Stretch???? Wtf

my plants r 5 days old. when they grew torwards the light about an inch at frist, i moved up my lights so the plants would constintly be 3 inch away from light, but 1 thing.... the plants grew to be 3 inch and the one fell over a little , (more like leaned)

does this mean when ever i start my plant i should leave it where it grew to and wait b4 i move the light? does the plant know not to go further or its going to shrivle up and die?

Keep the light as close as possible unless its too hot

thanks, i messed up by raising the light, my one plants like a cm away from a 26 watt cfl because it grew to that so i left it alone
