Stolen Camera Finder

hey if you have a digital camera that got stolen, check out this site. stolencamerafinder.com
you upload an old pic taken with the stolen camera. the site searches the pic coding and finds your cameras 'identity'. then it searches the internet for any pics online with that same code. obviously it only works if the person uses it to upload pics on facebook or something, but its worth a shot! oh and the person it finds could be the guy who bought it from the thief, so dont just go beating people up

Cool, but scary on a site like this. I imagine that could be used for finding people's info when they post pics.

Interesting....... is there something similar for phones?

they can already do that with google, but it searches for the image itself, not the camera id

I can also lock my phone and send messages to it from my computer and make it ring so i can find it. So if i got to my computer quick enough i could lock my phone then they wouldnt be able to turn it off

With the link you posted it allows me to post someone else's photo as long as they didn't strip the data and it will take me to more places they've posted with that camera, correct?

If so, then it could take me to someones facebook page revealing who they really are.

From the stolencamera.com website:

Some websites modify or remove the EXIF data when photos are uploaded which means stolencamerafinder is unable to search these sites. Examples are Facebook and MySpace. We hope in future that Facebook will retain this data so that photos can also be indexed.
So no you couldn't use it to find someones face book. All facebook and myspace photos have been stripped of a serial number. So keep posting that bud porn.

If the person that stole the camera wanted to, he/she could strip the Metadata also. There's tons of free programs that allow you to do so.
