generic potting soil and petemoss and perlite. As long as I feed them they are huge. The soil I do not like is MG as the buffers make it almost cripple the girl as you flush and R.O thru Flowering

I wish people would simply learn to read.
I only add water and I have now said this like a dozen times in this 80 page thread.
Yes Coco rocks if you want to feed and tinker every day.

Thanks MzHerbalistFarmer for your response. I am definately looking forward to a successful rr germination this time. My first run a year back or so ended in a total disaster; I now know it was the heat mat :-( I will be growing MK-Ultra and Chocolate Chunk. I will be planting the beans later on this afternoon, as I have already scuffed them and dropped them in distilled water to pre-soak. Now that I know Subcool is TGA, I hope to pick up a few of his beans in the very near future. Thanks again!
